  89. NEW FEATURES IN PGP
  90.  
  91. 1.  PGPnet. PGPnet is a landmark product in the
  92.     history of PGP. PGPnet secures all TCP/IP
  93.     communications between the local machine and any 
  94.     other machine running PGPnet. PGPnet has been 
  95.     successfully tested with Cisco routers (requires 
  96.     Cisco IOS 12.0(4) or later with IPSec TripleDES). 
  97.  
  98. 2.  Self-Decrypting Archives. You may now encrypt
  99.     files or folders into Self-Decrypting Archives
  100.     (SDAs) that can be used by users who do not even
  101.     have PGP. The archives are completely independent
  102.     of any application, compressed and protected by
  103.     PGP's strong cryptography.
  104.  
  105. 3.  Integrated PGP Command Line. This version
  106.     incorporates the popular command line version of
  107.     PGP for Windows platforms. This product provides
  108.     a convenient way to integrate PGP with other 
  109.     Windows applications and automated processes
  110.     on your desktop system. Please note that this 
  111.     is intended for single user/workstation use. For 
  112.     use on servers, customers are required to purchase 
  113.     the PGP e-Business Server product. Please contact 
  114.     your local Network Associates Sales representative 
  115.     for more information.

  117. 4.  Automated Freespace Wiping. PGP's Freespace Wipe
  118.     feature now allows you to use the Windows Task
  119.     Scheduler to schedule periodic secure wiping 
  120.     of the free space on your disk.
  121.  
  122. 5.  Hotkeys. The Use Current Window feature has been
  123.     significantly enhanced by the addition of Hotkeys.
  124.     By using a configured key combination, the
  125.     Encrypt/Decrypt/Sign functions can be automatically
  126.     invoked without using PGPtray. This feature is very 
  127.     useful for users using messaging applications for 
  128.     which PGP does not currently have a plug-in, such 
  129.     as Netscape Messenger.
  130.  
  131. 6.  Fingerprint Word List. When verifying a PGP public
  132.     key fingerprint, you can now choose to view the
  133.     fingerprint as a word list instead of hexadecimal
  134.     characters. The word list in the fingerprint text
  135.     box is made up of special authentication words that
  136.     PGP uses and are carefully selected to be 
  137.     phonetically distinct and easy to understand 
  138.     without phonetic ambiguity.
  139.  
  140. 7.  Support for Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express 5.0.
  141.     This version of PGP adds support for sending and 
  142.     receiving encrypted email in Microsoft Outlook 2000 
  143.     and Outlook Express 5.0.
  144.  
  145. 8.  HTTP Proxy Support. If you are behind a 
  146.     firewall with an HTTP proxy server, PGP now 
  147.     supports accessing HTTP keyservers through the 
  148.     proxy.  To use this feature, you must configure 
  149.     the proxy server address in your Internet Explorer 
  150.     preferences.

  152. 9.  Smart Word Wrapping. The word wrapping in PGP now
  153.     automatically rewraps paragraphs and even quoted
  154.     paragraphs resulting in much cleaner signed 
  155.     messages.

  158. * PGP VERSION 6.5.2a ENHANCEMENTS *
  159.  
  160. 1. Support for Windows 2000 operating systems. This 
  161.    release of PGP introduces support for Microsoft's
  162.    latest releases of Windows. All PGP functionality is
  163.    available in Windows 2000 except PGPnet. PGPnet will 
  164.    support Windows 2000 in future releases of PGP.
  165.  
  166. 2. Windows 2000 IPSec interoperability. PGPnet 
  167.    running on non-Windows 2000 systems can establish 
  168.    VPN connections with the built-in Windows 2000 
  169.    IPSec client.  (The Windows 2000 system must be 
  170.    running the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack.)
  171.  
  172. 3. Intel Pentium III Random Number Generator (RNG) 
  173.    support. If your computer is equipped with the 
  174.    Intel RNG, PGP will use the random data generated by
  175.    the chip in addition to our own entropy collection 
  176.    whenever random data is needed for key generation 
  177.    and encryption. The Intel RNG is currently only 
  178.    available with select Pentium III chipsets, 
  179.    including the Intel 810 chipset.
  180.  
  181. 4. Automatic email plug-in pre-selection. PGP will now
  182.    automatically pre-select email plug-ins to install on
  183.    your system based on what messaging applications
  184.    are installed. Nevertheless, you are still 
  185.    able to change the selected plug-ins at install time.

  222. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  223.  
  224. To install PGP on a Windows 95, 98, 2000, or NT system,
  225. you must have:
  226.  
  227. - Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3/4/5
  228. - 32 MB RAM
  229. - 16 MB hard disk space for the client install
  230.  
  231. If you plan to run PGPnet on the system, you must 
  232. also have:
  233.  
  234. - Microsoft TCP/IP
  235. - A compatible LAN/WAN network adapter 
  236.  
  237. Note: PGPnet functionality is not available for 
  238. users of Windows 95a (the original release of
  239. Windows 95) or Windows 2000. PGPnet supports Windows 
  240. 95b (OSR2), Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0.
  241.

