I: VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
NOTE: After you install this patch, you will be unable to restore your
previously saved games and will have to start the game over. However,
there are some workarounds for common problems that may prevent you
from having to use the patch. These workarounds are listed in Section III.
Check them out!
II: WHAT THE PATCH FIXES
This patch upgrades Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail! to version 1.2
and corrects the following problems:
* Lockup when passing gas in the casino.
* Crash when typing more than 20 characters in the text box
* Error 48 when saving and restoring games
* Random lockups
III: WORKAROUNDS
This section contains some simple workarounds for common problems in Love
for Sail. If you're experiencing any of the problems listed below, try these
solutions before you install the patch!
If the game is locking up in the casino when Larry passes gas, edit the
RESOURCE.WIN file in the game directory and change the "leadsubmits=4"
line to "leadsubmits=6". If this doesn't help, try 8 or 10. You can
also avoid the lockup by eating the bean dip THREE times before going
into the casino.
In version 1.01, the game will crash or lock up if you type more than 20
characters in a text box. The patch will correct this, but there is a very
simple workaround: just don't do it! There is nowhere in the game that
you need to type anything that long.
If you're getting an Error 48 when saving or restoring games, this indicates
that you have more than 20 games saved. The patch will prevent this problem
from occurring in the future, but you'll lose all of your currently saved
games. If you prefer, you can salvage your last saved game and play from
that point. Just follow these steps:
1) Find the latest saved game file in the game directory. This file will
probably be named L7SG.020, but if you don't have a L7SG.020, find the file
with the highest number (019, 020, 021, etc.). Copy this file to a floppy
disk or another directory. You're going to need it for Step 4.
2) Delete the current saved games by typing DEL L7SG.* in the game directory.
Or use File Manager or Explorer to remove all the files that begin with L7SG.
3) Start a new game. As soon as you have a chance, save the game, then exit.
4) Rename your saved file (L7SG.020) to L7SG.000, then copy it into the game
directory. Click "Yes" when it asks if you want to replace the existing
file.
5) Start the game and select "Open an Existing Game". You should have one
saved game in the list. Restore this and play! Remember, you cannot save
more than 20 games or you'll get the Error 48 again!
IV: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Follow these steps to install the patch:
1) Copy the file LSL7PAT.ZIP into the game directory and unzip it.
2) Once the file is decompressed, run the batch file LSL7UPD.BAT.
3) Play the game and have fun!
