  7. ** FileNotes adds a column to the Windows Explorer 
  8. ** that will display the first 256 characters of 
  9. ** a note.  In order for this feature to work 
  10. ** correctly, you need to set the Windows Explorer 
  11. ** Options to display the full path name in the title
  12. ** bar and to not hide extensions for known file types.

  16. ** To determine if you need to upgrade your 
  17. ** COMCTL32.DLL you should install FileNotes.

  21. ** right click menu.  If the properties dialog 
  22. ** does not display correctly then you need to

  31. Whats New in Version 3.2
  32. 1.)    Fixed problems exhibited when coexisting 
  33.     with other monitoring utilities such as
  34.     anti-virus programs and    system monitor 
  35.     programs.
  36.  
  37. 2.)    Increased integration with Windows 95 
  38.     Shell.  This version adds a 
  39.     "FileNotes Brief" column to the Windows
  40.     Explorer that will display the first 
  41.     256 characters of an associated note.

  43. 3.)    FileNotes adds an interface to Explorer
  44.     Style Open/Save As dialogs.  Files and
  45.     folders with associated notes are tagged
  46.     with the FileNotes icon and when selected,
  47.     display the associated note.
  48.     The Save As dialog allows you to edit
  49.     or add notes when you save a file.

  51. 4.)    The FileNotes Configuration Utility allows
  52.     you to modify some of the settings for 
  53.     FileNotes.  Including whether or not to
  54.     display the FileNotes Monitor icon in the
  55.     system tray, whether or not to display
  56.     notes in the Windows Explorer and Explorer
  57.     Style dialogs.  The configuration utility
  58.     also allows you to cancel the automatic
  59.     file extensions that some applications add
  60.     when you save a file.

  62. Features and Limitations
  63. ------------------------
  64. FileNotes integrates with Windows 95 to
  65. allow you to keep notes about all your 
  66. files and folders.  You create and access
  67. all your notes through the Windows 95
  68. Explorer.  To access and create notes, 
  69. simply right click the mouse on any file 
  70. or folder.  FileNotes can be accessed by
  71. right clicking on any folder or file object
  72. on the system including the desktop and 
  73. file open dialog boxes.

  75. The notes that you create will follow 
  76. your files and folders whereever you copy
  77. them.  When you copy or move a file or 
  78. folder, the new files created will have 
  79. the same note as the original.

  81. When you use the Windows 95 Explorer to 
  82. delete a file, the note will follow the 
  83. file to the recycle bin so that if you 
  84. restore the file, the note will also be 
  85. restored.  Unfortunately, this version 
  86. will not preserve notes for folders that 
  87. are sent to the recycle bin.

  89. FileNotes includes the FileNotes Explorer 
  90. that allows you to quickly find, review, 
  91. add and update your notes.  The FileNotes 
  92. Explorer can be accessed from either the 
  93. Start | Programs menu or from the Windows 
  94. Explorer right click menu.

  96. This version of FileNotes does not support 
  97. short file names.  This means that when you 
  98. move or copy files and folders in a DOS box, 
  99. you must use the long file name if you want 
  100. your notes to follow your files and folders.  
  101. Remember that if your long file name has a 
  102. space in it you must put double quotes around 
  103. it.  Also note that the short and long filenames 
  104. are the same for files with names within the 8.3
  105. format.
