  10. America was in a hurry to get out of Vietnam. The war was being rapidly turned
  11. over to the mediocre and unreliable Army of the Republic of Vietnam, whether
  12. they were ready or not. As a test of their proficiency, ARVN troops form the
  13. bulk of an attack force into Laos, raiding the Ho Chi Minh trail and looking
  14. for a fight. The real battle did not occur until the Allied troops began their
  15. withdrawal. Then NVA tanks and infantry slammed into the ranks of the ARVN
  16. forces.
