  1.                 Download Java WorkShop: Windows NT/Windows 95

  5.                 Some important notes before you begin:
  6.  
  7.                    * The Java WorkShop is compatible only with version
  8.                      3.51 of Windows NT.
  9.                    * The minimum display resolution that works properly
  10.                      with the WorkShop is 800x600.
  11.                    * A specially modified version of the Java
  12.                      Developer's Kit (JDK) is included with the
  13.                      WorkShop. This version of the JDK is required in
  14.                      order to use the Dev 6 release.
  15.                    * The file system you are using must support long
  16.                      file names (as opposed to the 8.3 format).

  18.                 The following steps lead you through the process of
  19.                 downloading the release from the server and installing
  20.                 it on your Windows NT/Windows 95 system.
  21.  
  22.                   1. Be sure your system has enough free disk space to
  23.                      accommodate the compressed files, uncompressed
  24.                      files, and space required by the setup program:
  25.                         o 7 Mbytes -- Java WorkShop files (compressed)
  26.                         o 15 Mbytes -- Java WorkShop files
  27.                           (uncompressed)
  28.                         o 7 Mbytes of space required by the setup
  29.                           program (must be in the same directory as the
  30.                           compressed files).

  32.                      On systems that use the FAT file system, disk space
  33.                      usage can vary considerably depending on the
  34.                      cluster size. In the worst case--a 1 Gbyte
  35.                      uncompressed disk (or logical volume), the cluster
  36.                      size is 32 Kbytes. This means that that every file,
  37.                      regardless of size, is allocated 32 Kbytes. On
  38.                      systems with the 32 Kbyte cluster size, Java
  39.                      WorkShop uses approximately 66 Mbytes.

  41.                   2. After the software has been downloaded, run the
  42.                      downloaded executable setupws.exe to decompress and
  43.                      install the Java WorkShop:

  47.                      Follow the on-screen setup program instructions.
  48.  
  49.                   3. You can verify that the installation was successful
  50.                      by running the following program from a DOS comand
  51.                      prompt:

  53.                      <install_dir_path>\JWS\intel-win32\bin\ivp
  54.  
  55.                 If necessary, you can uninstall the WorkShop using the
  56.                 Uninstall icon in the program group, or from the
  57.                 Windows95 control panel.