  243. KNOWN ISSUES
  244.  
  245. *PGP ISSUES*
  246.  
  247. 1.  Mismatching your keyring files can result in 
  248.     data loss. Your public keyring file and private 
  249.     keyring file must be kept in sync.  If, for 
  250.     instance, you select a public keyring file that
  251.     does not contain the public portion of your 
  252.     private key without also changing the private 
  253.     keyring to the corresponding file, you and 
  254.     others will not be able to encrypt to exported 
  255.     versions of your key after that time. In most 
  256.     cases, simply updating your key from a public 
  257.     copy on a keyserver will fix this.  However, it 
  258.     is recommended that the keyring files always be
  259.     kept in sync. A future version is expected 
  260.     to correct this issue.
  261.  
  262. 2.  Some PGP Versions 6.0 and later features are 
  263.     incompatible with previous versions of PGP, so 
  264.     we feature a "compatible" export format that 
  265.     strips incompatible features such as Photo IDs. 
  266.     Selecting "Include 6.X Extensions" in the 
  267.     Export dialog enables these features to be 
  268.     exported. By default, PGP exports in compatible 
  269.     mode. You may change the default in the Advanced 
  270.     Preferences dialog. When sending a key to a 
  271.     PGP Certificate Server Version 2.0 or above, 
  272.     Photo IDs always accompany the key. The default 
  273.     LDAP server in PGP 6.x supports this.
  274.  
  275. 3.  On Windows 95/98, the Free Space Wiper will 
  276.     reset every time another program writes to your 
  277.     disk while the wiping process is in progress. 
  278.     This is similar to defragmentation programs, 
  279.     and is required by the Operating System. For 
  280.     optimal wiping, make sure to close all open 
  281.     applications. On some systems with very low 
  282.     amounts of RAM, it may be advisable to also
  283.     shut down Windows Explorer.
  284.  
  285. 4.  The Windows Explorer provides PGP with 
  286.     information only about the target of a shortcut 
  287.     and not the shortcut itself. If you use the 
  288.     Wipe feature in the Explorer, the shortcut 
  289.     itself will not be wiped. The actual target 
  290.     will be wiped. When using PGPtools, the shortcut 
  291.     will also be wiped.
  292.  
  293. 5.  Hotkeys are for use with applications that 
  294.     support general text editing. Using Hotkeys 
  295.     with some applications may result in 
  296.     unpredictable behavior.  
  297.  
  298. 6.  The PGP Exchange/Outlook plugin does not support 
  299.     Microsoft Word as an email editor.
  300.  
  301. 7.  We strongly recommend that VirusScan users
  302.     upgrade to VirusScan Version 4.0.3 or later to
  303.     take advantage of the newest virus DAT file 
  304.     update features.
  305.  
  306.  
  307. * PGPNET ISSUES *
  308.  
  309. 1.  Do not attempt to manually uninstall PGPnet. 
  310.     It is very important that you use the PGP 
  311.     Uninstaller to remove PGPnet. PGPnet makes 
  312.     extensive modifications to the registry and 
  313.     changes the bindings on network adapters. 
  314.     The PGP Uninstaller can be accessed via the 
  315.     Add/Remove Programs control panel.
  316.  
  317. 2.  [Windows NT only]
  318.     As a precautionary measure, in the unusual 
  319.     event that there is a incompatibility between 
  320.     your network card driver and PGPnet, you can 
  321.     create a "No Networking" hardware profile 
  322.     prior to installing PGPnet on your system. 
  323.     The "No Networking" hardware profile can be 
  324.     used later if an incompatibility occurs.
  325.  
  326.     To create a "No Networking" hardware profile,
  327.     right click on "My Computer," select Properties,
  328.     and then select the Hardware Profiles tab. Use 
  329.     the Copy button to create a copy of the Original 
  330.     Configuration. Get Properties on your copied 
  331.     configuration and click the Network tab.
  332.     Finally, select the "Network-disabled hardware
  333.     profile" checkbox. Click OK to both windows 
  334.     and then you are done. (Due to a Windows bug 
  335.     we recommend that you restart once and 
  336.     double-check that the "No Networking" 
  337.     configuration is working before you
  338.     install PGPnet.)
  339.  
  340. 3.  [Windows 95 only]
  341.     You may experience a loss of networking after
  342.     resuming from standby mode. You must reboot 
  343.     your machine to resume network activity.
  344.  
  345. 4.  PGPnet is not compatible with the Intel 
  346.     EtherExpress 16 driver.   
  347.     
  348. 5.  Installing virtual private network software 
  349.     such as PGPnet on the same machine as a firewall
  350.     or another VPN client is highly likely to cause
  351.     problems. We recommend uninstalling the other
  352.     product prior to installing or choosing not to
  353.     install PGPnet on such a machine.
  354.  
  355. 6.  You cannot use the default MSN dialer to 
  356.     connect to MSN if PGPnet is installed.
  357.     To connect to MSN with PGPnet, use the Microsoft 
  358.     Dial-Up Networking client.
