  3. Some of you may have not checked out the PC Gamer Online web site. If not, go to:

  9. stopping point during your web cruising. News and previews, along with demos,

  14. The new site is completely separate from the magazine, so be sure to check both 
  15. for all your Gaming Goodness needs!

  17. As far as the demos go, we can't stress enough that we can't perform technical support
  18. on any of them. If you have problems reading the disc or it's damaged (in which 
  19. case how are you reading this?) point your web browser to http://support.imaginemedia.com
  20. You'll find replacement forms where you can fill out your replacement CD request.

  22. If you're having difficulties with the front end, or you want to know what the 
  23. latest and greatest information is about The CD, point your web browser to:

  27. and look for information regarding the CD.

  29. Here are a few things to note about this month's CD:
  30.  
  31. DIRECTX 6.1
  32.  
  33. If you try playing a demo, and you receive the error message, "Cannot find DINPUT.DLL," 
  34. it means you need to install the latest version of DirectX. Currently, it's version 6.1.
  35. You can do this by choosing to install DirectX 6.1 through our front end, or install it 
  36. manually by running the DX61ENG.EXE file in the \DIRECTX directory on The CD. Also, pay 
  37. attention to the requirement boxes for each demo in the Disc Pages. It will list whether 
  38. or not the demo requires DirectX. Remember, folks, READ THE DISC PAGES! That's what 
  39. they're there for!

  42. FRONT END STUFF
  43.  
  44. Our front end is designed to be easy to use and very intuitive. However, you can
  45. consult the Disc Pages in the the magazine for more information on how to use certain
  46. buttons. A couple things to note:
  47.  
  48. MESSED UP PALETTE OR STRANGE COLORS
  49.  
  50. The front end is created to run under 256 colors, but not all palettes are created 
  51. equal. If you see distorted colors or otherwise ugly graphics, change your color
  52. depth to 16-bit color. You can do this under the Control Panel, Display. Choose the 
  53. Settings tab, and under Color Palette, select High Color (16-bit).

  55. TECHNICAL SUPPORT
  56.  
  57. If you have any difficulties with any of the demos on The CD, please contact the 
  58. manufacturer of the demo. The technical support numbers for each publisher are listed
  59. on The CD, as well as in the Disc Pages. These demos are culled from a variety of
  60. independent sources, and we provide them "as is." We can't even guarantee that every
  61. demo will run on your system. If you have problems, contact the manufacturers -- they
  62. know more about their product than we do.

  64. However, if you're having problems with the front end itself, (like video not playing,
  65. or lack of sound), you can send in a report by going to our support site at:
