CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT will load the default Regional Settings (e.g. units of measure ), as set in Control Panel, Regional Settings. Should Regional Settings be changed at a later date, the Coreldraw.ini (located in the \Workspace\Application\workspace name folder) must be deleted in order for this change to be recognized by the applications. Please note that custom application settings will be returned to default settings after deleting these files. <H3>Web links</H3> The Web links inside our applications use technology that is only supported in more recent versions of Web browsers. If you have an old Web browser and are experiencing problems using the Web links, try upgrading your Web browser. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="Corel Setup 9"></A>Corel® Setup 9 Readme Notes</H2> <H3>General</H3> With certain types of installations, there may be a delay between selecting the "Install" button on the Ready to Install setup screen and choosing to restart your system. Please be patient. Before Installing CorelDRAW® 9 Premium Color Edition Prior to running the setup for CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition, ensure that all applications are closed. This includes all virus detection programs and any other applications that may be open in the system tray or on the Windows taskbar. Not doing so may increase the installation time and may interfere with the normal setup process. If you install CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition overtop of CorelDRAW 9 Suite (build 397), the Web links within the applications will cease to function. To maintain your Web links in CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition, it is recommended that you uninstall CorelDRAW 9 Suite (build 397) prior to installing CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition. Different language versions of CorelDRAW 9 Suite and CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition cannot co-exist in the same operating system. If you have multiple language versions of CorelDRAW 9, you will only be able to have one language version installed at any one time. Heidelberg ColorOpen ICC LE can be installed by running Intro.exe found on CD #1. Removing Older Versions of Applications Corel does not recommend installing CorelDRAW 9 applications over any previous release version (e.g., CorelDRAW 5, CorelDRAW 6, CorelDRAW 7, CorelDRAW 8). Please ensure that you install CorelDRAW 9 applications to a new folder. To uninstall a previous version, run the Corel Uninstall program from Start menu, Programs, CorelDRAW > Setup and Notes (or Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs - Corel Applications). If you choose to install over a previous installation of CorelDRAW 9, your user modifiable files will be backed up. The configuration files in CorelDRAW 9 will not be backed up (e.g., workspace changes), as these files are not affected by setup. If you install CorelDRAW 9 onto a system that has any previous release version (e.g., CorelDRAW 5, CorelDRAW 6, CorelDRAW 7, CorelDRAW 8) and decide to uninstall CorelDRAW 9, you may encounter problems with your previous release version. If so, please re-run the previous version's setup. When installing and uninstalling this application, take note of any color profiles, scripts or sample files that you may have modified and saved to its original name. To prevent the removal or overwriting of your current color profiles, scripts or sample files that you may have modified, ensure that you first copy the modified files to another location before installing updates or uninstalling this application. Adding, deleting, and updating CorelDRAW® 9 components After installing CorelDRAW 9, you can add components to the installation. You can delete CorelDRAW 9 components to free up disk space. You can also update components to refresh their configuration settings. Updating components also repairs CorelDRAW 9 if you have accidentally deleted application files. Corel does not recommend installing additional CorelDRAW 9 components to different locations. To add components to a CorelDRAW 9 installation 1. Close any open CorelDRAW 9 applications. 2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, Programs, CorelDRAW 9, Setup and Notes, Corel Setup Program. 3. Enable the Add New Components button. 4. Click the Next button, and follow the installation instructions in the Setup Wizard. To delete installed CorelDRAW 9 components 1. Close any open CorelDRAW 9 applications. 2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, Programs, CorelDRAW 9, Setup and Notes, Corel Uninstall Program. 3. Click the Next button, and follow the installation instructions in the Corel Uninstaller. To update a CorelDRAW 9 installation 1. Close any open CorelDRAW 9 applications. 2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, Programs, CorelDRAW 9, Setup and Notes, Corel Setup Program. 3. Enable the Update Current Installation button. 4. Click the Next button. 5. Click the Install button. To remove other applications to preserve disk space 1. Click Start on the Windows Taskbar, then click Settings, Control Panel. 2. Click Add/Remove Programs, then follow the on-screen prompts. If Add/Remove Programs does not include an option to remove the program, see if the original Setup or Install program includes an Uninstall option. If there isn't an Uninstall option, delete the program files manually or use one of the uninstall programs available from your software retailer. Under certain circumstances, the Corel Uninstaller program may be removed from the system prematurely. Should this occur, simply copy the file uninst32.exe from the root of CD#1 to the Operating System\Corel folder (e.g., \Windows\Corel). Digital Signature Features and Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications 6.0 The Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications setup option is available as an option under Productivity Tools in a Custom Setup. One of the new features of Visual Basic for Applications, is the integration of Digital Signature technology to prevent unauthorized macro execution. Please refer to the Visual Basic for Applications section of this document for further details on the installation of this feature. Please note that the release version of Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications 6.0, that is shipped with your