- Changing page layout
- UPage layout includes a document
- s page background (such as headers and footers) and
- bcolumn layout. When you create a document from a
- template
- , the document contains page
- .layout instructions provided by the template.
- fOther than customizing a
- header
- and footer
- , you usually don
- t have to change page layout.
- SAs you fill a page with text, FrameMaker creates a new page, using the appropriate
- .master page for column layout and background.
- LTo customize a document
- s layout, use the FrameMaker page layout features.
- XTo change a document
- s column layout and text flow, use the
- Column
- Layout
- <Column
- Connections
- , and
- commands.
- \To change the master page used for a body page
- s background, use the
- kground
- command.
- WTo copy page layouts between documents, use the
- Formats From
- command.
- <For help with special page layouts, click
- Creating a header and footer
- XText and objects on a master page appear in the background of all body pages associated
- Ywith that master page. (Note: A column with a flow tag doesn
- t appear in the background. n
- `Instead, it
- s used for
- column
- layout
- .) When you create a document from a FrameMaker t
- Xtemplate, a header and footer are already set up. You can change the text and variables
- 'used in a header and footer as needed.
- 0To create a header and footer on a master page:
- 'Choose Master Page from the Page menu.
- WOn a master page, draw text columns for the header and footer. To include a graphic in p w
- jthe header or footer, such as your company logo,
- create the
- graphic
- WCreate a paragraph format for the header and footer. Use tab stops to align header and hea
- footer information, as needed.
- QType the header and footer. Use system variables for items such as page numbers,
- !document/section name, and date.

- Creating a running header and footer
- VUse the system variable for a header or footer that may change from page to page. For
- Yexample, a header/footer that includes section headings changes from page to page as the
- sections change.
- cUse the Running H/F 1 through 4 variables to specify paragraph tags or
- text for ckD
- a header or footer.
- Creating special layouts
- OTo create a special page layout, such as a newsletter, you may want to change
- Pcolumn
- connections
- and flow properties, such as those described below.
- Keeping FrameMaker from generating pages
- VUsually, FrameMaker creates a new page when you fill a text column on a page. To keep
- RFrameMaker from generating pages, choose Flow from the Format menu, and turn off
- Autoconnect.
- Aligning the last lines in adjacent columns
- `To align the last lines in adjacent columns (called feathering), put the insertion point in the ab
- Wflow, choose Flow from the Format menu, and turn on Feathering. To specify the maximum
- Xamount of spacing (padding) FrameMaker can insert between paragraphs and lines, specify
- Rthe Maximum Interline Padding and Maximum Inter-
- Padding in the Flow dialog box.
- 'Aligning baselines in adjacent columns
- ZTo align baselines in adjacent columns, you must format the paragraphs you want to align,
- @specify a baseline grid, and position the tops of the columns.
