README file for Spaced-Out Invaders - by PLBM Games
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
File Updated: December 15, 1997
System Requirements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This program requires an IBM PC or compatible with at least VGA.
In general, faster systems will run the program more efficiently.
Sound Blaster Notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This program contains routines to play digital sound on a Sound
Blaster or compatible card. However, this program does NOT
contain autodetection routines. This program relies upon the
BLASTER= variable being set appropriately in your environment.
If the BLASTER= variable is set incorrectly, the program may
crash. If the BLASTER= variable is absent the program will
NOT attempt to use Sound Blaster sound.
Additionally you will need to have free EMS memory to hear
all digital sounds (they're too big to fit in conventional
memory). The sounds deemed "most important" to game play
will be loaded into conventional memory on a first-come, first-
served basis. To hear ALL sounds you will need enough EMS
free to fit the file KSISFX.DBO. Check free EMS with the
MEM command under DOS.
Key Controls:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Left/Right cursor (or [K]/[L] keys) (or [S]/[D] keys) - Move Left/Right
Up cursor (or Space key) (or [A] key)- Fire laser
Ctrl - Speed up your horizontal movement (sorta cheating, but it's cool)
Joystick Control:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When joystick control is enabled (press [J] to toggle), the
joystick buttons function as follows:
Button 1 - Fire
Button 2 - Speed up horizontal motion
Additional Keys:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[P] - Pause game
[J] - Toggle Joystick control on/off
[Ctrl-J] - Calibrate Joystick (follow calibration instructions)
[F1] - Review this file (HELP)
[F2] - Display high score chart
[F3] - Options (only from main menu screen)
[F5] - Toggle sound on/off
[F7] - Toggle to black and white display (good for LCD/Plazma displays)
[F10] - Quit game, go to menu
[ESC] - Quit game, go to DOS
Scoring Table:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Invaders 10, 30, 50, 70, 90 points
Saucer ??? points
Extra laser cannon awarded for first 10,000 points.
General Game Play Notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shoot all the Invaders while hiding behind the bunkers to help
protect you. You have a total of four laser cannons ("lives").
Each time you shoot all the Invaders in a given attack wave,
a fresh attack wave will appear.
Each new wave features slightly faster Invaders, and they start
a little closer to your planet each time.
If any aliens touch down on your planet, you have been INVADED,
and you lose the game at that point.
Saucers appear from time to time and can have VERY high score
values, depending on your skill in shooting them. Remember how
the original game did it? :) Just don't get too distracted
shooting at the Saucers...
Some higher attack waves will bombard your planet's visual sensors
and make it difficult for you to see the Invaders. Be careful!
