--- Installing FAXmaker for Networks ---
FAXmaker has now been installed to a directory on your network, to which all clients and the fax server must have access. A brief system overview is given in the help file. (FAXmaker, system overview - first topic). You must now create a share/mapping for the FAXmaker directory which starts before FAXmaker - i.e. in case of the default suggestion - c:\apps. This would ensure that clients have access to the faxmaker directory from c:\apps onwards.
After installation of FAXmaker, you must be sure to install the FAXmaker printer driver following the printer driver installation instructions below. The printer driver is used to send out coverpages, and therefore you will need to do this before you send a fax.
-- Installing the faxmaker printer driver on Windows NT 4 server
Go to the Add printer wizard located in the printers folder in the control panel. P.S. You may need your Windows NT 4 install disks at hand.
1. Start Add Printer
2. Select 'My Computer'
3. Select Next
4. Select any unused port from the list.
5. Select Next.
6. The printer selection dialog will appear. Select 'Have Disk'
7. Enter the path to the FAXmaker NT driver directory; namely \faxmaker\client\program\winnt4.
8. Choose O.K.
9. Verify FAXmaker printer driver appears in Printer dialog.
10. Choose Next.
11. The Add Printer wizard will prompt you to insert the Windows NT 4 CD ROM. However, if you have an English installation, you can simply delete i386 from the path that is prompted and use the files supplied by the FAXmaker install.
Click OK to continue.
12. You may choose to use FAXmaker as you default printer driver.
13. Choose Next.
14. Choose not shared.
15. Choose Next.
16. Do not print a test page.
17. Choose finish.

Use the Print Manager Create Printer option from the Printer menu. To create a printer, you must be logged on as member of the Administrators, server Operators, Print Operators, or Power Users group.
1. Start the print manager from the control panel or main group.
2. From the Printer menu, choose Create Printer.
3. In the Printer Name box, type FAXmaker.
4. Install the FAXmaker printer driver by selecting "Other" in the Driver box.
5. The Install Driver dialog box pops up. Specify the drive and path where the windows NT client installers we're copied. By default this is;
\faxmaker\client\program\winnt35.
6. Select O.K.
7. The Select Driver dialog box pops up. Select the FAXmaker driver and choose the OK button. The driver will now be installed by FAXmaker.
8. In the Print To box, Select any unused port.
9. In the Create Printer dialog box, choose the OK button.
10. Print manager automatically displays a dialog box allowing you to set up the features of your printer. There is no need to change any of these options.
11. The FAXmaker printer driver is now installed.
--- Installing the faxmaker printer driver on a windows 95 machine
Run the client installation program located in the faxmaker\client\install\win95 directory.
- Creating users in the system -
To add more than 1 user, you will need to be in possession of a registration number, which is on the license envelope. This can be entered in the registration dialog.
Do not start the server or install the clients before you have created at least one user.
- Starting the server -
After creating users in the system you can start the server. The first time you start the server it will search for connected modems. Most class 2 compatible modems are supported, as well as class 2.0 (US robotics - 32 bit only). For a list of GFI approved modems please check our web site.
If your modem is class 1 only, check the web site for an updated driver. GFI FAX & VOICE aims to support class 1 fax modems by mid December. The URL to go to is;

- Installing the clients on the user's workstations -
- IMPORTANT - Before running the client setup program, ensure that your drive mappings are in order. The client must have access to the FAXmaker directory, using the correct drive mapping. For example, if you installed FAXmaker to drive k:\faxmaker, and indicated that your client path would be k:\faxmaker, make sure that this drive mapping is present. You can do this from file manager or explorer.
To install the clients, go to the FaxMaker\client\install directory. You will see installation programs for DOS, Windows 3.1, 95 and NT. Go to the appropriate directory (DOS, WIN31, WIN95, WINNT), and run setup.exe. After installing the clients, you will be ready to send faxes!
NT 4 beta is not supported as a client! GFI will release an NT 4 driver within 30 days of shipment of the final NT 4 version.

LAST MINUTE NOTES
--- Checking modem compatibility
GFI does not recommend using class 1 modems as fax server devices. If you wish
to use a particular modem, you must check whether it is a class 2 or 2.0 compatible
You can do this by issueing the AT+FCLASS=? command in terminal. If it returns 2 or
2.0 as one of the supported modes, it is either class 2 or class 2.0 compatible.
If it returns only 0 and 1, check the web site for an updated driver. GFI FAX & VOICE
aims to support class 1 fax modems by mid December. The URL to go to is;

