  1. Installing DeskScan v2.5 on NT 4.0 Operating System 
  2.  
  3. Version 2.5 includes an HP ScanJet driver for ASPI- and CAM- compatible SCSI cards.  This driver is for 
  4. use ONLY with the HP ScanJet 5p, 4c, 4p, 3c, IIcx, IIc, 3p or IIp scanners.  This driver will not function 
  5. correctly with the original ScanJet (HP9190A) or ScanJet Plus scanners. 
  6.  
  7. If you are using an ASPI or CAM compliant SCSI interface card that WAS NOT supplied by Hewlett-
  8. Packard with your scanner, ONLY complete Step 2 below:  "Load DeskScan v2.5 Software". 
  9.  
  10. If you are using the original SCSI interface card supplied by Hewlett-Packard with your scanner, you must 
  11. complete Steps 1-3 below. 
  12.  
  13.  
  14. To properly install DeskScan v2.5 on NT 4.0, you must follow these three important steps: 
  15.  
  16. Step 1.      Identify if your HP SCSI interface card is supported by DeskScan v2.5 drivers.   
  17.  
  18. Step 2.      Load DeskScan v2.5 software 
  19.  
  20. Step 3.      Install the drivers for the Hewlett-Packard SCSI interface card 
  21.

  23. Step 1.  IDENTIFY IF YOUR HP SCSI CARD IS SUPPORTED BY DESKSCAN V2.5 DRIVERS. 
  24.  
  25. The following HP SCSI card part numbers are supported by DeskScan v2.5 on NT 4.0:

  45. <Step 1a> 
  46. For ScanJet IIp, 4c and 4p owners, two versions of SCSI cards were shipped during the life of the product.  
  47. You must identify your HP SCSI interface card part number to verify support and proper driver installation 
  48. with DeskScan v2.5.   
  49.  
  50. To complete this process, you will have to open your computer to look at the card.  Please refer to your 
  51. computer's manual for correct opening procedures. 
  52.

  54. 1. Open your computer.   
  55. 2. Look for the card to which the scanner is attached. 
  56. 3. Find the part number on card and verify support based on table below

  75. Step 2.  LOAD DESKSCAN V2.5 SOFTWARE 
  76.  
  77. 1.      Login as Systems Administrator. 
  78.  
  79. 2.      Run setup.exe 
  80.  
  81.         If software was downloaded from the web:   
  82.         Find setup.exe in the disk1 directory, once downloaded file has been extracted.
  83.        
  84.           If software is on diskettes:  
  85.         Put in Disk #1 and type A:\setup.exe (where A: is your floppy drive).

  87. 3.  At "Confirm Installation Settings", in the "Scanner Interface Card" section, select the appropriate 
  88.      interface card based on table below.

  102. Step 3.      INSTALL THE DRIVERS FOR THE HEWLETT-PACKARD SCSI INTERFACE CARD 
  103.  
  104. 1.  Login with System Administrator privileges. 
  105.  
  106. 2.  Open the Control Panel: 
  107.         => Click the Start button 
  108.         => Choose Settings 
  109.         => Choose Control Panel. 
  110.  
  111. 3.  When the Control Panel displays: 
  112.         => Double-click the SCSI Adapters icon 
  113.  
  114. 4.  When the SCSI Adapters dialog box displays 
  115.         => Choose the Drivers tab. 
  116.         => Click add 
  117.  
  118. 5.  When the Install Driver dialog box displays: 
  119.         => Click Have Disk... 
  120.  
  121. 6.  Load drivers for specific interface card identified in Step 1 above:  "Identify if your HP SCSI interface 
  122. card is supported by DeskScan v2.5 drivers".

  124. If your SCSI card is part number SYMXXXXX: 
  125.     When the Install from Disk Dialog box displays: 
  126.         => In the "Copy manufacturer's files from:" box:  
  127.          
  128.         If software was downloaded from the web:   
  129.         =>Type in the path to the disk1 directory.
  130.           => Click OK 
  131.  
  132.           If software is on diskettes:  
  133.         Put in Disk #1 and type A:\  (where A: is your floppy drive). 
  134.         => Click OK 
  135.  
  136.     When the Install Driver dialog box displays: 
  137.         => Select the Symbios Logic 53C416 (HP Version) SCSI Host Adapter driver in the 
  138.               Install Driver list box 
  139.         => Click OK 
  140.  
  141.     If you see the Windows NT setup message box stating that the driver is already installed: 
  142.         => Click the New button to get the new version of the drivers. 
  143.  
  144.     When the NT setup dialog box displays: 
  145.         => Retype the path  
  146.  
  147.         If software was downloaded from the web:   
  148.         =>Type in the path to the disk1directory.
  149.           => Click continue. 
  150.         => Go to Step 7.

  152.           If software is on diskettes:  
  153.         Put in Disk #1 and type A:\  (where A: is your floppy drive). 
  154.         => Click continue. 
  155.         => Go to Step 7.

  158. If your SCSI card is part number C2502-665XX: 
  159.     When the Install from Disk Dialog box displays: 
  160.         => In the "Copy manufacturer's files from:" box.

  162.         If software was downloaded from the web:   
  163.         =>Type in the path to the disk3 directory.
  164.           => Click OK

  166.           If software is on diskettes:  
  167.         Put in Disk #3 and type A:\  (where A: is your floppy drive).

  170.     When the Install Driver dialog box displays: 
  171.         => Select the Symbios Logic 400a (HP Version) SCSI Host Adapter driver in the 
  172.               Install Driver list box 
  173.         => Click OK 
  174.  
  175.     If you see the Windows NT setup message box stating that the driver is already installed: 
  176.         => Click the New button to get the new version of the drivers.

  178.     When the NT setup dialog box displays:

  191. 7.  The drivers for the HP scanner card and the HP ScanJet scanner will be copied.

  193. 8.  When the System Settings Change dialog box displays: 
  194.         =>Choose Yes to restart the computer.
