  1. Rebel Assault 1.7 Patch Disk
  2.                                                         
  3.    This patch is intended to fix "Unexpected Interrupt"
  4.    errors, joystick jumpiness, running on dark monitors,
  5.    and some dos extender incompatibilities.
  6.                                                                      
  7.  1) Unexpected Interrupts
  8.  
  9.      To fix Unexpected Interrupt errors that occur on some
  10.    machines when running Rebel Assault version 1.0, 
  11.    this patch includes version 1.8 of DOS4GW,
  12.    which will be copied into the REBEL\ directory on your
  13.    C: drive.  This replaces version 1.92, which shipped
  14.    with Rebel Assault 1.0.  Version 1.8 seems more
  15.    compatible with some machines.  However, if you have
  16.    new problems after installing this patch, you can
  17.    copy DOS4GW.EXE from your CD and run the patch as
  18.    directed to take advantage of the joystick fix only.

  20.  2) Joystick Patch
  21.                                                          
  22.      To fix joystick jumpiness, this patch includes a new
  23.    version of ASSAULT.EXE, which will be copied to the
  24.    REBEL\ directory on your C: drive.  In addition, the
  25.    joystick shooting controls have been made less
  26.    sensitive.
  27.                                                          
  28.      If you still have joystick problems, make sure only
  29.    one joystick port is enabled on your machine,
  30.    preferably the one on your sound card.  Also, center
  31.    the trimmer adjustments on your joystick to make sure
  32.    you are using its full range of movement.

  34.  3) Brightness controls
  35.  
  36.      In addition, the new ASSAULT.EXE contains a brightness
  37.    control, which you can access during the game with the
  38.    '.' and ',' keys.
  39.  
  40.  4) Running with more that 16 Megabytes of memory
  41.  
  42.      This disk also contains DOS4GW version 1.95, which
  43.    may fix problems running Rebel on some machines with
  44.    more than 16 megabytes of memory.  Install this version
  45.    by typing "rebel2" as described below.  If this still
  46.    does not work, contact technical support (below).

  48.  5) Installing

  50.    To install ASSAULT.EXE and DOS4GW 1.8
  51.  
  52.      From the floppy, type INSTALL.
  53.  
  54.    To install ASSAULT.EXE and DOS4GW 1.95
  55.  
  56.      From the floppy, type INSTALL2.
  57.  
  58.  6) Running the game with the patch.
  59.                                                          
  60.      Now in the future, run the game by typing 'REBEL'
  61.    from the REBEL\ directory on your C: drive,
  62.    NOT from your CD drive.
  63.  
  64.  7) Making a boot disk.
  65.  
  66.      This patch disk contains BOOTDISK.EXE, a utility which makes a boot
  67.  disk for running Rebel Assault.  After installing this patch, start the
  68.  boot disk maker by typing 'BOOTDISK' while in the REBEL\ directory.
  69.  Be sure to have a blank floppy disk for your 'A' drive ready.
