  16. The .999 Beta release of REX BLADE ins contained is a single directory
  17. "REXBLADE" on the CD ROM. From DOS or from a DOS session in Windows 95
  18. simply change drives to your CD ROM, eg.
  19.

  22. Then change directories to the REXBLADE sub directory. Once in the REXBLADE
  23. sub-directory, simply type INSTALL dest_drive:  eg.

  25. F:\REXBLADE\INSTALL C:
  26.  
  27. This would install the game onto drive C:, after the game files have been 
  28. loaded onto your computer, a sound setup program will be launched. The program
  29. is menu driven, so just follow the menus and select a digital and midi sound
  30. source. After the sound setup program finishes, then you can play REXBLADE
  31. by typing in REX.BAT at the DOS command prompt.

  37. If you are a DOSPERT then you can simply copy the files from the REXBLADE
  38. directory onto your computer from the CD ROM (remember to remove the read
  39. only attribute with ATTRIB -r) then run the sound setup program SETSOUND.EXE
  40. and configure your sound. To play, type REX at the DOS command prompt.

  44. II. PLAYING THE GAME

  46. Rex Blade is controlled from the keyboard and has a great many options
  47. such as Heads Up Display, Wetware Gadgets and a lot of weapons. Take a look
  48. at the file MANUAL.TXT for a complete description of the game play, but if
  49. you want to get right to it, here are the control keys:

  54. <LEFT ARROW>        - Rotate Left
  55. <RIGHT ARROW>       - Rotate Right
  56. <UP ARROW>          - Move Forward.

  58. <ALT>               - Enable Strafing.
  59. <SPACE BAR>         - Inspect/Use Object.
  60. <CTRL>              - Fire Weapon.
  61. <X>                 - Jump Up.
  62. <C>                 - Crouch Down.
  63. <LEFT BRACKET>      - Select Previous Weapon in Arsenal.
  64. <RIGHT BRACKET>     - Select Next Weapon in Arsenal.
  65. <F1>                - Toggle System HUD.
  66. <F2>                - Toggle Bio-Stats HUD.

  80. Game play is simple: kill everything, collect everything and when you find a
  81. computer hack around in it. To complete a level you must use a computer to
  82. teleport out (which you will have to figure out how to do)!

  84. III. TROUBLESHOOTING

  86. Crashes in Windows 95
  87.  
  88. Rex Blade is a 32-bit Protected mode application and likes to run in pure DOS
  89. rather than from a DOS session under Windows 95. So if you are having
  90. trouble running Rex from a Windows 95 DOS session try pure boot DOS. You can
  91. get a pure DOS session from the Windows 95 Start Menu or by re-booting the
  92. computer and pressing F8 during the start up phase.

  94. Sound Problems

  96. Rex Blade uses the Miles Sound System and is extremely reliable, if your sounds
  97. are not audible or don't sound correct then try running SETSOUND.EXE and
  98. re-selecting a different sound card for either digital or midi.

  100. Memory Problems

  102. Rex Blade has a virtual memory manager and should run fine in 16mb of RAM,
  103. actuall Rex will run in 8mb of RAM, but this is a strain on the game.

  105. Speed Problems

  107. If you find that Rex doesn't run fast enough then try running the game from
  108. pure DOS and make sure you have a disk caching program such as SMARTDRIVE.
