Patch for updating IndyCar Racing version 1.0 to 1.02
Instructions:
After unzipping the PATCH.EXE and PATCH.RTP files, copy
them into your INDYCAR directory (or whatever you named it)
if you have not unzipped them there. Then type PATCH <return>.
This will update your INDYCAR.EXE and MAIN.DAT files to
version 1.02.
Description:
This version runs under a new version of the Rational Systems
DOS extender, version 1.94a. This should fix a problem in
starting the game on some pieces of hardware. If your machine
still fails to be able to start the game (for instance, hanging
after the DOS/4GW Pro banner), please run the utilities in the
UTIL.ZIP file (available on the Papyrus BBS) and send us the
results. This patch should fix problems those with Acer
machines are having.
This version also should help those of you running out of
memory. First of all, some of the memory allocation is done
differently. Also, if the program determines you do not have
enough memory available when it begins, it will not load the
grass, dirt, or asphalt texture maps for any tracks, nor will
it load the garage wall texture maps. This should free up a
bunch of memory, which will allow you to load the tracks
you're having trouble loading. As always, however, the more
free memory you have, the more opponents you will be able to
run against and/or the longer your replays will be.
Those struggling against memory limitations, we suggest your
CONFIG.SYS file contains a DEVICE line for HIMEM.SYS (for instance,
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
) and, if necessary, a DEVICE line for your sound card.
This version does not fix anything associated with modem play.