copy of CorelDRAW 9, is not compatible with Microsoft® Office 2000® CPP (more commonly referred to as Beta copy). They are using Visual Basic for Applications 6.0 Beta 2, and it will not run with the release version of Visual Basic for Applications 6.0 installed. If you already have Microsoft® Office 2000® CPP installed, you must uninstall it in order to allow the release version of Visual Basic for Applications that ships with CorelDRAW 9 to install. For our users who are using Microsoft® Operating Systems in languages other than English, please note the following. In some cases where the appropriate language version of IE5 was not available, the English version was included instead. What this means is that if you have a French Operating System and install our Digital Signatures using IE5, your browser will now become an English browser. This may cause English text strings to appear within the Operating System. Setup Issues On Middle Eastern Windows 98 Versions Please note that Windows 98 Arabic and Hebrew requires the corresponding localized version of Internet Explorer 5. The localized version of Internet Explorer 5 was not available in the market at the time of this product release. Corel products will not install any version of Internet Explorer, or its files, if it detects an Arabic or Hebrew Windows 98 on your system due to this requirement. Therefore, users will not be able to use the Digital Signatures feature available to Visual Basic, until a localized Internet Explorer 5 is available and installed by the user at a later time. This feature limitation does not affect Corel products installed on Windows 95 and NT. Setup Issues with Video Drivers If you have an ATI Rage 128 video card and are experiencing the following problem, please download new video drivers from ATIÆs web page (www.atitech.ca): ôAfter going through the Setup and clicking the ôInstallö button on the ôReady to installö setup screen, the Setup will start to copy files and then reboot the machine without warning. After reboot, the Setup will not continue.ö The new ATI Rage 128 video drivers will address this Setup problem. Disk space requirement Disk space required for this installation may vary depending on drive configuration. For example, a 2Kb file on a FAT (File Allocation Table) formatted disk will occupy 16Kb on a 1Gb drive, and 32Kb on a 2Gb drive. The install bases its calculation on the actual file size and not the required disk space size. Therefore, installing to a large, partitioned drive that is FAT formatted, and is quite full, lack of space errors may be encountered towards the end of the installation. To conserve disk space on install, not all the Frames and bitmap fills will be installed. They are however, all included on the CD in their corresponding folders (\Custom\Frames and \Custom\Tiles). Registration As the On-line Registration Wizard does not accept Asian characters, please enter information with your IME off, or register your software using the other registration alternatives. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="CorelDRAW 9"></A>CorelDRAW® 9 Application Readme Notes</H2> <H3>File I/O</H3> Temporary files are stored in the root directory (i.e. c:\ drive). The drive can be changed in Tools, Options, Memory, however it is only limited to the root directory of the specified drive. Importing a *.cdr file will not maintain layers and pages. In order to maintain the position and size of all objects created in a file while importing, press Space Bar or Enter key when the import handle appears. Exporting a *.cdr file to a *.cmx file format will not maintain the page layout. When saving CorelDRAW files (*.cdr) to previous versions, Visual Basic for Applications projects will not be saved with the file. A prompt to this effect will appear on save. <H3>User Interface</H3> Object Properties docker cannot be docked together with any other dockers. All roll-ups from CorelDRAW 8 have been converted to dockers. Some dockers which are not accessible from the menus can be customized in by going into Tool, Options, Customize. Full details of Info Line on the Status bar can be viewed in its entirety by invoking its tooltip. <H3>Select Hidden Objects Feature</H3> The modifier keys associated with this new feature, Alt, Ctrl, and Shift cannot all be used at the same time. You can use Alt, Alt-Shift, Alt-Ctrl but not Alt-Ctrl-Shift to combine all functions. This feature can also be sensitive to movement when using a Pen tablet. Select and move slowly for best results. <H3>Scrapbook/Clipart/Photos</H3> Dragging objects from DRAW into any tab of the Scrapbook will save only the selected objects, not all the objects in the file. This is of particular concern when dealing with multiple page files. Please be sure to save your file as well. A Texture fill is an algorithmically generated fill. Due to the complexity of these fills, only the default parameters of the Texture fill will be stored in script recordings. This affects the saving of Texture fills performed through the Favorite Fills and Outlines page in the Scrapbook Docker. Any changes to the default Texture fill will not be saved and must be re-applied after running the script or applying the Favorite Fill. The CorelDRAW 8 clipart collection that is contained on CorelDRAW 8 CD#2 is in Corel Media Folders. To view this clipart in Windows NT 4.0, the Corel Media Folders 8 application must be installed or Internet Explorer 4.0 (Standard Installation) is required. <H3>Eraser Tool</H3> It is not possible to erase grouped objects. You can, however, Ctrl-Pick an object within the group with the eraser tool and erase it individually. <H3>Knife Tool</H3> With the 'Auto-Close On Cut' option selected you cannot cut an open curve using either the start or end nodes of the curve. This also includes using the new Freehand Knife and Bezier Knife Tool functions. <H3>Text and Styles</H3> New Text Wrap Styles will not be maintained when saving files back previous versions. The default straddle contour wrap style will be applied to all objects in files saved as Version 8 or earlier. Some refresh issues may be encountered when editing text on systems that use a Matrox card; updating to the latest drivers (v4.12 or later) will correct the problems. Some limitations may occur when embedding script fonts using TrueDocÖ. If effects (such as blends, contours, lenses) are applied to text strings containing an