  4. This text file contains a full description of Blades of Exile 
  5. and some troubleshooting information. If you have trouble installing 
  6. or playing Blades of Exile, look below.

  8. DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME:

  10. Blades of Exile is an exciting role-playing system for Windows 
  11. 3.1/95. Featuring the award-winning interface of Exile III, it 
  12. includes not only 3 full-length adventures, but the ability to 
  13. design your own adventures and play the adventures of others. 
  14. Many hours of role-playing fun! It's from Spiderweb Software, 
  15. Inc. $30 shareware. Requires 256 colors, Windows 3.1/95.

  22. TROUBLESHOOTING:

  24. The information below should solve many of your problems installing
  25. or running Blades of Exile...
  26.  
  27. Question:  Blades of Exile refuses to install!
  28. Answer: First, make sure you have ten megabytes of free space on the 
  29. drive you're trying to install to (the game takes up 7, but the 
  30. installer needs a little extra space). Then reboot, make sure no other 
  31. programs are running, and try installing Blades of Exile again. If this 
  32. doesn't work, your download may be corrupted. Try redownloading.

  34. Question: I can't figure out how to do anything in the first
  35. scenario.
  36. Answer: Run the game and hit F1 for help. The online help contains
  37. a hint book for the first scenario.

  39. Question:  Blades of Exile crashes sometimes for no reason!
  40. Answer: Several steps to try, which will eliminate many problems.
  41. 1. Select Preferences from the File menu. Select Fewer Sounds. If 
  42. this doesn't help, turn off sounds. This will fix most problems.
  43. 2. Run Blades of Exile with no other programs running.
  44. 3. Make sure you have at least 4 or 5 megabytes of free RAM.
  45. 4. Sometimes files become corrupted, either during play or during
  46. download. For really weird problems, it sometimes helps to 
  47. redownload the entire game.

  49. Question:  I get crashes when targeting a spell or missile, and nothing 
  50. helps!
  51. Answer: Select Preferences from the File menu. Select No Targeting
  52. Line.

  54. Question:  The Blades of Exile screen is really tiny!
  55. Answer: Go into Windows preferences, and select a monitor mode with a 
  56. different resolution. 640x480 is recommended. (On windows 95, right 
  57. click on the desktop, select Properties, and click on the settings
  58. tab.)

  60. Question: The Blades of Exile screen colors are all bizarre!
  61. Answer:  You need to play Blades of Exile in 256 color mode. Run Blades of Exile, 
  62. hit F1 (for help), and read the section on troubleshooting to find 
  63. out how to get 256 colors on your screen.

  65. Question:  OK. I installed the game. It runs fine. It looks fine. But I
  66. keep starving, if the monsters don't kill me first, and I don't have any 
  67. gold!
  68. Answer:  Read the Hints For Getting Started section near the end of the 
  69. manual (hit F1 to get the manual).

  71. Question: Sometimes, when I switch to another window and
  72. switch back to Blades of Exile, the colors are all strange.
  73. Answer: One of the other programs you're running is messing with Blades of Exile's color management. Quit everything else you're using (including the
  74. fancy front-end programs some computers come with) and try running Blades again.
