- XFrameMaker lets you create a book file that can include several documents and generated
- 1files, such as a table of contents and an index.

- To add a document to a book:
- DMake the book window active and choose Add File from the File menu.
- )The Add File to Book dialog box appears.
- FIn the scroll list on the right, select the document you want to add.
- ]In the scroll list on the left, select a file already in the book and choose Add File Before
- (or Add File After from the pop-up menu.
- Click OK.
- [To rearrange files in a book or delete a file from a book, make the book window active and
- ,choose Rearrange Files from the File menu.
- YTo specify page and paragraph numbering for a file in a book, select the filename in the
- 7book window and choose Set Up File from the File menu.
- Creating a book file
- To create a book file:
- 6Open a document you want to include in the book file.
- GChoose Generate from the File menu to display the Generate dialog box.
- BTurn on New Multifile Book and click OK to display a book window.
- BWith the book window active, choose commands on the File menu to:
- *Open, save, or close the files in a book.
- $Add a

- HSpecify the page and paragraph numbering for the documents in the book.
- SUpdate page and paragraph numbering and cross-references in all files in the book.

- Printing a document
- To print a document:
- !Choose Print from the File menu.
- The Print dialog box appears.
- SIf your printer produces pages with the printed side up, turn on Last Sheet First.
- %Fill in the dialog box and click OK.

- ZTo print crop and registration marks, turn on Registration Marks in the Print dialog box.

- Generating an index for a single document
- %To generate an index for a document:

- >With the document active, choose Generate from the File menu.

- EChoose Standard Index from the Index pop-up menu and click Generate.

- ATo move a marker, select it and click Move, or double-click it.
- Merging documents
- /You can merge documents in the following ways:
- 5Copy and paste text and graphics between documents.
- QCopy formats, such as paragraph and character formats, page layout, and variable

- bUse Generate on the File menu to

- a book file
- containing related documents. You

- on the File menu to import graphics or text into a document.
- Automatic save features
- TFrameMaker has two automatic save features. It can save a backup copy of a document
- Veach time you save it. It can also save a copy automatically while you work
- at a time
- Rinterval you specify; when you save the document yourself, FrameMaker removes the
- copy.
- 6To back up a document automatically when you save it:
- 'Choose Preferences from the File menu.
- $The Preferences dialog box appears.
- /Turn on Automatic Backup on Save and click OK.
- ?To save a document automatically at a specified time interval:
- 'Choose Preferences from the File menu.
- <Turn on Automatic Save, type a time interval, and click OK.

- 'To set up page numbers for a document:

- NChoose Document from the Format menu and specify the Numbering and Pagination

- Saving a document
- HTo save a document, use the Save and Save As commands on the File menu.
- Do this:
- 4Save with the same filename and format
- Choose Save.
- :Save with a different filename or format
- Choose Save As.

- Hold down Shift and choose Save All.

- Make the book window active and choose um
- Save.
- DSave all documents in a book
- Make the book window active, hold down k
- *Shift, and choose Save All Files in Book.

- Generating a table of contents for a single document
- 0To generate a table of contents for a document:
- >With the document active, choose Generate from the File menu.
- !The Generate dialog box appears.
- GChoose Table of Contents from the List pop-up menu and click Generate.
- 1The Set Up Table of Contents dialog box appears.
- DMove paragraph tags into the Include Paragraphs Tagged scroll list.
- >To move a tag, select it and click Move, or double-click it.
- ,Click OK to generate the table of contents.
- QFormatting changes you make to the table of contents are retained each time you
- generate it.

- LTo add a generated file such as a table of contents or an index to a book:
- DMake the book window active and choose Add File from the File menu.

- KChoose a file type from the Generated List or Generated Index pop-up menu.
- ]In the scroll list on the left, select a file already in the book and choose Add File Before k
- (or Add File After from the pop-up menu.
- Click OK.
- ZFill in the dialog box that appears indicating the tags of paragraphs or types of markers
- to extract, and click OK.
- TThe generated file
- s name appears in the book window. The dagger after the filename
