  1. WordExpress Read Me File

  3. This file explains the Shareware concept, gives details on installing 
  4. WordExpress, and provides information regarding technical support 
  5. should you run into any problems.

  7. Definition of Shareware
  8.  
  9. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying 
  10. it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are 
  11. expected to register (which often also carries with it a registration 
  12. fee, as is the case with WordExpress). 
  13.  
  14. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the 
  15. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as 
  16. stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just 
  17. like commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. 
  18. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main 
  19. difference is in the method of distribution. The author specifically 
  20. grants the right to copy and distribute the Shareware version of the 
  21. software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For 
  22. example, some authors require written permission before a commercial 
  23. disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  25. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should 
  26. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's 
  27. commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs 
  28. easier, because you can try before you buy.  And because the overhead 
  29. is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back 
  30. guarantee -- if you don't like the product, you don't pay for it.

  33. Installing WordExpress
  34.  
  35. Before you can use WordExpress you have to run the setup program from 
  36. Windows so it will work properly on your computer.  Setup properly 
  37. extracts the program files from the distribution set, and builds a 
  38. working copy on your computer.

  40.     1.  Start Windows.
  41.     
  42.     2.  If you are installing from a floppy disk, place the WordExpress 
  43.         Setup Disk in the Floppy Drive.  Otherwise, note the name of the
  44.         temporary directory where the setup files are located.

  46.     3.  Select "File" from the Program Manager main menu, then select 
  47.         "Run" from the File Menu.

  49.     4.  If you are installing from a floppy disk, enter the command
  50.         A:\SETUP or B:\SETUP, depending on which drive you are 
  51.         installing from.  Otherwise, Enter the full path of the 
  52.         temporary directory plus the word setup (e.g. C:\TMP\SETUP).

  54.     5.  WordExpress uses the drive where it finds Windows and the 
  55.         WPWIN as default location for WordExpress to reside.  If you
  56.         wish to change this, simply type in the drive and directory
  57.         to which you wish to install.

  59.     6.  WordExpress then transfers all necessary files to the target
  60.         location.  You will see the status displayed on the screen as
  61.         the installation proceeds.

  63.     7.  Once the files have all been transferred, you will be asked to
  64.         which Program Manager group WordExpress should be added.  The
  65.         default is "MicroVision Applications".  If you wish to change 
  66.         this, select a different group from the drop down list, or type
  67.         a new group into the edit box.

  69.     8.  The setup is now complete, and you can simply double click on the 
  70.         WordExpress icon in the Program Manager to start WordExpress.

  72.     9.  Once you have started WordExpress, we encourage you to read the 
  73.         README.WD1 file by selecting File/Open.  This file gives 
  74.         important information helpful in getting you up and running in
  75.         WordExpress.

  81. which explains WordExpress, and give tips on the best ways to make 
  82. WordExpress work for you.

  86. anywhere in the program to access help.
