- DressMeUp is distributed as shareware on an "I trust you" basis and is not in
- any form to be considered public domain or free. Considerable effort went
- into creating the program and I am retaining full protection under the
- copyright laws. However, I also want you to be able to share my games with
- your friends. So, please feel free to hand on as many copies as you would
- like, as long as you include the original files.
-
- If you are going to use DressMeUp for your personal enjoyment, whether you got
- it from a distributor or a friend, please mail a check or money order to me at
- the above address. The registration fee for DressMeUp is $25. Extra outfits
- are available at $5 a set. I depend on your registering to continue devoting
- full time to making fun to use programs that don't require you to adapt to the
- program. I'd also like your comments and suggestions. In exchange, I'll add
- your name to the list of those eligible for updates, contests, and 24-hour
- technical support. If you wish, you may use the registration form by typing
- PRINT DRESSUP.REG at the DOS prompt.
-
- DressMeUp is designed for full color with high resolution EGA or VGA graphics
- and will run on most IBM PC's and work alikes. The built in mouse support
- will work automatically with almost any mouse. There is a provision for
- disabling the sounds if you prefer the game to dress the animals quietly. If
- you have any problems, let me know.
-
-
- GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
-
- DressMeUp is an imaginative paper doll game with a cute collection of animals
- to dress up. A girl and a boy may be picked from any of the four different
- animals on the shelf to play with. There are blouses, skirts, slacks, hose,
- purses, jackets, shoes, hats, coats, shirts, sweaters, pants, and socks hidden
- behind the cabinet doors to choose from. DressMeUp comes with two complete
- outfits for the girl and boy animals and eight more outfits can be added to
- their wardrobes. Provisions are available to replace any of the items in any
- of the ten outfits with new items of clothing to provide a constant variety.
-
- In addition to all of the different outfits, a Water Color box will appear on
- the screen and let you paint the clothes or the animals themselves. The paint
- box includes polka dots, stripes, and a wild plaid.
-
- Note: Sometimes you will need to be a little patient. For example; taking
- clothes off when an animal is fully dressed requires each item of
- clothing be reloaded from the disk and redrawn. As compact as the
- clothing files are, it would require 560KB for all 140 of the possible
- articles of clothes to be in memory simultaneously which far exceeds
- the 512KB the program is designed to run in.
-
- Please ask for a catalog of the currently available outfits when you register.
-
-
- DISABLING THE SOUND:
-
- If you wish use DressMeUp without the sound effects, add the word "QUIET" to
- the command line. It should look something line: C> DRESSUP QUIET. You will
- always have the option of turning the sound ON or OFF at the opening screen.
-
-
- GETTING OUT ANIMALS TO DRESS:
-
- To select an animal, use the cursor keys or a mouse to point the arrow at the
- desired boy or girl animal on the shelf. Hold down a <Ctrl> key while using
- the cursor keys to make the cursor move in bigger steps. The corner keys on
- the number keypad allow diagonal movement. When the arrow is pointing at the
- right animal, press the <G> key for "<G>et out" or use the right mouse button.
-
-
- PUTTING ANIMALS AWAY:
-
- To put an animal away, move the arrow to its place on the shelf and press the
- <P> key for "<P>ut away" or press the right mouse button again. Any clothes
- the animal is wearing will be put away at the same time.
-
-
- TRYING CLOTHES ON:
-
- To dress the animals you must first open the cabinet for the kind of clothes
- you want. Just like in a real bedroom, you'll have to remember which cabinet
- or drawer to look in. The cabinet on the left is for the girl. The cabinet
- on the right is the boy's. The HATS cupboard is shared between the boy and
- girl animals and is numbered differently. The five hats on the left side of
- the cabinet are for the girl and the five on the right are the boy's.
-
- Move the arrow to a cupboard door or a drawer and press the <O> key for
- "<O>pen door" or press the left mouse button. When the doors and drawers open
- you can read the title for the clothing.
