  71. This package contains the CONTACT PLUS (R) PERSONAL 97 by CONTACT
  72. PLUS CORPORATION. This document contains only a brief description along
  73. with instructions for its installation.  Detailed documentation is
  74. included in the package, but it is in archived form, and is more easily
  75. read after installation.

  77. Innovatively designed, Contact Plus helps you build relationships with
  78. your important clients, customers, and associates through efficient
  79. organization of your contact information and time.  Even if you have to
  80. send dozens of personalized letters or email messages Conact Plus
  81. Personal 97 quickly takes care of your correspondence. If you've been
  82. using a conventional  phone book, PIM, rolodex or other simple name and
  83. address book program then Contact Plus Personal 97 is for you.

  85. Contact Plus Personal offers  more features than the conventional PIM,
  86. while keeping the program simple for the average computer user.  You can
  87. keep your contacts organized into multiple databases.  You may have a
  88. personal database of your softball team, a database of interested
  89. clients for your business, a database of the members of the choir and
  90. want to keep all of this information in one standard place.

  93. includes the timezones, area codes and distances between you and your
  94. contacts.

  96. Contact Plus Personal 97 provides an intuitive easy to use way of keep
  97. track of your contacts, letters to each contact, notes, phone calls,
  98. meetings, to-dos, etc.

  101. e-mail.  Or you can do a mass mailing via e-mail.  E-mail requires a MAPI
  102. compliant serve such as MicroSoft Exchange or Eudora Pro.

  105. the examples for more information.

  107. A complete history of all contacts such as letters, phone calls,
  108. meetings is stored perpetually for each contact.  Never forget an
  109. appointment as alarms can be set in advance of your meetings.  Drag and
  110. drop capability on the calendars make scheduling a breeze.

  112. Contact Plus Personal 97 is a shareware program.  This evaluation version
  113. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  114. You may use it for up to 30 days without charge. If you like the program,
  115. and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you are
  116. required to pay for the program. Any fee you may have paid to others
  117. (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation version was a fee

  147. ===== Installation =====================================
  148.  
  149. The installation procedure for Contact Plus Personal 97 is quite simple.
  150. The package includes a program, "SETUP.EXE", which automates the entire
  151. process.  You will need about 7 megabytes of available disk space on the
  152. hard drive on which you plan to install Contact Plus Personal 97.
  153.  
  154. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  155. Contact Plus Personal 97.
  156.  
  157. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  158.  
  159. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  160.  
  161.    o  Place the distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the
  162.       appropriate diskette drive.
  163.  
  164.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  165.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A: from
  166.       Program Manager run the command: "A:\SETUP".
  167.  
  168.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  169.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  170.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  171.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  172.       the files to that directory.  If you received the product
  173.       on more than one diskette, you will need to insert subsequent
  174.       diskettes when asked to do so.

  177. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  178.  
  179. If you downloaded Contact Plus Personal 97 from a BBS (or received it in
  180. the form of archive files from some other source), you will need to
  181. perform the following steps.
  182.  
  183.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  184.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  185.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  186.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  187.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  188.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  189.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  190.       the package.
  191.  
  192.    o  Execute the "SETUP.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  193.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  194.       the <product> package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the
  195.       command, "c:\tempdir\SETUP".

  197.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  198.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  199.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  200.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  201.       the product files to that directory.  If you so direct it, the
  202.       installation program will install executable programs and
  203.       documentation in other directories of your choice.

  205. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  206. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed the product
  207. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  210. DATABASE ENGINE INSTALLATION
  211.  
  212. Contact Plus Personal 97 uses the 32-bit Borland Database Engine.  This
  213. is a powerful database engine that can be used by other applications.  It
  214. should be installed in your C: drive as Borland recommends.  The database
  215. engine consumes about 3.5 Megabytes.
  216.  
  217. The database engine is automatically installed when SETUP is run.  Do
  218. not delete the database engine since it is necessary to run Contact Plus
  219. Personal successfully.
  220.  
  221. Note that the default settings for the Borland Database Engine is
  222. 'paradox ascii'.  If you are working in a language other than english
  223. you may change the default by running the BDECFG32.EXE program.
  224.  
  225. UNINSTALLATION
  226.  
  227. To uninstall, go to Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.  You
  228. will see Contact Plus Personal 97 as one of the choices.  Click on the
  229. remove button.

  231. The uninstallation program will also uninstall the Borland Database
  232. Engine.

  234. YOU'RE READY TO GO

  236. Once you've complete the installation, you should consult the help files
  237. which have been installed.

  239. If you decide that Contact Plus Personal 97 is not for you there is an
  240. automatic uninstall procedure which will remove all installed files
  241. restoring your system to it's state before the install.