embedded graphic, the graphic will not display on screen or when printed. A discrepancy between Adobe Type1 font widths when creating and opening files across Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 9x was detected in CorelDRAW 8 and has been corrected in CorelDRAW 9. However, the new calculation has resulted in the following effects: <BLOCKQUOTE> a) A file created in CorelDRAW 9 (running on any Operating System) then saved as a Version 8 file, will contain no font width discrepancy if opened in CorelDRAW 8 running on Windows NT, but the text will appear narrower if the file is opened in CorelDRAW 8 running on Windows 9x. </BLOCKQUOTE> <BLOCKQUOTE> b) A file created in CorelDRAW 8 (running on Windows 9x) opened in CorelDRAW 9 (running on Windows 9x) will cause the text to appear wider (as though you had opened it in CorelDRAW 8 (running on Windows NT). A file created in CorelDRAW 8 (running on Windows NT), will open just fine in CorelDRAW 9 running on any Operating System. c) There are no problems saving and opening CorelDRAW 9 files between Operating Systems. All the discrepancies described above, affect the appearance of the file only, there is no corruption in the data in the file. </BLOCKQUOTE> Asian Specific Text Features Vertical Text attributes cannot be saved in Text styles. With the Inline-IME feature enabled, the automatic spell checking feature may not identify the misspelled text immediately. The default font used Panose Font matching is an English font, therefore the default font must be manually changed to a Japanese Font in Tools, Options, Text, Fonts, Panose Font Matching. <H3>Artistic Media Tool</H3> When selecting objects with the Artistic Media tool for the creation of a new brush stroke, you can hold down the ALT key to enable marquee selection with the Artistic Media tool. Single clicking with this tool is reserved for selection purposes. You can create a straight line segment or curve by using the TAB key. At any point while drawing with the tool, press the TAB key to go in straight line mode and move the cursor to create the line. Press TAB again to draw the line and put you back in freehand drawing mode. The Artistic media docker is only meant to be used for applying changes to strokes that have already been created. To change the brush type you must use the property bar. It is not recommended that certain effects or bitmaps are used when creating and saving brush strokes. A warning dialog will let you know if the save transaction is not recommended. If you still decide to save the stroke the results are as is. Additional Spraylists can be obtained from CD#3 in the \Spraylist\Draw folder. Additional Brushes can be obtained from CD#3 in the \Brsh_tex\Draw folder. To add a Spraylist or Brush to your default list, simply copy it from the CD to the Program Files\Corel [substitute your install path, if not default] \Graphics9\Draw\CustomMediaStrokes folder. Take note that the files contained on the CD will be 'Read Only' when copied to the hard drive. To edit these files, ensure that the 'Read Only' attribute is removed from the file properties. It is recommended that users avoid spraying complex objects over each other. This will result in long display times. Several of the sample Spraylist files contain objects with low resolution texture fills. If you wish to print these to high quality media (e.g., an imagesetter, high-resolution ink jet printer, etc...), you should open these files in CorelDRAW and adjust the dpi of the texture fills accordingly. <H3>OLE</H3> CorelDRAW objects with Texture, Vector or Bitmap fills may have white lines through them when dragged and dropped into some applications. To avoid these lines, copy and paste the objects into the client application instead. To update a linked OLE object manually, select the manual radio button from the Links dialog before opening the linked object in its server application. The server application must be shut down and re-opened each time for a manual update to occur. In order to insert a GIF, JPEG, TIF and other file types into CorelDRAW using Edit\Insert New Object, drag\drop or copy\paste, it is necessary to do a Custom installation and select the File Associations folder from both CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT components and check off the desired file types. <H3>Scripts and Presets</H3> Multiple presets should not be applied onto the same object. This feature has been disabled. <H3>Bitmap Creation/Editing</H3> Color adjustment and transformations from the Effects menu are not applicable to objects with Bitmap or Texture fills. If certain items under this menu are available it is because the object has an outline, to which these effects are applicable. It is normal for a cropped bitmap to lose it's cropping path when certain bitmap effects are applied. Certain bitmap effects will have color swatch and color picker tools inactive. This is because CorelDRAW does not utilize this functionality, but Corel PHOTO-PAINT does. <H3>Publish to Internet</H3> For best GIF bitmap output when publishing to the Internet, use the Adaptive palette setting and anti-aliasing checked off. HTML output containing objects overlapped by form objects may yield fractured representation of the underlying object. This is dependent on browser convention for displaying the form object. For most accurate results when creating hypergraphic objects with empty space inside the perimeter of the object, using the Trim command (and deleting the intersection object) is preferable to the Combine command. This is when the desired hotspot area will correspond to the objects outline. <H3>Fills and Outlines</H3> Color Styles When using Autocreate, and Automatically Link Similar Colors Together, a shift in color may be noticed. This is normal behavior as Color Styles set a link between the styles created and the objects in the document, and they are based on the HSB Color Model (Hue, Saturation and Brightness). The colors are converted from the documents color model (ie: CMYK) into the HSB color space and then back to the documents color model again, (CMYK). Palette Editor Navigation through the selected palette can be done using the arrow keys on the keyboard, but Enter, Spacebar, or F2 will need to be selected in order to update the Name field. Eyedropper The Eyedropper in "Selection" mode will always return an RGB value in the Color Docker, when an area of 25 