  20. This release is contained on several floppies or on a CD-ROM.

  22. All Readiris files are compressed; they are expanded by the Readiris in-
  23. stallation program; to install the software, it makes no sense to copy
  24. manually the files which you find on the floppies or the CD-ROM.

  28. 2. Support of "foreign" languages

  31. Windows 3.1x and Windows 95 are limited to 8 bit character tables. This
  32. technical jargon actually means that Windows must be configured properly
  33. to support the symbol set of certain "exotic" languages.
  34.  
  35. Readiris is perfectly capable of recognizing these characters correctly,
  36. but Windows cannot represent them correctly on the screen. During the in-
  37. teractive phase, you'd be unable of entering a corrected special charac-
  38. ter, you would see the correct result on the screen etc.

  40. A. Windows 3.1x
  41. ----------------

  43. It takes the Eastern-European version of Windows 3.1 to really read
  44. Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian etc. texts. You need the Cyrillic lo-
  45. calization of Windows 3.1x to read Russian, Serbian, Byelorussian etc.,
  46. as you need a Greek licence of Windows 3.1x to read Greek texts.

  51. Install the software module "Multilingual Support" of Windows 95 to fix
  52. this configuration problem.

  54. Unfortunately, this software module is not included on every licence of
  55. Windows 95. You can get it from your Microsoft dealer, or download from
  56. the Microsoft web site.

  65. 4. Connect macros for Word and Excel 7.0 (Windows 95)

  68. The Connect macros for Word and Excel 7.0 are not included in demo ver-
  69. sions of Readiris!

  71. For retail versions of Readiris, the Connect macros for Word 7.0 and Ex-
  72. cel 7.0 - designed for Windows 95 - are included.

  74. The installation procedure of Readiris automatically installs the files
  75. CONNECT7.DOC (Word 7.0) and CONNECT7.XLM (Excel 7.0) in the Readiris fol-
  76. der.

  78. However, there are some additional steps to be executed which no instal-
  79. lation program can take care of. What these steps are is described in de-
  80. tail in the Readiris on-line help system.

  82. To make things easier for you, the topic of the on-line help of Readiris
  83. is displayed automatically at the end of the installation program.

  85. Be sure to use the files CONNECT7.DOC and CONNECT7.XLM; the files
  86. CONNECT6.DOC (Word 6.0) and CONNECT4.XLM (Excel 4.0) are used for Word
  87. 6.0 and Excel 4.0.
