- This file contains important information which supplements
- the User Guide and On-line Help.
-
-
- The following subjects are discussed:
-
- 1. Preparing for Disaster Recovery
- 2. Clearing a corrupt Librarian (Error Codes 8000 - 8499)
- 3. Files not backed up
- 4. Disaster Recovery does not specifically handle compressed drives
- 5. Norton Utilities 3.0 conflict with Backup
-
-
- 1. Preparing for Disaster Recovery [Win9x only]
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Make sure you prepare for a disaster before it happens. Back up
- your data regularly and test out the Disaster Recovery feature
- as soon as possible. Follow the tips below to ensure a safe
- recovery:
-
- . Test the Disaster Recovery feature by selectively restoring a
- small amount of data to an alternate path.
-
- . Run ScanDisk before you backup your data. This will ensure
- that none of your long file names are corrupt.
-
- . Make sure your zip/jaz disk is in the drive when you boot
- up from the Recovery Diskette. This helps the utility identify
- the drive type.
-
- . When starting a complete disaster recovery, boot up with the
- Recovery Tools Disk and format the drive using the '/s'
- parameter. Do not use a DOS disk to format the drive.
-
-
- 2. Clearing a corrupt Librarian (Error codes 8000 - 8499)
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If Iomega Backup starts reporting error codes between 8000 and 8499,
- the Librarian has probably been damaged. To correct this delete the
- following files from the tools directory:
-
- Fileinfo.dbf
- Fileinfo.cdx
- Files.dbf
- Files.cdx
- Files.fpt
- Files.stk
- Tapes.cdx
- Tapes.dbf
- Tapes.fpt
- Tapes.stk
- Volumes.dbf
- Volumes.cdx
- Volumes.stk
-
- Iomega Backup will recreate these files the next time it runs.
-
-
- 3. Files not backed up

- 4. Disaster Recovery does not specifically handle compressed drives
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you are using a drive compression utility, you must follow the steps
- below to recover your system.
- a. Boot to the recover application
- b. Perform a selective restore of the Windows system
- directory, the Iomega Tools directory, and any compression
- drivers you need.
- c. Reboot the machine and set the drive up for compression.
- d. Restore the rest of your data through Iomega Backup.
-
-
-
- 5. Norton Utilities 3.0 conflict with Backup
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you are running Norton Utilities 3.0 with Disk Imaging on it is possible to
- get an image error while performing a backup. The error message will state
- " Image: Error, An error occured updating the image data for drive "Your Iomega
- Drive ". This disk is either missing, full, or damaged."
-
- To resolve this problem perform the following steps before performing a backup:
-
- a. Ensure you have a disk in your Iomega removable drive.
- b. Go to the Start Menu, Programs, Norton Utilities, Image.
- c. Click on the Run Image Now. Note - You should have to only perform
- this operation 1 time.
-
- Never run Norton Utilities Disk Image while performing a backup as this could
- cause problems.
