  196. Many PC parts (sometimes the USB
  197. controller itself) are generating
  198. electromagnetic interference (EMI)
  199. which travels through the USB cable
  200. into your USB Audio device (HardSID
  201. 4U in this case). Even if you use a
  202. cable with built-in EMI suppression
  203. some of the noise will work its way
  204. through to your audio device. So, if
  205. any part in your PC isn't properly
  206. electromagnetically shielded, the
  207. EMI noise will be audible when low
  208. level audio is played. EMI noise can
  209. not be perfectly removed by any
  210. suppression method except by
  211. expensive physical separation of
  212. circuits connected to the PC from
  213. the audio circuits.

  215. Suppressed EMI noise is still
  216. perfectly acceptable for hobby
  217. usage, but if you're planning to
  218. record your work/art in studio
  219. quality, you should consider going
  220. for the HardSID 4U Studio Edition,
  221. since it physically separates your
  222. audio circuits from the ones
  223. connected to your PC. We're using
  224. expensive technologies to replace
  225. direct electrical contacts between
  226. the PC driven circuits and the audio
  227. circuits.
