  15. Using WordPad to View This Document
  16.  
  17. Enlarge the WordPad window to its maximum size to make this document easier to read.

  19. To enlarge the window, either:
  20.  
  21. - Click the Maximize button in the upper right-hand corner of the window, or 
  22.  
  23. - Click on the system menu in the upper left-hand corner of the WordPad window 
  24.   (or press Alt+Spacebar), and then choose the Maximize command.
  25.  
  26. To move through the document, press Page Up or Page Down or click the 
  27. arrow at the top or bottom of the scroll bar on the right side of the
  28. WordPad window.

  30. To print the document, choose the Print command from the File menu.

  50. Installing eTrust Content Inspection - Personal Edition

  53. NOTE: For NT users, you must login to the machine as a Windows NT Administrator 
  54. before you install eTrust Content Inpsection Personal Edition on your system!

  56. Installation Process
  57.  
  58. 1. After the installation image is extracted from the ZIP file, run or 
  59.    double click on SETUP.EXE to initiate the setup process.
  60.   
  61. 2. InstallShield loads and displays a welcome splash screen.
  62.    To proceed with the setup procedure, click Next.
  63.  
  64. 3. Accept the License Agreement
  65.  
  66.    The License Agreement displays. Click Yes to accept the license
  67.    agreement and proceed with the installation. 
  68.  
  69.    Clicking No terminates the setup procedure.
  70.  
  71. 4. Choose the folder destination location
  72.  
  73.    The Choose Destination Location window displays. The default
  74.    destination folder for the Personal Edition installation is:
  75.  
  76.         C:\Program Files\ComputerAssociates\eTrustCI\Personal Edition\
  77.  
  78.    To select a different folder for the installation, click Browse, select
  79.    the path for the folder of your choice, and click OK. 
  80.  
  81.    To proceed with the setup procedure, click Next.

  83. 5. Select a Program folder
  84.  
  85.    The Select Program Folder displays. By default, Setup will add
  86.    program icons to the program folder named 
  87.    eTrust Content Inspection - Personal Edition
  88.  
  89.    To change the folder, select an alternate folder from 
  90.    your list of existing folders. 
  91.  
  92.    Click Next to proceed with the setup procedure, Cancel to 
  93.    terminate the installation, or Back to return to the previous
  94.    window.
  95.  
  96. 6. Setup is complete
  97.  
  98.    When Setup has finished installing eTrust Content Inspection
  99.    Personal Edition on your computer, the Setup Complete
  100.    window displays. 
  101.  
  102.    Click Finish. You will be prompted to view the README.TXT file.
  103.  
  104. 7. During the installation process, eTrust Content Inspection 
  105.    Personal Edition automatically interrogates the 
  106.    machine it is being installed on to discover the e-mail clients
  107.    that it will be interacting with.
  108.  
  109.    If you install additional e-mail clients on your machine after 
  110.    you have installed eTrust Content Inspection Personal Edition,
  111.    you must reinstall eTrust Content Inspection Personal Edition 
  112.    so that the new e-mail clients will be recognized.

  117. Usage Considerations and Examples

  121. The eTrust Content Inspection Personal Edition (eTCIPE) protects users from 
  122. e-mails and their attachments in the following ways:
  123.  
  124. * If the attachment is a VBS file, the e-mail client environment will be 
  125. protected against the execution of the VBS by eTCIPE (VBS file execution 
  126. is totally blocked).
  127.  
  128. * If the attachment is an HTML file containing VBS code, opening the 
  129. HTML file (which would typically invoke the VBS functions) will also be 
  130. protected against (blocked) by eTCIPE.
  131.  
  132. * If the e-mail has no attachment, but contains inline VBS code that 
  133. your e-mail client would typically execute automatically, it will also be 
  134. protected by eTCIPE (VBS functions will be blocked). 
  135.  
  136. * If the attachment is an EXE file, eTCIPE will permit the normal execution 
  137. of that attached EXE if, and only if, that EXE does not attempt any access 
  138. to the disk.  Any attempt to access the drives by the attached EXE when 
  139. executed from the e-mail client environment will be blocked.
  140.  
  141. A user may of course make the conscious and deliberate decision to accept 
  142. an attachment and execute it.  To accomplish this, the user must explicitly 
  143. save the attachment to disk, and then execute that attachment from an 
  144. environment other than the e-mail client.
  145.  
  146.  
  147. Examples:
  148.  
  149. * A user gets an e-mail with a VBS attachment called ILOVEYOU.VBS. If the 
  150. user opens the attachment from the e-mail environment, eTCIPE will detect an 
  151. attempt to execute VBS from this environment and block the execution.  The 
  152. VBS will not execute and the user will get a message on the screen reporting 
  153. that the execution was blocked.
  154.  
  155. * A user gets an e-mail with an EXE file from a colleague.  If the attached 
  156. EXE is invoked from the e-mail client environment, the EXE will begin to 
  157. execute and will be closely and automatically monitored by eTCIPE.  If the 
  158. EXE file that is executing from the e-mail client environment attempts to 
  159. access any disk files for any reason, it will be blocked (execution will 
  160. terminate).

  172. 3.  Blocking all e-mail attachments containing HTML pages with VBScript.
  173. 4.  Blocking e-mail messages in HTML format containing VBScript.