pixels or greater is selected. The Eyedropper is a tool for the selection of color only, and will not pick up other properties, such as Outline Width, etc. Multiple OnScreen Palettes The ability to drag a color from one palette to another is only possible when the palette that you are dragging the color to is a custom palette. In other words, an editable palette. Fixed Palettes will not accept other colors. Tinting of Objects or Color Mixing When an object has a fill or an outline or both, you can tint or mix colors. To tint a fill only you use the CTRL + Click on a color. To tint an outline only, you use the CTRL + ALT+ Click on a color. To tint both the Fill and the Outline at the same time, you use CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+Click on a color. Postscript Fills Postscript Fills may take longer to render to the screen than other types of fills. To speed the display time of the Postscript Fill, deselect the "Show Postscript fills in enhanced view" setting in the Workspaces under Display. Deselecting this will not allow you to see the actual fill, but rather a "PS" placeholder. <H3>Guidelines</H3> When opening CorelDRAW 8 files, the default guideline color will change to the Layer 1 override color used originally when the file was first saved in CorelDRAW 8. <H3>Object Data Manager</H3> Entering dates into the Object Data Manager CorelDRAW 9 allows you to enter dates into the Object Data Manager (ODM) datasheet for both the 20th and 21st centuries while still using 2-digit shortcuts. If you enter 00 to 49, the date will be assumed to be 2000 to 2049. If you enter 50 to 99, the date will be assumed to be 1950 to 1999. You can override the century assumption by entering 4 digits for the year, such as 4/26/2097. To edit dates in the Object Data Manager: If you remove and reenter the last two digits of a date entered into an ODM datasheet, the original century will remain. If you remove all 4 digits and reenter the last two digits, the century will be assumed according to the cutoff dates described above. If you want to change the century assumption, you must enter all 4 digits for the date. To set the Object Data Manager datasheet display to default to 4 digits: When you create a new ODM datasheet in CorelDRAW 8, the default date display is set to 2 digits. We recommend that you change the date default to display all 4 digits so that you can easily see which century is being assumed for the dates entered and displayed. To do this, double click on the field, which opens the Object Data Field Editor. Click on Change (under Format), and choose Format Type > Date/Time. Then select a 4 digit year display. Dates entered into the Object Data Manager datasheets are stored as serial numbers. For example, if you typed a 1 into a date formatted datasheet, it would be displayed as 12/31/1899. For the latest information, feel free to visit the site at http://www.corel.com/2000.htm <H3>Documents with Multiple Page Sizes and Orientations</H3> The new Default/Current page toggle on the property bar, in between the Landscape Orientation button and the Drawing Units drop down list, is used to create documents with multiple page sizes and orientations. If the top of the toggle (icon has 3 pages on it) is depressed then only the settings of the default page will be reflected in the property bar. If bottom of the toggle is depressed (icon has only one page on it) then the property bar will reflect the settings of the current page. Layout/Switch page orientation only changes the orientation of the current page. <H3>Object Manager</H3> The Object Manager does not support dragging objects across pages. <H3>Snap to Object Behavior</H3> Added to CorelDRAW 9 is the ability to return to CorelDRAW 8's Snap to Object behavior. This can speed up dragging of complex drawings significantly, but can result in less precise snapping. This new option is available through the Tools menu's Options dialog (Tools, Options...). Double-Click on the Document section of the Options dialog's tree, and then select Grid. Two new radio buttons can be found at the bottom of the Grid options page which allow you to alternate between snapping behaviors. This setting is maintained in your individual documents. For your information, CorelDRAW 9 snaps objects to nodes on both the target and source objects AND the position of the cursor while dragging. CorelDRAW 8 only snaps to nodes on the target object from the position of the cursor while dragging the source object. <H3>Web Links on Asian versions of Windows 95</H3> Update Links has been disabled for users of CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition running Asian versions of Windows 95. To manually update the links that appear under the menu option of Help, Corel On The Web you must open WEBLINKS.TXT file found under \GRAPHICS9\CONFIG\ folder. Simply change the HTTP address location to the right of the web location title. For example: FROM: &Corel Home Page http://product.corel.com/query.htm?topic=home TO: &Corel Home Page http://www.corel.com <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="Photo-Paint 9"></A>Corel PHOTO-PAINT® 9 Application Readme Notes</H2> <H3>Improved Tablet Support</H3> There have been several valuable enhancements to Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9's tablet support. These include convenient Pen ID support for Wacom Intuos tablets which saves the last used tool for each pen. We've also created a Pen Tablet Pressure configuration dialog that allows you to optimize your tablet support. (You can access this configuration dialog from Tools - Options and then select Workspace - General) We've also changed the fingerwheel configuration on the Wacom Intuos Airbrush from the Brush Rate of Flow to Transparency supplying super painting control. Last but not least we've provided a full set of super-quality Pen Setting presets to save users the time of creating and saving their own. To take advantage of Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9's enhanced tablet support with preset pen settings, you need to replace six files in your installed program. From the CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition CD#1 "\Photopnt\Pen Settings" folder copy the six files and paste them into your install folder, "\Program Files\Corel\Graphics9\Photopnt". Click the "Yes to all" button on the Confirm File Replace dialog. When you