Title : The Ascent from Hell.
Filename : afhell.bsp
Author : DeSoto
Email Address : desoto@primenet.com
Description : The theme revolves around that of The
Evil Dead Clan of which I am a member.
The undead Quake warrior, and his ascent
from Hell.
Additional Credits to : id, of course.
H.R. Giger, Boris Vallejo & Olivia for their
incredible artwork.
Tom Grandgent/Woofer (tgrand@ultra.net) for
qbsp256c. I couldn't have compiled this
map without it.
Jonas P. (JoXonoX@berlin.snafu.com) for Quake
Grafixer v1.0. This util has made my life
much more liveable.
Katana for her advice on texture and color
matching.
Hentai Knight and DaRippah for beta testing.
The entire EVD clan.
Stefano Biefeni for the iris door concept.

* Play Information *
Level Name : The Ascent from Hell.
Single Player : yes. It exits to the 'start' map.
Cooperative 1-16 Player : yes. Gameflow is completely different in co-op.
Deathmatch 2-16 Player : YES!!! 16 DM start points.
Difficulty Settings : All the way.
New Sounds : No
New Graphics : No
Sound Track : 5
Demos Replaced : None
Source Included : No. The .zip is big enough already.
Anything else new : New textures. Some mine, some borrowed.
It's easy to tell them apart. The ones that suck
are mine, the ones that look cool are borrowed.
Well, maybe my new water texture is OK.
These new textures account for much of the large
size of this level.
Comments : This level *requires* more than 8 megs. Make sure
you set the -winmem parm to at least 12.
I sort of learned how to do it as I went so the
quality of contruction varies wildly over
different parts of the map.
I also recommend trying 'coop 1' at the console
b4 you start the map as the gameflow is changed
completely. It's a little harder IMO. The goal
becomes raiding the tomb and getting out in one
piece rather than escaping from it. I don't know
of any other 'reverseable' levels at this time.
Game flow is different in DM also in that
many doors and items are removed in place of more
appropriate ones. I consider this a DM map.
There are 4 secrets and a several traps. All the
weapons are in there but some are hard to find
and/or get.
*Note*: Rocket jumping is required if you plan
on finding all secrets.
* Construction *
Base : Scratch.
Build Time : 2-1/2 weeks, pretty intensely. Of course, I guess that
includes the time spent learning how to make maps, but a
long time anyway.
Times & stats : On a P133 running Win95 with 40megs o' ram.
Qbsp : 46min 54sec
Vis (-level 4) : 4hrs 4min 16sec
Light (-extra) : 18min 17sec
Brushes : 1638
entities : 418
miptex : 143
Texture WAD used: Uniwad.wad - A hybrid of quake101.wad and others along
with some of my own, basically tossed together just
for this level.
Editor(s) used : WorldCraft and MSDOS edit.
Known Bugs : ReaperBot patch occasionally does some weird things.
It's far from unplayable, just slightly buggy. :(
