COMPANY 1.02
9/25/91
COMPANY is a little program that allows you to change the name of
the airline company in subLOGIC's ATP (Air Transport Pilot). By
default, the ATP "airline" is always "subLOGIC Airlines", and no
mechanism is provided by sL to change it. Using a real airline name
adds another small touch of realism to the simulation.
COMPANY does three things:
1. As mentioned, it allows you to change the name of the
airline.
2. It eliminates the word "flight" from ATC communications; real
life controllers would generally say "Delta 816" rather than
"Delta Flight 816". By a total coincidence (ha!),
eliminating "flight" provides enough room for the third
change:
3. It allows you to designate your equipment as being "heavy".
This terminology is used by ATC when communicating with large
aircraft such as the Boeing 747. When talking to a 747, ATC
would commonly say "Delta 816 heavy" rather than simply
"Delta 816".
COMPANY affects only ATC communications, not the logo that appears
on the aircraft (just imagine that the equipment is leased
temporarily from subLOGIC!).
To change the company name, simply ensure that ATP.EXE is in the
current directory and run COMPANY, specifying a new company name
of 22 characters or fewer:
company Pan American
company Eastern
company Federal Express
company Pacific Southwest
company Air Jordan
If you want ATC to refer to you as "heavy", add the /H option, which
must appear BEFORE the company name:
company /H Pan American
If you're heavy, the maximum length of the company name is 16
characters instead of 22.
To remove "heavy", just run COMPANY again and omit the /H
(specifying the company name only).
NOTE: after the first time you use COMPANY, ATIS will display "TEMP
nn" for the current temperature instead of "TEMPERATURE nn". This
change is permanent.
Version history
---------------
1.02 9/25/91
- Recognizes 3/11/91 version of ATP.EXE
1.01 9/12/91
- Recognizes 12/21/90 version of ATP.EXE
- Retains true ATP.EXE file date/time
- Fixes problem with long names if /H has never been used
1.00 9/5/91
Initial release (valid only for 12/19/90 version of ATP.EXE)
****************
As with any binary file modification program, don't use COMPANY on
your only copy of ATP.EXE, and >>NEVER<< use it on the ATP
distribution disk! If subLOGIC should ever release a new version of
ATP, COMPANY will not operate correctly with it (though we will
certainly try to release a new version of COMPANY).
COMPANY is donated to the public domain without warranty express or
implied. Neither the author nor The Cove Software Group are
responsible for any problems, real or imagined, caused by the
program.
Enjoy this little added touch of realism.
