  2. The ASOUND.CVL file contained in this .zip file supercedes the file of the
  3. same name contained on the Civilization distribution disks. Just copy it
  4. into your Civ directory (you may want to rename the old file first).

  6. The new file only fixes one problem: owners of newer YM262-based (4-op)
  7. sound cards (Pro Audio Spectrum Plus/16 and new Sound Blaster Pros) have
  8. only been hearing one channel of sound, sometimes with odd results.

  10. Civilization was designed before these cards became available. Hardware
  11. incompatibilities between the new and old boards prevented the old drivers
  12. from working correctly on the new boards. When the new driver detects a new
  13. card, and causes the music to be played back in mono, bypassing the stereo
  14. incompatibilities.