launch Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9, hold down the F8 key on your keyboard and answer Yes to "Are you sure you want to overwrite the current workspace with the factory default?". If, at a later time, you wish to return to the original brush settings, you will need to rerun the setup. <H3>File I/O</H3> New features in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 will not be saved out in the previous CPT 7/8 file format used by Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7 and 8. Drop Shadows in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 will not be supported and text will not be editable. Users that wish to save an image containing Drop Shadows to the older Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7/8 CPT file format will first have to either Split or Combine the shadows and their objects. Earlier versions of Corel PHOTO-PAINT treated the shadows as separate objects, and would not æunderstandÆ the new method in which Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 treats the shadow as a property of the object. .CPT files created in previous versions will be opened as CPT 9 files. When you save the files, they will be saved as CPT 9. If you wish to save out a .CPT file in a previous version, you can use the File - Save As command. File Open - Partial Load is now only available for movie format files. <H3>Color Management</H3> In general, it is not recommended to operate an Imaging application in a 256 color display environment since the colors in your 24-bit images will appear dithered. We recommended that you set your display to 16 million colors or True Color for optimum color display. <H3>Memory Management</H3> Swap Space, as a rule for any Imaging application, your available Swap Space should be approximately three times larger then the size of the image that you are opening. So if you are opening a 50 meg image, you should have at least 150 Meg free Swap Space available. You can set your Swap Drives from Tools Menu - Options dialog. Select Workspace - Memory option in the Options dialog and pick the drives that you want to use for your Swap Drives. Select the drive with the greater amount of free space as your Primary Swap Drive. <H3>OLE</H3> Drag & Drop of Lens is limited to within Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9.0, other applications cannot support Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9.0 Lens. <H3>Undo/Redo and Scripting</H3> Undo/Redo Docker Undo/Redo Docker keeps track of all steps done in Corel PHOTO-PAINT, this new feature can be used to undo steps. You can save these steps and run them from the Recorder Docker or edit them through Corel SCRIPT Editor. Note that Edit - Undo and Edit - Redo are still available for use. The default Undo Level in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 have been increased to 10. To improve in performance on slower machines, you can decrease the number of Undo Levels. Corel SCRIPT Editor If you have CorelDRAW 8 still active on your system, and install CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition (with Script Editor enabled on setup), your Corel 8 SCRIPT Editor will no longer function. This can be easily fixed by copying the SCINT78.dll from the CorelDRAW 8 CD (Redist Folder) back onto your system folder (Windows 95/98) or System32 Folder (Windows NT). Both Editors will then work correctly. Scripts The ContactSheet script is only working with file types specified in the ContactSheet dialog box. Also when choosing a destination folder for the generated file, choose the same folder as your initial files. <H3>Paths</H3> Paths in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 are now saved within the CPT format. It is no longer necessary to save path files individually from the image. Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 also supports various vector file formats for importing/exporting paths however the older .pth file format is no longer supported. A workaround to use the older paths in version 9 is to convert paths to mask in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 8. Save the masks and open in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9. You may then use the Mask to Path function to convert them back in to vectors. Another option would be to save the file in Version 8 as an EPS file with a clipping path. The Clipping path will load as a path in Version 9. <H3>Text</H3> Editing text objects Editing text objects created in previous versions will cause single text objects to shift position a little. Multiple line text objects will shift significantly more. This is due to changes in the way that we handle text in the Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9. Text spacing Text sizing and spacing may appear differently in Version 9 due to fixes to the text engine since Version 8. <H3>Drop Shadows</H3> The Drop Shadow interface has changed considerably in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9. In previous versions, the Drop Shadow effect was only available as a menu option; now, it is a handy, on-screen tool, fully interactive, and much more flexible. While it may be a change for users familiar with earlier versions of Corel PHOTO-PAINT, you'll quickly find it is much faster to use, and gives you a much wider range of Drop Shadow possibilities. Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 also includes an accelerator key (S) for quick access to this new tool. Drop Shadow Performance Issue - Perspective Mode. Users may encounter slow refresh rates when adding to an object that has a perspective Drop Shadow. Objects with a flat Drop Shadow do not exhibit this behavior. <H3>Objects and Lenses</H3> Users may encounter some refresh issues with certain Lenses, if an object existing below the Lens is moved. In such cases, a refresh of the Lens layer (by clicking the æeyeÆ icon in the Object Docker for the lens in question) will clear things up. <H3>Effects</H3> Duotone Images and Tune Effects Though the Effects menu, Blur - Tune, Noise - Tune, and Sharpen - Tune are disabled for images in paletted color mode, these effects will work with duotone images. However, when previewing the effect in on-screen preview mode, the in-dialog thumbnail images will display in grayscale only. Lab Color Mode Due to the differences in the Lab color mode, it is recommended to apply certain effects (listed below) in RGB mode, then convert