-
- 1.1 About File Manager Toolbar
- -----------------------------
-
- FM Toolbar is an extender of File Manager for Microsoft(R)
- Windows(tm) 3.1, 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups(tm) 3.11.
-
- Chaosoft Toolbar is an attractive alternative to the native
- Windows toolbar. Fully user- customizable, it provides about
- twice as many buttons, support for MS Tools, handy 'tooltips'
- for novice users (a'la toolbar for Word and Excel).
-
- "File Manager Toolbar brings the most basic Windows element -
- the toolbar - to File Manager, giving you one-touch response to
- common tasks ... one simple answer to the problem ... nifty
- little program ... it's worth the download."
-
- - Computer Shopper, 11/94
-
- FM Toolbar is a great timesaver. Statistics shows that toolbar
- for File Manager is one of two main reasons why individual
- users of Windows 3.1 upgrade to Windows for Workgroups (the
- other reason is slightly improved performance). FM Toolbar is
- an alternative, effective and inexpensive way to upgrade your
- system. FM Toolbar will save you a great deal of time! With FM
- Toolbar your will work with File Manager easier and faster.
-
- Try it - You won't believe how you were able to work without FM
- Toolbar.
-
- The way software should be!
-
- 1.2. What's new in the current version
- ----------------------------------
-
- - ability to customize (add/remove buttons) added;
- - tooltips a'la toolbar for Word or Excel implemented;
- - documentation revised and updated;
- - more registration options introduced, including 'bill me
- later';
-
- Bug(s) fixed:
-
- "Undefined function AllocPtr in module CSL*.DLL"
-
- Ver.1.7:
-
- - You can set up your own word instead of 'Toolbar' in the main
- menu;
-
- Ver.1.6 :
-
- - A compatibility with NDW problem resolved.
- - Documentation updated.
-
- Ver.1.5 :
-
- - New SETUP utility - you can activate/deactivate FM Toolbar
- whenever you wish; you can quickly take a look at the software
- without actually installing it onto a hard disk or network
- drive; etc.
-
- - Completely updated documentation; on-line context-sensitive
- Help; new command 'Register/Unregister'.
-
- No changes to previous code made since no bugs were found or
- reported!
-
- Ver.1.0 : The first release of the software.
-
- If you have registered any previous version of the FM Toolbar, you
- can upgrade to the current version FREE. To register your copy of
- FM Toolbar, use the same Registration Code as you used for Ver 1.0
-
- 1.3 How to use the documentation
- --------------------------------
-
- Complete information about FM Toolbar, including the installation
- procedure, how to get updates, how to register your copy,
- troubleshooting hints, answers to frequently asked questions,
- etc., is available in Windows Help format, file FMTB.HLP.
-
- If you have already installed FM Toolbar, access the information
- by choosing Toolbar | Help from File Manager menu.
-
- Or, double click the 'FM Toolbar Help' icon in the 'FMToolbar'
- program group created after automatic installation.
-
- Or, choose command 'Run' from Program Manager or File Manager main
- menu, and enter the full name (including complete path) of the
- FMTB.HLP file. For example, if you have placed the FM Toolbar
- files into directory C:\TEMP on your hard disk, enter the following
- string in the 'Run' dialog box:
-
- C:\TEMP\FMTB.HLP
-
- and click OK button.
-
- Yet another way to view the file is to open the directory window
- with the File Manager and double click filename FMTB.HLP with the
- mouse.
-
- 1.4. THIS IS SHAREWARE: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY !
- --------------------------------------------
- This is NOT free or public domain software. This is SHAREWARE,
- i.e., copyrighted software which you can "try before you buy".
-
- You may try the program for evaluation period of up to 14 days.
- After that time, you are required to purchase the software through
- registration or else discontinue its use. (Please read the License
- agreement in the VENDINFO.DIZ file for details).
-
- When you pay for the shareware you like, you are voting with your
- pocketbook for the future of computer industry - high quality
- software which you can try before you buy. Your payment will
- encourage us to bring you more of the same kinds of products.
-
- What is the difference between
- the Registered and Unregistered versions?
- -----------------------------------------
- There are NO differences between registered and unregistered
- versions of this software. Actually, it's the same program: you
- may convert an unregistered copy into the registered one by entering
- a registration code. Similarly, a registered copy of the program
- may be "unregistered" by deleting the registration code or by just
- copying the program to another machine.
-
- Unregistered copies of this software are 100% fully functional. We
- make it this way so that you can have a real look at the program,
- and decide whether it fits your needs or not. However, if you
- continue using our software beyong the evaluation period not
- paying for it, don't expect the program to maintain its original
- functionality: _some_ (non-essential) features _may_ become
- disabled. We provide you with an opportunity to extend the
- evaluation period (if you need more time to decide whether you
- want to keep this program or not), but we cannot afford to let you
- use all the features for free all the time. It would simply be
- unfair in respect to our customers who do register shareware and
- pay for it. We appreciate your understanding of this policy.
-

-

- registration reminder and put your name in the 'About' screen.

