Thank you for your interest in Backer 4.1!
------------------------------------------
CAUTION:
Norton Utilities reports that a file 32.dll is
missing. This is nonsense. Exit Norton Utilities
and you will see that Backer runs without a hitch.
You will find Backer extremely helpful with all
tasks related to files and directories on your
computer(s). Any computer that can run Windows
95/98 or Windows NT 4.0 can run Backer.
All users should read the Introduction in the
Online Help.
If you have already worked with previous versions
of Backer then switching will cause no problems.
If you are a new user please work through the
examples in the Online Help and use only the
"Express Setup" in the first time.
Installation
------------
For installation run SETUP.EXE.
HINT: If existing, deinstall an earlier version of
Backer 4 before installing this version, or choose
a different directory for the new installation. The
setup program will not overwrite existing files.
What's new in 4.1?
------------------
- Intelligent orphan handling
- Environment variables in the Destination
directory
- User name as a variation of the Destination
- Source directories with *
For details see Miscellaneous | Version History in
the online help.
Update from 4.0
---------------
The update from 4.0 to 4.1 is free for licensed
users. The license data are the same. When
starting, Backer 4.1 attempts to copy your existing
data. If that fails please do the following:
1. The license data for version 4.1 are expected in
the file "Backer41.ini".
2. The license data for version 4.0 are in the file
"Backer40.ini" in the directory of Backer 4.0. Copy
this file to the directory of Backer 4.1.
3. Rename the new copy of "Backer40.ini" to
"Backer41.ini".
4. Open Backer41.ini with Notepad and replace all
occurrences of "Workfile" with "Profile".
5. Start Backer 4.1.