to Lab mode. <UL> <LI>3D Effects - The Boss <LI>3D Effects - Glass <LI>Art Strokes - Pen and Ink <LI>Art Strokes - Water Color <LI>Creative - Kids Play - Paint by Numbers <LI>Creative - Stained Glass <LI>Color Transform - Psychedelic <LI>Texture - Plaster Wall <LI>Texture - Underpainting </UL> <H3>3rd Party Plug-ins</H3> Some of the Plug-in dialog boxes do not support a display of 256 colors or less and consequently the display is very poor. The current work around is to increase the video screen display to 16-Bit color or higher. Format Plug-ins (Plug-ins that appear in the Filter list for File - Open/Save and Import/Export dialogs) can now be installed to any location. They no longer need to be placed within the \Filters\Plugins directory. When you're using the repeat command, the Plug-in user interface is not necessarily accessed again. However this feature varies with Plug-ins. This pertains to the following 3 areas: <UL> <LI>Edit - Repeat (CTRL+L) <LI>Effects - Repeat <LI>Undo/Redo list (Docker) </UL> If you run into an error when trying to use an Extensis Plug-in - "Could not load registration libraries, please reinstall Plug-in", this occurs because the file EtoolBox.dll was installed to another directory. Do a search for the file EtoolBox.dll , usually found in the area of where you installed the Plug-in or in the Corel PHOTO-PAINT directory. After finding the file, copy it into the directory (where you had installed it to). Input/Output Plug-ins are supported for File - Open/Save and Export but not File - Import. <H3>Movies</H3> QuickTime® MOV and QuickTime® VR To Open/Save QuickTime® MOV and QuickTime® VR files in Corel PHOTO-PAINT, you will need to have QuickTime® 3.0.2 or greater installed on your machine and have installed the associated animation filters from the CorelDRAW 9 Setup. Both of these filters are installed, by default, in a Typical CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition installation. An Installer for QuickTime® 3.0.2 is included on the CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition CD#1 and can be accessed from the Intro.exe located at the root of the CD. Movie compression schemes on File - Save Compression options are provided by your operating system and third party sources for the different movie file formats. Not all compression options will save the movie correctly if the width of the movie is an odd number of pixels. To avoid this problem, resample your movie so that the movie width is an even number of pixels. MOV format file with sound track It is not recommended to change the frame rate or number of frames for a MOV file which contains a sound track. Doing so may cause corruption of the sound track or the addition of extra frames at end of movie to extend the movie to the length of the sound track. QuickTime® 3.0.2 - MOV compression dialog in Asian localized operating systems QuickTime® 3.0.2 does not fully support Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, or Korean operating systems. Some of the text in the QuickTime® 3.0.2 MOV compression dialog is unreadable. Specifically, the drop down lists for the "Compressor", "Color depth" and "Frames per second" functions are affected. Clicking "Ok" in the dialog will still allow you to save the file using the default compression settings. Note: The QuickTime® MOV compression dialog appears when you save a QuickTime® MOV format file and is provided by QuickTime®. Newer versions of QuickTime® may provide better support for these operating systems. QuickTime® VR and Hot Spots To reduce the operating time (loading hot spot and linked object) when playing a panorama movie file in QuickTime®, we recommend that you create Hot Spot links from rectangular objects or non-rectangular objects without Anti-aliased edges. <H3>MICROSOFT® VISUAL BASIC® FOR APPLICATIONS (VBA)</H3> The Corel PHOTO-PAINT object model has only been partially implemented in this release. <H3>Asian Localization Issues</H3> Web Links on Asian versions of Windows 95 Update Links has been disabled for users of CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition running Asian versions of Windows 95. To manually update the links that appear under the menu option of Help, Corel On The Web you must open WEBLINKS.TXT file found under \GRAPHICS9\CONFIG\ folder. Simply change the HTTP address location to the right of the web location title. For example: FROM: &Corel Home Page http://product.corel.com/query.htm?topic=home TO: &Corel Home Page http://www.corel.com Japanese and Korean users The Italic and the Bold buttons are not available for all Japanese and Korean fonts. Bold is not available in CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT for Korean Windows 95. These are Windows specific issues. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="Corel 9"></A><A NAME="Corel Print Engine"></A>CorelDRAW® 9 Print Engine Readme Notes</H2> The default PostScript level for output from the CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition is Level 2. If you are experiencing PostScript errors on output, verify that your device supports PostScript Level 2 or higher. If your output device is PostScript 3 compliant, be sure to set the PostScript Level in DRAW to PostScript 3 to optimize RIP time. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="Corel Color Management and Scanning Readme"></A>CorelDRAW® 9 Color Management & Scanning Readme Notes</H2> Set your working color space to that of past CorelDRAW Suite versions when opening legacy files to ensure an accurate color match. Extracted profiles are saved in CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition's Color folder as filename.icm. This profile will show up in CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition's profile selection menus using its internal Manufacturer and Model tags. When selecting an ICC profile in the Profiles dialog, the description box will display the complete path and filename of the selected ICC profile. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="Corel Utilities 9"></A>CorelDRAW® 9 Utilities Readme Notes</H2> <H3>Bitstream® Font NavigatorÖ</H3> The version of Bitstream® Font NavigatorÖ included with this version of CorelDRAW 9 is not Double-Byte enabled. <H3>Canto® Cumulus® Desktop 4 LE</H3> CDR and CMX files are supported for versions 4 through 9. CPT files are supported for versions 7 through 9. Double click previews are support for CDR, CMX only. There is a limit of 5000 images per catalog. Only 2 catalogs may be open simultaneously. Corel Media folders are supported. Notes and Keywords assigned within Corel Media Folders are not maintained in Canto® Cumulus® Desktop LE 4. