  2. We split Quake Shareware into files that will fit on 1.44 mb floppies so 
  3. you can copy each file to a disk for backup purposes, or to give to a 
  4. friend who doesn't have internet access (just in case you need someone 
  5. to beat on in deathmatch). All seven disks are required to install 
  6. Quake.
  7. ** Getting the full Shareware Version 1.06:
  8. The filenames for the 7 disks are: qsw106_1.zip to qsw106_7.zip.
  9. Alternatively you can download one huge .zip file (8.54 megs) called 
  10. quake106.zip. Regardless of which file(s) you choose to download, the 
  11. installation process is the same for both. 
  12. 1. Copy the/all .zip file(s) to a \temp directory. 
  13. 2. Unzip the file(s). 
  14. 3. Run the file 'install.bat'from the \temp directory and follow the 
  15. directions from there.
  16. ** Getting the Patch to upgrade existing Shareware or Registered v1.01 
  17. to v1.06: If you already have v1.01 Shareware OR Registered, you can 
  18. download the patch 1.01 to 1.06 here. To patch your existing version, 
  19. you should copy this file (q101-106.zip) to your \quake directory. Then 
  20. upzip it, and answer 'y' to overwrite the existing file 'quake.exe'. 
  21. Once it is finished unzipping, run the file 'patch.exe' from this same 
  22. directory. Once you are sure it worked, you can delete the q101-106.zip 
  23. and patch.exe files if you want to.
  24. Here is a list of the fixes and changes in the v1.06 release.
  25. If you already have v 1.01, you can download the patch from 1.01 to 1.06
