OCR: THE BOOM IN ADVERTIS !! in 1995 was British Telecom's 'good to talk' series starring close Bob Hoskins. It cost £44.3million. Advertising is an art form in its own right. It has used artist Graham Sutherland for illustrations and poet John Betjeman as a copy-writer. Now it uses names such as Oscar-winning animator Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit, and has been the launching pad for Hollywood careers - for example, Ridley Scott went from directing Hovis commercials to Alien. Everyone has favourites. HP added spice to nursery rhymes; Bovril's plaintive cows generated massive sympathy.
