Adventures and Adventurers¢--------------------------¢¢ Adventures eh? I just can't figure¢them out. I mean what makes people like¢me spend hour upon hour, sat bleary¢eyed in front of a t.v. screen, trying¢to figure out some way to sneak past¢a fiery dragon, or find a way to rescue¢the bearded fairy from the clutches of¢the diabolical gnome?¢ Could it possibly be some terrible¢genetic flaw handed down to us from our¢parents? Or maybe a contagious disease¢picked up from a greasy cafe? Or could¢it be just plain old stubborness?¢ (Myself, I think it's probably the¢second one, but then the cafes near¢where I live always have been a bit¢suspect)¢ I suppose though (taking myself as an¢example), that most adventurers just¢love the challenge of exploring a¢strange new world, where they can pit¢their minds against the cunning of¢which ever devious fiend wrote the¢adventure.¢ Even in the field of adventure the¢possabilities are endless. There is of¢course science fiction, or the ever¢popular fantasy scenario and there is¢even the murder mystery game, each type¢doing it's very best to stump us (and¢often succeeding).¢ Of course there are also many sorts¢of game layout. The very basic and not¢very descriptive Mysterious Adventure¢and Scott Adams type. Which tend to be¢very quick, single loading games (but¢are by no means easy) and a lot of¢people do favour this kind. Personally¢I prefer the Mysterious Adventures and¢would say 'The Golden Baton' was the¢best game of this category.¢ Then of course there is the ever¢popular Infocom type and their inferior¢rivals (sorry guys) Magnetic Scrolls.¢This class of game loads continously¢from disk and though tend to be very¢slow are also very descriptive and¢involved, their good points though far¢outweigh their bad points and these¢games are superb. My favourites in this¢category has to be the 'Enchanter'¢series which is just wonderful to play!¢ Last and by no means least we have¢the masters of adventure Level 9 who in¢my mind made some of the most excellent¢adventures ever written. No messing¢about loading from disk here, good¢descriptive text and very involved¢plots too. Just look at 'Lancelot' is¢there a better adventure than this?¢Need I say more about Level 9! Need I¢say more about anything? No I think I¢have waffled on for too long.¢¢Alias Maximus.¢
