order.doc -- This is an Order Form that can be printed out for your
convienience and will help us fill your order properly.
hotkeys.doc -- This file shows all the keyboard shortcuts for the game
and should be printed out for quick reference.
vendor.doc -- Important information that you should read if you are, or
want to be, a vendor.
license.doc -- All that fun Legal stuff.
manual.wp -- The manual for the game in the popular WordPerfect format.
manual.txt -- The manual, but in the normal raw text format that you can
read using Edit, or whatever you are using to read this.
NOTE : If you are missing any of these files, please call us at 909-699-4581
between the hours of 11am and 6pm Pacific Standard Time and we will
help you get a complete copy of the game.
Also, if you are going to upload this game to other people, etc.
please upload the original and complete compressed file that you
received.
RUNNING THE GAME...
In your WW1 directory at the prompt just type WW1 to run the game.
Next you will be prompted to select a valid soundcard. Pro Audio
Spectrum Series (option 3 on the menu) should work with the full range
of Pro Audio Spectrum soundcards, such as the Pro Audio Spectrum/
Studio 16. If your soundcard is not on the list, then try
Soundblaster (option 1 on the menu) -- a number of soundcards on the
market today have Soundblaster support, or emulate the Soundblaster
card. Please read your soundcard manual to make sure that yours is
set up correctly for Soundblaster support. If you get kicked back out
of the program with a bunch of obscure error messages, then just run
the game again and select "0" or None for the soundcard and the game
should run fine, albeit without sound. :(
THE REVISIONS PART...
Version 2.3 : Final WarWizard release.
Additions/Changes:
(1) No code has been changed, so the game remains as it was under version 2.2,
however, much information about ordering and how you can reach us HAS
changed.
(2) We no longer have an 800 number for orders.
(3) We no longer accept credit cards of any kind -- check or money order ONLY.
(4) We have a new phone number for technical support for our Registered customers.
(5) We have a new address.
(6) Please see the ORDER.DOC file for all of the new info stated above.
Version 2.2 : Third WarWizard release.
Additions/Changes:
(1) Random Encounter frequency is now selectable. Alt-1 will turn
off random encounters completely, Alt-2 will set random encounters
to reduced frequency, and Alt-3 sets them back to normal (though
reduced in comparison to earlier versions).
(2) A Possessions button was added to the second search screen which
will enable the player to access his/her inventory screen in order
to drop their old armor in favor of a newly found pieces, etc...
(3) The durations for spells such as Search, Tongues, and others, have
been doubled; therefore, these spells will now stay in effect at
least twice as long as in previous versions.
(4) The workings of the increment/decrement food and gold buttons on
the second search screen will now drop/take all available food
or gold when clicked with the left mouse button. The right mouse
button can be used to drop/take in increments (the way it used
to work).
(5) The keys 1,2,3,4 (non-numeric keypad) will now change the current
character while on the Possessions screen (where you view and work
with a character's inventory) and Spellbook Screen (where you
scribe new spells into a character's spellbook and memorize/forget
spells). This allows much faster memorization of spells,
trading of items, and equiping characters by eliminating several
added steps that were previously required to select a different
character.
(6) The amount of points of experience required to reach the next level
of proficiency has been added to the Possessions screen and the
Spellbook screen. This information will appear below your level
of proficiency when you click on a spell in your spellbook or
memory slot (on the Spellbook screen), and when you click on a
weapon, or the armor that you are wearing on your torso (which
reflects your Evasion proficiency, or ability to successfully
dodge attacks). If you have reached the maximum proficiency
for a certain weapon type or spell class, then the message will
tell you that you have mastered that particular ability.
(7) Combat will no longer deduct movement points when you attempt to
attack an enemy that is out of range.
(8) If you are on the second combat screen (where you select your
weapon(s) to use and bodypart to attack) and do not want to
attack, you can now hit the Right Mouse Button, or the Esc key
to return to the first combat screen without performing an
attack. No movement points will be deducted for this action (or
lack of action).
(9) The first time you enter combat, it will automatically default to
Weapon instead of Fist (on the second combat screen), unless there
is no weapon in a hand, which will then cause it to default to
Fist for that hand.
(10) The HOTKEYS.DOC file was modified to take into account the three
new Alt keys for random encounters and other new keys (for the
screens that were altered as stated above).
Version 2.1 : Second WarWizard release.
Bugs Fixed:
(1) Healer bug where gold went negative after too many healings.
(2) Game crash if trying to trade without 1st selecting what to trade.
Additions/Changes:
(1) You may save your game from the main screen at any time, not just
inside Inns.
(2) You can now hit Ctrl-Q (hold down the Control key and press q) to
quit out of the game from anywhere, but it will not save your game.
(3) Ctrl-D will toggle the combat damage popup messages on/off.
(4) Diagonal movement was added to combat (diagonal movement outside of
combat would take weeks to complete, but we might consider this for
future versions).
(5) The message window on the search screen now shows the name of the
item that you are clicked on, instead of it's type. It will say
that it is a "Long Sword +1" instead of just "Long Sword".
(6) The Enter key on the numeric keypad now functions identically to
the normal Enter key.
(7) A new question (and answer) was added to the Q & A portion near the
end of the manual in order to better explain how the player
acquires spells in the game.
(8) HOTKEYS.DOC was modified to include the two new Control keys.
(9) Users who find that the game runs too slow (especially in combat)
should try running the game by typing: WW1386 at the command
prompt, instead of using the usual: WW1.
Version 2.0 : This is the first release of WarWizard(TM) for the
IBM PC and compatibles!
Earlier Versions were for the Commodore Amiga.
THE HOTKEYS PART...
All of the keyboard shortcuts for this game can be found in the
HOTKEYS.DOC file, which you may want to print out for reference
until you are more familiar with them, or just use the mouse!
THE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS PART...
We strongly suggest that you at least read the last two sections of the
manual that come before the Appendices. They are the QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS section and the GAMEPLAY HINTS section. Reading these will help
you get off to a better start.
If you have any other questions, first make sure you've read through the
manual carefully. We did some different and original things in WarWizard,
so don't necessarily assume it's just like other RPG's. READ THE MANUAL.
If you still have a question, you have two options:
1. Call Steve @ 909-699-4581 (from 11am to 6pm PST).
2. Mail one of us on the internet. Our addresses are :
sclover@ix.netcom.com
and bmcquaid@cts.com
We also welcome any comments, feedback, and bug reports you may
have -- please send these also by email on the internet, or by
regular (snail) mail to our address at the top of the Order Form
that is found in the ORDER.DOC file.
THE MONEY PART...
First of all, this game is Shareware, NOT public domain. It is fully
functional and contains several completable quests, but additional quests
(including your final showdown with the the Evil WarWizard) must be
ordered. If you enjoy this game and decide you wish to complete the
additional quests, please print out and complete the ORDER.DOC file and
send it to the address at the top of the Order Form.
Please be sure to specify which size of disks we should ship your
Registered Version on, otherwise we will ship you High Density 3 1/2" disks.
THE INSTALLATION PART...
Please type install in the current directory, which will uncompress
the game into your current directory. Then simply type ww1 to run
the game.
THE LAST PART...
We, the designers of WarWizard(TM), set out to make an CRPG that we would
find fun to play and hopefully others would enjoy as well. We hope that
you will have as much fun playing this game as we did in creating it for
you.
Enjoy the game!