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="HEIDELBERG ColorOpen ICC LE Readme"></A>HEIDELBERG ColorOpen ICC LE Readme Notes</H2> ScanOpen ICC LE, ViewOpen ICC LE and PrintOpen ICC LE each give you an option to save your ICC profile to the Windows 'System' folder. When this option is enabled, the ICC profile will be saved to the Corel Color directory if CorelDRAW 9 Premium Color Edition is installed. With this option disabled, the ICC profile will be saved in the Windows 'System' folder. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="Visual Basic for Applications"></A>Visual Basic for Applications</H2> General Issues This version of CorelDRAW 9 includes Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications 6.0. With the increased benefits of this development environment comes some particular issues of which you should be aware. Visual Basic for Applications will not be installed in a Typical or Minimal Install. You must select Custom install and then select ôVisual Basic for Applications 6.0ö from the Productivity Tools category for it to be installed. Selecting this option will automatically install the Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications program files, as well as Internet Explorer 5. Internet Explorer 5 is installed in order to use the Digital Signature capabilities available within Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications. Please see the section ôDigital Signaturesö for more detail. Installing Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications requires administrator privileges on Windows NT 4.0. The release version of Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications 6.0, that is shipped with your copy of CorelDRAW 9, is not compatible with Microsoft® Office 2000® CPP (more commonly referred to as Beta copy). They are using Visual Basic for Applications 6.0 Beta 2, and it will not run with the release version of Visual Basic for Applications 6.0 installed. If you already have Microsoft® Office 2000® CPP installed, you must uninstall it in order to allow the release version of Visual Basic for Applications that ships with CorelDRAW 9 to install. Digital Signatures One of the new features available with Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications 6.0, is the integration of Digital Signature technology to assist in the prevention of unauthorized macro execution. To enable Digital Signatures in Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications, you must have installed Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher. For your convenience we have included Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5 (IE5) as part of our Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications setup. This option will be selected by default if you choose to install the Visual Basic for Applications component. You can deselect the IE5 portion of the setup, however if you do not have Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher on your system, you will not be able to use Digital Signatures in your Visual Basic for Applications projects. This installation of IE5 will install the Internet Explorer 5.0 Browser only. It will upgrade your current Internet Explorer 3 or Internet Explorer 4 browser to the latest IE5 version. However, it will not effect your other Internet Explorer applications, or any Netscape applications. So if you are running Netscape Navigator® and never manually launch IE5, it will not attempt to become you default browser. If you are running Microsoft® NT 4, you will have to have installed Service Pack 3 or higher, in order to install IE5. For our users who are using Microsoft® Internet Explorer in languages other than English, please note the following. In some cases where the appropriate language version of IE5 was not available, the English version was included instead. What this means is that if you have a French IE 4.01 and install our Digital Signatures using IE5, your browser will now become an English browser. If you wish to try and digitally sign projects, you can use the Selfcert.exe program found in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office directory. This program will allow you to create a self-signed certificate, which can then be used to digitally sign your Visual Basic for Applications project. Security Issues With the addition of Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications into CorelDRAW 9, the real world requirements for macro security become far more important. With the increase in benefits Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications provides for itÆs users, it also requires more diligent security efforts. It is impossible to be infected with a Microsoft® Word, Excel, PowerPoint® or Outlook® Visual Basic for Applications virus, while using CorelDRAW 9. These viruses are written specifically for the Microsoft® Office environment, and will not function in a CorelDRAW environment. However it is important to still remain aware that there are people who may try and write Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications viruses that will effect CorelDRAW users. CorelDRAW 9 will protect you from Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications viruses, provided the macro virus protection is turned on (this is the default setting). With the macro virus protection turned on, every time you receive a document that contains macros, a dialog box opens and allows you to choose whether to enable the macros. You should always disable macros when you are not certain of their purpose, functionality or their point of origin. By disabling macros that you do not trust, you will render them useless. They cannot infect your system unless you run them. An important enhancement to this procedure is to make sure you have installed Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher on your system. This will enable the Digital Signatures capabilities and will further increase, not only the protection available, but simplify the usage of macro security in general. For more information please select the ôScripts Onlineö menu item from your application's Tools menu. If you are unsure on what your security settings are, or wish to change them then do the following: 1. Click on the Tools menu, point to Visual Basic and then choose Security. 