  2.         Backup Version 1.3 Information

  4. 1. Introduction
  5.  
  6.     Backup is a board game for four players (three of whom may be 
  7. computer players). The object is for all four of your pieces to go from 
  8. your start box to your home box without being "bumped" off by the other 
  9. players. The first player to accomplish this wins the game.

  11. 2. Installation
  12.  
  13.     Installing Backup from the .ZIP file that this README.TXT file 
  14. came from is extremely simple. (After it has been unzipped).
  15.  
  16.         1. Start Microsoft Windows.
  17.  
  18.         2. From the File menu in Program Manager, select New.
  19.  
  20.         3. Select Program Item and click OK.
  21.  
  22.         4. Under Description put: Backup.
  23.  
  24.         5. Under Command line put the directory where the Backup 
  25. files are, followed by backup.exe.
  26.             Ex: c:\apl\comm\backup.exe
  27.  
  28.         6. Under Working Directory put the directory where the
  29. Backup files are and click OK.
  30.             Ex: c:\apl\comm

  34.     This is a complete file list.

  36.         1. BACKUP.EXE - the main program file.
  37.  
  38.         2. BACKUP.HLP - the on-line help file.
  39.  
  40.         3. DIE.WAV - one of two sound files.
  41.  
  42.         4. UHOH.WAV - the other sound file.
  43.  
  44.         5. README.TXT - this file.

  46. 4. Changes from previous versions
  47.  
  48.     The changes in version 1.3 improve the games general performance. 
  49. Scaled boards are drawn much faster and other minor changes have been made 
  50. to facilitate multi-tasking.

  52. 6. Playing the game
  53.  
  54.     The first step is to use the Action-Setup menu command to set up 
  55. the game. The next step is the use the Game-New menu command to begin a 
  56. new game. The final step is to use the Action-Roll die menu command to 
  57. begin the turn. The rest of the rules are described in the on-line help 
  58. or the printed manual.