--- Running the client and server on the same computer with different paths.
If you plan to run the client and server on the same machine, you have to consider
create an additional drive mapping on the fax server so that the client path is
correct. This can be done easily in Windows NT, but in Windows 95 you must either
edit the client path for the user that will run the fax server and make the client
path and user path the same for that user. If this user also accesses the Default
mailbox, who must change this too. Alternatively, install FAXmaker to a directory
which the server and the client access as the same drive.
--- Tips on using the RTF cover page feature
When designing your cover page in RTF format, please take note of the following;
a. To preview your cover page as a fax, use the rtf2fax program located in the
\faxmaker\system directory
b. Remember that RTF does not support tables and headers/footers
c. Remember that merge fields are replace by the actual field values. Therefore, if
you do not leave sufficient space, long names can mix up your formatting.
d. Use the 8,5 by 11 inch paper format in page setup
--- Use Purge Delete function of Administrator regularly or use Autopurge
Performance can be significantly improved by keeping the FAXmaker message databases
compact. To do this regularly delete obsolete faxes, either using the archiver or by
allowing the users to do this themselves.
In addition be sure to run the 'Purge Delete' function in the Administrator, so that
all deleted events are removed from the database and the database is re-indexed. Do this
regularly to keep FAXmaker's performance optimal.
You may also use the mserver's auto-purge feature by including the following in the
mserver.ini (located in the faxmaker\system directory) under the heading [FaxMaker Server]
PurgeOn=1
PurgeTime=03:00:00
Where PurgeOn means autopurge on, and Purgetime means the time (default 3 O'clock at night).
----- Installing the mserver as a service
The mserver can run as a service providing you do not need the Printer redirection
feature. This feature will not work when you run the mserver as a service. When
using AUTO-PRINT, be sure to allow the system to print! (in security rights)
If you have installed FAXmaker and need to de-install it, or if you are installing
the mserver after a failed installation, please be sure to delete the registry key
of the service and reboot, prior to reinstalling the service. Delete the
following registry key;

----- SECURITY issues
FAXmaker will not allow 'normal' users to open other
mailboxes, however to secure unauthorised viewing of faxes, you must use
your network's security features to dis - allow access to the faxmaker\system
and faxmaker\mailbox directory, with the exception of the
faxmaker\mailbox\<username> directory. This can be done easily
with your network's administrator program (SYSCON or NT File manager).
Also, the administrator is stored in the system directory. You must ensure
that nobody has access to this directory, except the fax server and the fax
administrator.
--- Installing and ISDN board as a fax device
To use an ISDN-board, Faxmaker needs an ISDN-interface provided by your ISDN board
manufacturer. This DLL is the interface between Windows and the ISDN board. It is used
by faxmaker to send and receive faxes. Usually, the dll is called 'CAPI2032.DLL'.
In case it has another name, faxmaker has to know it. You can do this by changing the
mserver.ini file located in the <faxmaker>\system directory by changing
[Capi20]
DllName=CAPI2032.DLL
into
[Capi20]
DllName=<dllname to be used>
Be sure that this dll is installed in your windows\directory or windows\system directory.
---- DDE client support
The FAXmaker client supports the DDE interface, as described in fmdde.txt located in the
faxmaker\client\program directory. Normal.dot, located in the same directory is a word file
with a sample how to use the DDE. For more samples, plse visit our web site.
---- Adjusting DTMF routing to your DID unit.
You can adjust the time out value of DTMF routing (useful if you want to adjust
the value to your DID-PBX). This can be done from the Mserver.ini located in the
Faxmaker\system directory. The value is called DTMFWaitTimeOut, and is set in
seconds. The value is set per port, so you can adjust it per line/modem.

S1Q3 Auto print won't work when running FAXmaker as a service
Any service needs to be granted the appropriate rights to be able to submit
a print job. To have FAXmaker print automatically as a service, grant printing
rights to the system. To do this, start the NT printer manager, go the the
security menu and activate the permissions dialog. From add 'System'.
S1Q4 DTMF routing causes error when answering calls
To enable DTMF routing you must use a Rockwell compatible voice modem.
If you use a standard fax modem and switch on dtmf routing, you will create
an error message when FAXmaker receives the next fax. Therefore, if you
receive the error, it is possible that you do not have a voice modem or it
is not rockwell compatible.
S1Q5 How do I know if I have a rockwell voice compatible modem?
Issue the command AT+FCLASS=? From terminal. If it returns 8
(amongst other numbers), then you have a rockwell voice compatible modem.
S1Q8 Print redirection won't recognise number from PCL file.
Be sure that you are using the appropriate embedding codes (They differ
between 16 & 32 bit server versions). For the 32 bit server use !$ followed
by !. Furthermore, the PCL driver that you are using must not use any HPGL
commands, nor must "Print as truetype graphics" be switched on.
Do not forget that print redirection is only meant for machines running DOS
or Windows 3.1 - finding the number will not work when a document has been
printed from a Windows 95 or NT printer driver.
S1Q9 Faxes can't be routed via e-mail using MS Mail included in NT 3.5/3.51.
The MS mail application included with Windows NT 3.51 is not MAPI compliant.
The MAPI 1.0 standard was only introduced during the release of Windows 95,
and consequently, MAPI compatibility is only available for Windows NT 4,
or by upgrading your MS Mail to MS Exchange.
S1Q10 FAXmaker client says - User not listed in user database.
This error message indicates that you are not listed in the user database
- either because you are actually not listed, or because your FAXmaker user
name differs from your network login name. FAXmaker retrieves the user's
login name from the Workstation (To avoid users having to login twice),
and therefore you must ensure that network login name is exactly as it
is when you login into your OS or network.
S1Q11 Can't access phonebook
This message appears when the client has difficulty locating the phonebooks.
Usually the phonebook has been deleted or the drive mapping to the phonebook
file has been changed or removed. To correct this, check phonebook entry in
the fmuser.ini (from user menu in administrator or from the user's
mailbox directory).
S1Q12 Can't access default mailbox
This message appears when the client has difficulty locating the default
mailbox. Usually the the drive mapping to the default mailbox has been
changed or is incorrect. To correct this, check client path entry in the
administrator. IMPORTANT - remember that other users might be accessing
the default mailbox as well - be sure that whilst change the path to the
default mailbox to suit your use, that you are not disallowing access to
