  8. <general>Communication Reserve Signals Officers (Sigs Field) perform a wide range of tasks necessary for the provision of command support capability for the Army and the Canadian Forces (CF). This includes provision of command support to operational formations and units and to the command of units with specialized command, control, computers and communications functions. In general, the Signals Officer plans and manages communications systems for units and headquarters deployed domestically and in international operations around the world. The Signals Officer can also be involved in the formulation of policy, and in the planning, design and acquisition of communications systems for the entire Department of National Defence (DND). Signals Officers are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the majority of tactical and strategic communications and electronics systems employed by the Canadian Forces (excluding systems in aircraft and ships).</general>
