  4. The demo is a condensed version of the Links LS 2000 retail version.
  5. The following is a list of differences between the retail version and demo 
  6. version of Links LS 2000:
  7.  
  8. 1.  Mauna Kea is the only available course in the demo. Links LS 2000 has six
  9.     18 hole courses: Mauna Kea, Hapuna, Covered Bridge, and St Andrews Old, New, 
  10.     and Jubilee courses. You can also add on over 20 additional courses (sold 
  11.     separately) with the full retail version.
  12. 2.  Only the front nine holes can be played in the demo. 
  13. 3.  Tournament objects are not available in the demo.
  14. 4.  Quick Start, Multimedia, and Virtual Tournament are not available 
  15.     options in the demo.
  16. 5.  The Lessons menu has been omitted in the demo.
  17. 6.  Male 4 is the only available golfer animation. Links LS 2000 has 12 
  18.     available animations, including Arnold Palmer and Fuzzy Zoeller.
  19. 7.  Recorded players are not available in the demo. 
  20. 8.  There are only five available Modes of Play that can be played in the demo. 
  21.     The full version offers 30 additional MOP's.

  30. SYSTEM NOTES

  32. 1. The Links LS 2000 Demo requires DirectX 6.1 with DirectPlay 6.1a for Windows 95/98 or 
  33. Service Pack 3 for Windows NT 4.0 with DirectPlay 6.1a to be installed on the system 
  34. in order to run properly. You can download the latest versions of DirectX from Microsoft's
  35. website at "http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/".

  38. 2.  AUTOMATIC CRASH RECOVERY
  39. To make sure that a crash is fully recoverable, Links LS 2000 Demo has a built-in 
  40. Automatic (Emergency) Save feature.  The last two games you were playing are saved 
  41. as LASTGAME and OLDLAST, whether the game terminated abnormally or you left the game
  42. before finishing 9 holes.  You can resume either of these games by clicking on 
  43. the RESUME button in the middle of the main menu.  If a 
  44. crash occurs, restart Links LS 2000 Demo as usual.  When the game starts, it 
  45. recognizes that an abnormal termination occurred and will ask you if 
  46. you want to resume the previous game.  If you say YES, it automatically 
  47. resumes LASTGAME.  If you say NO, you can still re-enter the game later by 
  48. clicking the RESUME and selecting LASTGAME from the list of 
  49. saved games.  If you start a new game, it takes the place of 
  50. LASTGAME and LASTGAME takes the place of OLDLAST.  The 
  51. previous version of OLDLAST will be erased.

  53. If resuming your LASTGAME continues to crash, try restarting Windows.

  56. 3. RUNNING OTHER APPLICATIONS WITH Links LS 2000 Demo
  57. Due to the requirements the Links LS 2000 Demo imposes on your system, it is not 
  58. recommended that you run any applications in the background while Links LS 2000 Demo 
  59. is running.

  62. 4. MASTER VOLUME UNDER WINDOWS NT
  63. The Direct Sound component of DirectX does not allow the setting of the 
  64. master volume for the individual games.  To adjust the overall sound in 
  65. the game you must adjust it with the volume levels in the Multimedia 
  66. applet in the Control Panel.

  69. 5. NOTES FROM MICROSOFT DIRECTX 6 - DXREADME.TXT  DATED 7/27/98
  70. - The latest drivers for US Robotics modems can cause problems hosting 
  71. a session. This is a bug in the drivers.

  73. - Disconnecting the phone line while enumerating modem sessions can 
  74. result in lock ups.

  77. 6. PROBLEMS WITH IPX PLAY AND DIRECTX THROUGH VERSION 6.1
  78. All versions of DirectX through DX6.1 do not guarantee the delivery of
  79. IPX data. This is a problem that may be fixed in a future version of
  80. DirectX. We have chosen to leave in the IPX method of playing Links LS 2000 Demo
  81. for those that have no other method of network play.

  84. 7. HARDWARE/SOFTWARE CONFLICT ISSUES
  85.  
  86. Symptoms: - When I run Setup.exe on my system, which has Microsoft Outlook 98
  87.             running and is connected to a Microsoft Exchange Server, the
  88.             setup initialization reaches 100%, but then nothing happens.  If
  89.             I wait a long time, the first dialog box appears and the
  90.             installation proceeds normally.
  91. Cause   : - This problem occurs due to some timing issues between Setup.exe
  92.             and the Microsoft Exchange Server.
  93. Solution: - Close Outlook 98 before running Setup.exe. Generally, you should
  94.             not have any other applications running when you run an
  95.             installation.

  97. Symptoms: - Washed out display
  98.           - Mouse cursor vanishing at odd times
  99. Cause   : - Incompatible or outdated video drivers.
  100. Solution: - Update your video drivers.
  101.  
  102. Symptoms: - Sluggish response while playing.
  103. Cause   : - Low memory (RAM).
  104. Solution: - Increase memory (RAM) by closing other applications.
  105. Cause   : - Extremely fragmented hard drive.
  106. Solution: - (Windows 95/98/2000) Run Windows disk defragmenter.
  107.       - (Windows NT 4.0) Run third-party disk defragmenter.
  108. Cause   : - Low hard drive space.
  109. Solution: - Uninstall unused programs.

  111. Symptoms: - Visual anomalies (course graphics appearing over dialogs, etc.)
  112.           - on Multi-processor Windows NT systems.
  113. Cause   : - Video drivers receiving graphics commands in arbitrary order.
  114. Solution: - Install newest version of video drivers.
  115.  
  116. Symptoms: - Sound stuttering, repeating, or sound contains static
  117. Cause   : - This can be caused if Power Management is enabled and "kicks in"
  118.             while Links LS 2000 Demo is running.
  119. Solution: - Disable Power Management features within the Control Panel 
  120.             and/or your system BIOS.

  122. Symptoms: - DirectDraw Help crashes when the installer tries to launch Links LS 2000 Demo.
  123. Cause   : - Hardware configuration error if running VIPER V550 and Diamond's drivers.
  124. Solution: - Restart the system and start Links.

  126. 8. MSN GAMING ZONE

  130. 9. OPTIONS/GAME SETTINGS
  131. - The Rotate Swing Ball option and Folded Score Card option are 
  132. not available in Links LS 2000 Demo.

  134. 10. HOT KEYS
  135. Alt+C is no longer an available shortcut key for cameras.

  138. We recommend that you do not leave Links LS 2000 Demo playing unattended for an
  139. excessive length of time.  Links LS 2000 Demo is designed to take full advantage
  140. of a technique known as "multithreading," which allows for much faster
  141. screen redraws and physics calculations.  Unfortunately, multithreading is
  142. extremely sensitive to the timing of your individual system.  If extra
  143. applications are running in the background, or power management (either in
  144. the operating system or from your motherboard) "kicks in" during your game,
  145. the timers that Links LS 2000 Demo requires to run properly may be off, and your
  146. game experience may not be as enjoyable as it would be otherwise.