-
- Point the arrow at the outfit color you want. The colors in each closet do
- not indicate the color of the clothes. Each wardrobe outfit, one through ten,
- is assigned a color for identification. The first outfit, on the left, uses
- blue. The second outfit uses green, and so on. Only the BLUE and GREEN
- outfits are furnished with DressMeUp. Additional outfits may be ordered from
- ShareGames.
-
- When the arrow is pointing to the right color, press the <G> key for "<G>et
- out" or press the right mouse button. If the arrow is pointing at a black
- area, the program will select one of the available items at random.
-
- You must close the cabinet door, by pressing <C> for "<C>lose door", before
- you can open another door or drawer. The left mouse button alternately opens
- and closes the doors.
-
- Note: If they are put on out of sequence, and some articles of clothing
- because of their outline and base color, may not work on top of other
- clothes. Some of the hats will not look right on the dragons because
- their heads are different.
-
-
- PUTTING CLOTHES AWAY:
-
- Use the same procedures above to open the appropriate door or drawer and press
- the <P> key for "<P>ut away". The right mouse button alternately gets out and
- puts away clothes. It does not matter which outfit the arrow is pointing to
- when putting clothes away. The arrow will disappear and you will hear a beep
- for each article of clothing while the item is being removed.
-
- Note: Whenever an article is removed, the girl's or boy's body and clothing
- which has been painted will return to its original color.
-
-
- BEING AN ARTIST:
-
- When you select "Be an <A>rtist" by pressing the <A> key, a Water Color box
- will appear on the right side of the screen with a cursor shaped like a paint
- brush. Select the color you wish to paint with by positioning the tip of the
- Paint Brush on the color. You can use the colors in the paint box or anywhere
- on the screen. Press the <G> key for <G>et color or click the right mouse
- button. When you select a color, the paint box tray will change to match it.
-
- By positioning the little Paint Brush, you can paint any of the clothes or the
- animals themselves. Painting, by pressing the <P>aint key or the left mouse
- button, requires a little care. If the area to be painted is not completely
- outlined in the same color, a much larger area may acquire the new color. In
- worst cases, it can be the entire screen. That's what <W>hoops is for.
-
- Occasionally when intending to paint you may press the right mouse button
- instead of the left. When this happens, instead of painting, the color the
- brush is pointing to is selected. Just select the color you want again with
- the right mouse button and use the left button to paint.
-
- The program tries to establish if it's safe to paint by checking upward for
- the first color change and then checking the other three directions for the
- same outline color. It also protects the outline by making sure the paint
- color does not match. If the outline color above the Paint Brush is different
- than the paint color and the outline does not have any gaps in it, you can
- color any area. If the worst happens! Press the <W> key for <W>hoops to undo
- the last color used.
-
- For the best results, paint the articles of clothing before adding other items
- on top of them. For example, paint the shirt before putting on pants. You
- should then paint the pants before adding a coat or sweater.
-
- Press <Esc> or the <F> key for <F>inished to put the paint box away.
-
-
- EXITING THE PROGRAM:
-
- You can exit the program, except when painting, by pressing the <Esc> key.
-
-
- INSTALLATION:
-
- You may copy the DressMeUp files into any directory on hard disk or another
- floppy. The only requirement is that all of the files associated with the
- program, except for its BAT file, must be in the same directory. The batch
- file DINSTALL.BAT will automatically copy the files on the desired drive.
-
- If you have ordered additional wardrobe disks for DressMeUp, copy the clothing
- files into DressMeUp's directory. A batch file, which you can adapt for your
- system, is provided with each Clothing Set. Please keep a backup copy of the
- wardrobe files. When DressMeUp loads the new files, they will be incorporated
- into the consolidated clothing files. DressMeUp will then delete the extra
- files from its directory. It is not necessary to copy the clothing files to
- the DressMeUp directory again unless you are adding or changing Clothing Sets.
-
- Note: You will notice some delay the first time you put clothes on the
- animals while DressMeUp builds the main clothing files. Thereafter
- the clothes will appear quicker.
-
- To change or add items to the main clothing files, copy the files for the
- articles to be added or replaced into DressMeUp's directory. The next time
- the door is opened, DressMeUp will automatically incorporate the new files.
