This product will work on most P.C. compatible computers running Windows 3.1 or later with a minimum of 8MB of RAM.
2. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE CLOSED ANY APPLICATIONS YOU MAY BE RUNNING BEFORE CARRYING OUT THE INSTALLATION.
For general instructions on how to install applications, please consult your Windows manual.
Run INSTALL.EXE (may only be shown as INSTALL) in the root directory of the CD and follow the on-screen prompts. Necessary files are copied to your hard drive. Note that some files may already be present on your hard drive and may also be protected. If a message warning you of this appears, click on IGNORE.
Once installed, to run the program click on the KYS icon in the usual way.
Occasionally, on Windows 95, a conflict with a video card may prevent the installation from working. To cure this, simply click on the right-hand mouse button while the pointer is on the desktop. Select "properties" and change the display type to "standard super VGA" from the "settings" menu, making a note of your current settings. Once Know Your Stuff has been installed, you can restore the old settings.
3. UPGRADING KNOW YOUR STUFF
When you install a new title, the installation program will automatically detect if you have an older version of the Know Your Stuff program engine and the newer version of the engine will be installed in place of the old one.
Your existing (i.e. older version) titles will run with the new version of the Know Your Stuff program engine.
You can find out about the new features by reading the help files within the program.
4. INSTALLING MORE TITLES
When installing additional titles the installation program will detect which version of the Know Your Stuff program engine is already installed and will just copy files specific to the new title(s), if an upgrade is not necessary (see above).
5. UNINSTALLING KNOW YOUR STUFF
a. Windows 95
To uninstall Know Your Stuff double click on the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel and select Know Your Stuff from the given list of programs. You MUST NOT just delete the KYS directory from your hard drive.
Because user files and other data are saved in the installation directory when you run Know Your Stuff after installation, the uninstaller is unable to remove these. If you want to remove these files just delete the installation directory after the uninstall process has completed. (The installation directory is the directory into which Know Your Stuff was installed.) The default installation directory is PROGRAM FILES\KYS.
b. Windows 3.1
Windows 3.1 does not provide an uninstall facility. However, you can carry out a partial uninstallation by deleting the Know Your Stuff program group and also the installation directory. (The installation directory is the directory into which Know Your Stuff was installed.) The default installation directory is KYS. Please refer to your Windows 3.1 manual for more details.
6. TAKING A BREAK IN A TEST
You may take as many breaks as you like during a test. To continue a test, simply select Test your stuff from the menu. The program will detect that you are part way through a test and resume from the point where you left off.
7. VIDEO SEQUENCES (AVI FILES)
Windows 95 has a built-in AVI player for video.
In Windows 3.1 if the videos do not run correctly, you will need to install Video for Windows. Double click on Vfwsetup.exe in the VfW directory, which is located in the Sysdir of the Know Your Stuff CD.
