Howard Rapson was born in Toronto, Ontario. He became an expert in pulp and paper chemistry (manufacture and use of ClO2, purification of wood pulp and enhancement of cellulose). He holds 33 patents in 45 countries. He has received numerous awards from the pulp and paper industries of several countries, as well as the Eadie Medal (Roy. Soc. Can.) and the Killam Memorial Prize (Canada Council).