2. Select the level of security you want. High security will allow only macros that have been digitally signed and trusted to open. Unsigned macros will be automatically disabled. Medium security always brings up the macro dialog protection box that allows you to disable macros if you are unsure of the macros. Low will disable all security. (If you are concerned about viruses then by this time I hope you wouldn't pick low!!) Another important item in your security arsenal is your anti-virus software. Run the latest anti-virus software, and scan often. Also remember to keep your anti-virus software up to date by installing the latest signature files for that company. Global Macro Storage File CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT support what is called the GLOBAL MACRO STORAGE or GMS for short. This is basically a Visual Basic for Applications project that is specific to the application, and is always available when the application is active. This area provides the user with the location to store global macros for use throughout their application session. When you open the Visual Basic for Applications IDE, you will see a project called ôGlobalMacrosö. This is the Visual Basic for Applications project that is stored in the CorelDRAW9.GMS and in the PHOTO-PAINT9.GMS file. This project not only allows you to store forms, procedures, modules etc., but also contains events specific to the application. Some of these events will coincide with your document events. In cases such as this, the document event will be fired first and then the GlobalMacros event will be fired. CorelDRAW® & Corel PHOTO-PAINT® Object Models Those users familiar with Visual Basic operation will notice that the Visual Basic for Application enabled applications in CorelDRAW 9, have a variety of objects. Due to time constraints we were not able to properly document the entire CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT object models. You can see the organization of our object models by launching the VBA IDE (Alt-F11) and selecting the Object Browser (F2). From there select CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT to see the applications object model. For more information please click on ôScripts Onlineö in the Tools menu. This will take you to the CorelDRAW script specific web page on our web site. One of the more interesting objects in CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT is the Corel SCRIPT object. In order to ease the transition between a Corel SCRIPT enabled application and a Visual Basic for Applications enabled application we have created a Corel SCRIPT object. This object corresponds to the existing commands available to each application that were previously accessed through the Corel SCRIPT macro language. This will make is easier for existing Corel SCRIPT users to modify existing scripts, and to understand the syntax and parameters required to program the Corel SCRIPT object's methods. Users will control CorelDRAW 9 applications through VBA using the applications OLE Automation Type Library. This library is automatically referenced for the application that you launched Visual Basic for Applications from. In order to control other Corel applications you must manual reference these applications. Please see the Visual Basic for Applications on-line help for more information. Visual Basic for Applications Play Dialog CorelDRAW Visual Basic for Application projects are named ô ö by default. If you have more than one project open and attempt to run a macro, using the Visual Basic for Applications Play dialog, you will only see the first project's macros. This occurs due to a Visual Basic for Applications issue, in which Visual Basic for Applications does not distinguish between similarly named projects. Although you will see multiple instances of "VBAProject", they all actually point to the same physical project. You can get around this problem by selecting ôAll Standard Projectsö from the ôMacros In:ö drop down list. This selection will show you macros available in all projects. A better method is to make sure you name your individual projects to a unique identifier rather then the generic ôVBAProjectö. Other Applications with Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications If you open another application's file (such as Visio) that has a Visual Basic for Applications project embedded in it, that project will be discarded upon import. <A HREF="#Top">Back to top of document</A> <H2><A NAME="Corel Writing Tools"></A>Corel® Writing Tools</H2> The following Writing Tool languages are supported in CorelDRAW 9: Spell Checker: Afrikaans, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (US, UK, CE, OZ), Finnish, French (FR, CF), Galician, German (DE, SD), Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Sotho, Spanish (ES, EA), Swedish, Turkish, Tswana, Xhosa, Zulu Thesaurus: Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English (US), English (UK), Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish Grammatik: Dutch, English (US, UK, CE, OZ), German (DE, SD), French (FR, CF), Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish (ES, EA), Swedish Hyphenation: Afrikaans, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (US, UK, CE, OZ), Finnish, French (FR, CF), Galician, German (DE, SD), Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Sotho, Spanish (ES, EA), Swedish, Tswana, Xhosa, Zulu CorelDRAW 9.0 and Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 share common Writing Tool files and registry entries. For complete instructions, please refer to the topic 'Editing pictures in CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT' within Corel VENTURA 8 Help. In summary (from the aforementioned help file), 'the VectorEdit and BitmapEdit settings in the [EditIn] section of the VENTURA.INI file identify the CorelDRAW (VectorEdit) and Corel PHOTO-PAINT (BitmapEdit) versions that Corel VENTURA supports. You can find out what version of Corel products you are running by clicking Help, About. If you install new releases of CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT you should edit the [EditIn] section of the VENTURA.INI file. Insert the version number in the appropriate line after a semicolon.