- //
- // 2. INSTALLING File Manager Toolbar
- //
- ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
-
- Unlike most other Windows applications, FM Toolbar is not a
- stand-alone program; there is no special executable file you would
- run to start the FM Toolbar. To use FM Toolbar, all you need is to
- properly install it, and it will run automatically every time you
- run File Manager.
-
- 2.1. Using Setup utility
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- FM Toolbar comes with convenient and flexible SETUP utility. Use
- SETUP if you want to temporarily activate/deactivate the software
- or install it onto your hard disk or network drive for permament
- use.
-
- 2.1.1. HOW TO QUICKLY TRY OUT THE SOFTWARE
- ------------------------------------------
-
- If you obtained FM Toolbar on a diskette or CD-ROM and
- want to take a look at the utility without installing it onto
- your hard disk, run SETUP.EXE from the FM Toolbar directory on the
- diskette or CD-ROM and choose the 'Activate' button when prompted.
-
- - to run SETUP.EXE, choose File | Run from main menu of Program
- Manager or File Manager and type into the 'Run' dialog box:
-
- A:\TOOLBAR\SETUP.EXE
-
- (assuming that the diskette is inserted into the 'A' floppy
- drive)
-
- After that, run File Manager. You should see a new item in the
- main menu, Toolbar (If there is no such an item, FM Toolbar has
- not been activated; see information below in this file for
- possible reasons.) Of course, be sure that the diskette or CD with
- FM Toolbar is available during the loading of File Manager!
-
- Now, if you see that FM Toolbar is not what you need, just run
- SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. Your system will
- forget all about FM Toolbar!
-
- On the other hand, if you want to give the program a longer try
- and wish to install it onto your hard disk or network drive,
- choose the 'Install' button when SETUP.EXE prompts you. Please see
- the next section for more information.
-
- 2.1.2. Installing on a hard disk or network drive
- -------------------------------------------------
-
- If you have already copied all the files from the FM Toolbar
- package onto your hard disk (for instance, you have extracted the
- files from an archive), run SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Activate'
- button.
-
- If you don't have the FM Toolbar files on the hard disk, choose
- 'Install' button instead. Then, enter the path to the directory
- where you want FM Toolbar to be installed. In this case, SETUP.EXE
- will copy all the files to the new location and then activate
- them. In addition, you will be prompted to create a separate
- program group for FM Toolbar. It's not essential to have such a
- group, but it may be convenient. In any case, the last word is
- yours!
-
- 2.1.3. Uninstalling FM Toolbar
- -----------------------------
-
- To prevent File Manager from loading and using FM Toolbar, run
- SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. If you decide to
- start using FM Toolbar later on, run SETUP.EXE and choose
- 'Activate'.
-
- Otherwise, to completely remove FM Toolbar from your system,
- deactivate it with the SETUP.EXE utility (see above) and remove
- all the files from directory on your hard disk or network drive
- where you have installed FM Toolbar. In addition, delete program
- group 'FMToolbar' from the Program Manager, if your created it
- during installation.
-
- 2.2. Registering your copy of FM Toolbar
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Sometimes, FM Toolbar displays a registration reminder, and the
- "About FM Toolbar" screen reads 'Unregistered copy'. If you have
- registered FM Toolbar and obtained your personal Registration Code
- from us, you may use it to prevent the registration reminder from
- being displayed and enter your name in the 'About FM Toolbar'
- screen. Choose 'Register' from the 'Toolbar' submenu of File
- Manager and when a dialog box pops up, enter your name (exactly as
- it appears in your Registration Acknowledgment) and the
- Registration Code.
-
- Be sure to enter your name EXACTLY as it's written in the
- Registration Acknowledgment, including all the spaces, punctuation,
- and entering letters in proper case (upper or lower). If you wish
- your name to be spelled differently, please let us know and we'll
- assign a new registration code.
-
- 2.3. Manual installation/deinstallation
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- If the automatic installation fails for any reason, you may install
- FM Toolbar manually as follows:
-
- 1. Create a directory for FM Toolbar on your hard disk, say
- C:\TOOLBAR, and copy all the files from the FM Toolbar
- installation disk into that directory. If you obtained the FM
- Toolbar files compressed in an archive, extract all the files
- from it.
-
- 2. Close File Manager.
-
- 3. Open file WINFILE.INI for editing (using Notepad or any other
- text editor). This file is located in the WINDOWS directory on
- your hard disk (or the directory you specified when installing
- Windows). Please note: the file you need is WINFILE.INI, *not*
- WIN.INI.
-
- Find the section [AddOns] in this file and enter the following
- string right after the string [AddOns]:
-
- FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
-
- (or specify the directory you copied FM Toolbar's files into,
- if other than TOOLBAR).
-
- The resulting portion of the WINFILE.INI should look like
- this:
-
- ...
- [AddOns]
- FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
- ...
-
- (... means other lines of the file). Save the file.
-
- 4. Run File Manager.
-
- If the installation has been completed successfully, you should
- see a new menu item, Toolbar, among the other items of the File
- Manager's main menu. If you cannot see the Toolbar item in the
- main menu of File Manager, an error has occurred. Please verify
- that you have done all the steps above, and, in particular, have
- specified the correct path in the [AddOns] section of the
- WINFILE.INI file. Also, make sure that the files have not been
- corrupted when they were copied onto your hard disk (Each file
- should be the same size as each file on the installation diskette)
-
- To manually uninstall FM Toolbar:
-
- 1. Close File Manager and remove the line 'FM Toolbar=...' from
- the WINFILE.INI file (using Notepad, for example). After that,
- when you restart File Manager, FM Toolbar will not be loaded.
- If you decide later to start using FM Toolbar again, type the
- string 'FM Toolbar=...', specifying the complete DOS path to
- the FMTB.DLL file, in the [AddOn] section of the WINFILE.INI
- file.
-
- The following steps should be completed only if you wish to
- remove the FM Toolbar from your system permanently:
-
- 2. Delete all the files from the directory on your hard disk where
- you installed FM Toolbar;
-
- 3. Delete program group 'FMToolbar' in the Program Manager window,
- if there is one.
-
- We hope you'll change your mind!
