NO ONE LIVES FOREVER TECHNOLOGY DEMO
Demo Readme File Version 1.0
September 1, 2000
Welcome! Thank you for installing the No One Lives Forever Technology demo. The demo
includes sample levels from three different missions plus the first training level from
the retail version of the game. In order to keep the size of the demo as low as
possible, we are not able to include the full variety of voices, music and sounds
which will be included in the full game. In addition, there are several known
issues you may want to review before playing the demo and submitting your bug report.
There are listed below. Please submit all bugs and feedback at the following URL:

No One Lives Forever
Enter the colorful, cloak and dagger world of villains and superspies, circa 1967. As The Operative, Cate
Archer, you must rely on cunning, stealth, superior firepower and ingenious gadgetry to protect humanity
from twisted madmen bent upon world domination. Expect to enjoy the following in the retail version of
the game:
15 covert missions spanning over 60 levels worthy of any super spy - skydive from a plummeting
airliner, fight off killer sharks and explore twisted jungles.
Smart enemies move and react with striking realism. Watch them seek cover, respond to
suspicious sounds or launch a coordinated offense.
Ride motorcycles and snowmobiles through vast realistic landscapes and environments rich with
texture and detail.
Multiplay for up to 16 players. Take your chances in an all-or-nothing, Good vs. Evil multiplayer
game or go head-to-head in Deathmatch mode.

Notes on Compatibility
No One Lives Forever is designed to function with Windows 95/98/2000 compatible graphics cards and
sound cards. The drivers for these various devices are provided by Windows itself or the respective
manufacturers and may occasionally result in compatibility problems beyond our control.
If you experience any problems, it is always recommended that you obtain the latest drivers for your
hardware. Driver updates resolve the overwhelming majority of compatibility issues. Most hardware
vendors make their drivers available on their web site. If you are unsure of a web site URL for a particular
hardware vendor, you may want to try accessing one of the popular Windows software update sites such
as http://www.windrivers.com .
Graphics Cards
No One Lives Forever detects multiple graphics cards and the resolution settings they are capable of
displaying. Although the user can select the highest possible resolution setting, the game may not be able
to run due to graphics card or system memory limitations.
If you have a version of DirectX later than 7.0 installed on your PC, ensure that your drivers are certified
by the graphics card manufacturer as being compatible with the installed version of DirectX.
If you experience any graphical problems, please ensure that you have the latest available drivers for
your 3D graphics card. In addition to the drivers provided by the board manufacturers, most of the major
chipset manufacturers provide reference drivers on their web sites. Some of the main chipset
manufacturers we support are:
Chipset Manufacturer - Chipset(s) - URL
ATI - Rage, Rage 128, Radeon - http://www.atitech.com
Matrox - G200, G400 - http://www.matrox.com
Nvidia - TNT1 and 2, GeForce 1 and 2 - http://www.nvidia.com
S3 - Savage 3D, Savage 4,Savage 2000 - http://www.s3.com
3Dfx - Voodoo 2, 3, 4, and 5 - http://www.3dfx.com
Known Issues
Windows 2000: A problem with Microsoft's DirectInput may cause mouse or keyboard functions
to keep repeating when the keys or buttons are pressed in conjunction with other buttons. Striking
the "stuck" key or button again should cause the function to stop repeating. Microsoft has released
a service pack which fixes this bug at http://www.microsoft.com/windows.
Joysticks and Gamepads: The full version of No One Lives Forever will feature Joystick and
Gamepad support. At the time of this writing, we are just beginning to address the known
issues with these peripherals.
Text alignment problems on the menus: Some cards may display the menu text out of alignment.
While we have done what we can to address this, the problem will need to be corrected by driver
updates from the board manufacturers. Please check your board manufacturer's web site for the
latest drivers.
Missing cursor on the menus: This problem can occur on several different cards and may be fixed by a
driver update. In addition, because some cards do not support a hardware cursor such as the one
used in No One Lives Forever, you have the option to disable the hardware cursor via the advanced
options button from the game launcher. Simply select "Disable Hardware Cursor". You will now
be provided with a software cursor.
Corrupted graphics in the menus with the Savage chipset cards: This problem occurs with some
of the Savage cards. We have looked into this issue and found that it can only be corrected via a
future driver update.
Corrupted graphics during gameplay using Voodoo Banshee chipset cards: This problem seems
to occur most frequently on Windows 2000 systems. Lowering the detail setting will most likely
resolve the problem. Future driver updates will also reduce this effect.
Corrupted graphics with the Matrox chipset cards: This problem occurs rarely and can usually be
fixed by choosing 16 Bit, rather than 32 Bit, color mode.
Voodoo 5: Mild to severe discoloration can sometimes occur with the Voodoo 5 when using the
two or four pass anti-aliasing modes. In the launcher under Advanced Options, type
"+S3TCEnable 0" into the command line and check the "Always use these settings" box.
This should correct the problem.
Optimizing Performance
If the game appears to be running slowly, there are several steps that can be taken to improve
performance. These include:
Display: The video resolution can be changed via the game launcher or the Display Options Menu.
Performance: The game provides a variety of methods for boosting the performance of the game via the
Performance Menu. Be sure to carefully read the help text for these options.
Close any open windows or programs before launching the game. This includes menu bar
programs such as chat clients, screen savers, anti-virus programs, background programs (i.e.
schedulers, appointment books or e-mail) and startup programs.
Regularly defragment your hard drive and make sure that there is adequate free space.
