<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">CTWord is a crossword
solving program for the PocketPC. CTWord supports the popular "Across
Lite" format for cross word puzzles. CTWord is designed to take full
advantage of the minimal screen are on the Pocket PC.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The main CTWord window
consists of three areas. The topmost area is where the puzzle is
displayed. The middle area is where clues are displayed. The bottom
area is a mini-keyboard for entering letters into a square.</p>
<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"> </p>
<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The puzzle window
displays a puzzle. If the puzzle is too large to fit in the puzzle window,
scrollbars will be present to allow different areas of the puzzle to be visible.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The clue window displays
the clue for the currently selected word. The clue is prefixed with the
current number of the word selected, and an 'A' for across or 'D' for
down. If the clue is too large for the
clue window, the clue window can be double tapped to display the entire clue in
a popup window.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The keyboard window is a
small keyboard for entering letters into the puzzle. If a different method
for entering characters is preferred, the keyboard window may be hidden.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="LoadPuzzle"></a>Load A Puzzle</p>

using the "Load Puzzle..." menu item under the File menu. A
dialog box is displayed to allow a puzzle file (*.puz) to be selected.
The puzzle file is loaded and the puzzle if displayed in the puzzle
window. If you need to find puzzles file, see the section Finding
Puzzles at the end of this document..</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="DisplayPuzzleInfo"></a>Display The Puzzle
Information</p>

Puzzle..." menu item under the File menu will display the information
about the puzzle. This includes the puzzle name, author, and copyright
notice.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="SwitchMenus"></a>Switch Between Full
Menus and Small Menus</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">If the Small Menu
(File menu only) is being displayed, the top most menu item will be "Full
Menus". Selecting this menu item will display the full menus for
the program. If the Full Menus are being displayed, the top most menu
item of the "File" menu will be Small Menu.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="SelectWord"></a>Select A Word</p>
<blockquote>
<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">Tapping on a square in
the selects the word that contains that square. If the previously select
word was horizontal, the new word selected will also be horizontal. If
the previously selected word was vertical, the new word selected will also be
vertical. To change the direction of the selected word, tap twice on a
square in the word to be selected.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="DisplayClue"></a>Display A Clue That Is
Too Large For The Clue Window</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">To see a clue that is
too large for the clue window, tap the clue window twice. The entire
clue will be displayed in a popup window. Tap the popup window once to
make it disappear.</p>
</blockquote>
<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="EnterLetter"></a>Enter A Letter</p>
<blockquote>
<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">Tapping on the
keyboard at the bottom of the window will enter a letter into the puzzle at
the current square. The current square will then move to the next
unoccupied square in the current word.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="Clear"></a>Clear A Letter, Word, or
The Puzzle</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The large menus
contain a menu named "Solve". This menu contains the menu
items "Clear Letter", "Clear Word", and "Clear
Puzzle" which clear the current letter, word, or puzzle respectively.</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="Check"></a>Check A Letter, Word, or
The Puzzle</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The large menus
contain a menu named "Solve". This menu contains the menu
items "Check Letter", "Check Word", and "Check
Puzzle" which check the current letter, word, or puzzle
respectively. If a letter in a square is incorrect, the letter will be
displayed in the error color (default to red).</p>

Word, or The Puzzle</p>

contain a menu named "Solve". This menu contains the menu
items "Show Letter", "Show Word", and "Show
Puzzle" which show the current letter, word, or puzzle
respectively. The squares given by the selected command will contain the
letters for those squares.</p>

A Partially Completed Puzzle</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">Select the
"Save Solution" or "Save Solution As..." menu item under
the "File" menu to save a partially completed puzzle. The
"Save Solutions" menu item will save the solution into the file
last used to save the solution or load the solution. If the solution
has not been saved, "Save Solution" and "Save Solution
As..." will behave identically. In this case a dialog box will be
displayed to allow a filename to be entered. The partial solution will
be saved in the file given by the filename entered.</p>

A Saved Puzzle</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">Select the "Load
Solution" menu item under the "File" menu to load a partially
completed puzzle. A dialog box will be displayed to allow a solution
file to be selected. If the file selected does not match the currently
loaded puzzle, the solution is not loaded and an error message is displayed.</p>

the General Options Dialog Box</p>

selecting the "General..." menu item under the "Options"

Letters As They Are Entered</p>

Mode" settings. This will cause all letters to be checked for
correctness when they are entered.</p>

The Numbers In The Puzzle Squares</p>

checkbox in the Display section to display numbers in the puzzle squares.</p>

Window checkbox in the Display section to hide the letter entry input

Or Decrease The Size Of The Clue Window</p>

<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The clue window comes
in two sizes. The small size is one line in height, and the large size
is three lines in height. Select the clue window size by selecting
either the large or small radio button under the Clue Window Size settings.</p>
</blockquote>
<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0"><a name="ChangeSquareSize"></a>Change
The Size Of a Puzzle Square</p>
<blockquote>
<p align="left" style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0">The puzzle square size
can be changed using the Square Size entry in the General Options dialog
box. If the square size is changed, the font size may need to be changed
as well to match. The section on changing the
font to learn how to do this.</p>

The Font Used In The Puzzle</p>

displayed by selecting the full menus and selecting
the "Font..." menu item under the "Options" menu. The
dialog box is shown below.</p>

select the font name, and size for the letters or numbers in the puzzle.
Hit apply and the new font will be used.</p>

The Colors Used In The Puzzle</p>

displayed by selecting the full menus and selecting
the "Font..." menu item under the "Options" menu. The
dialog box is shown below.</p>

color used by the program, use the spin controls at the top just to the right
of the text reading Foreground to select the item type. The RGB controls
below this can then be used to adjust the color. Repeat this for each of
the items you wish to have a different color.</p>
