  30.         Installation instructions for the Lexmark 4047 5E Printer
  31.                        Driver for Microsoft Windows 3.1

  34.         1.  Start Windows and select and open the MAIN program group.
  35.  
  36.         2.  Select and open the CONTROL PANEL program.
  37.  
  38.         3.  On the Control Panel dialog, select and open PRINTERS.
  39.             The Printers dialog will appear.
  40.  
  41.         4.  On the Printers dialog, select ADD.  In the List of Printers box,
  42.             select "Install Unlisted or Updated Printer".  Then select INSTALL.
  43.  
  44.         5.  The Install Driver dialog is displayed.  Enter the drive (and
  45.             path) that contains the new driver files (examples - A:\ or
  46.             C:\(path)\) and select OK.
  47.  
  48.         6.  The Add Unlisted or Updated Printer dialog will be displayed.  In
  49.             the List of Printers box, select the "Lexmark 4047 5E Printer",
  50.             then select OK to install the driver files.
  51.  
  52.         7.  When the driver files have been installed, the Printers dialog
  53.             will be redisplayed.  Select the "Lexmark 4047 5E Printer"
  54.             in the Installed Printers box; then select CONNECT.  The Connect
  55.             dialog will be displayed.  Select the desired printer port, normally
  56.             LPT1:, and select OK.  You will return to the Printers dialog.

  58.         8.  Select Setup on the Printers dialog.  The Lexmark 4047 5E
  59.             Printer dialog will be displayed.  On this dialog, you can select
  60.             default print job attributes such as graphics resolution, paper
  61.             source, and paper size.  Acknowledge your choices by selecting OK.
  62.             You will return to the Printers dialog.

  64.         9.  To make the Lexmark 4047 5E Printer the currently active
  65.             printer, select SET AS DEFAULT PRINTER. Select CLOSE to exit
  66.             PRINTERS and return to the CONTROL PANEL.

  68.        10.  Note!  Before proceeding with this step, it is recommended that
  69.             you make a backup copy of the System.ini file in case an error
  70.             is made in the following edit process.

  72.             Add "device=LEX01.386" to the [386Enh] section of the System.ini
  73.             file.  To do this, use an editor and open the System.ini file.  Go
  74.             to the [386Enh] section and add "device=LEX01.386".  Save the
  75.             edited System.ini file.  Windows must be re-started for this
  76.             change to take effect.  The basic installation is now complete.  To
  77.             use bidi functions of the printer go to step 11.

  80.        11.  Note!  Before proceeding with this step, it is recommended that
  81.             you make a backup copy of the C:\CONFIG.SYS file in case an error
  82.             is made in the following edit process.

  84.             For the bidi functions of the Lexmark 4047 5E Windows driver to
  85.             work properly, the CONFIG.SYS file must include the following
  86.             item:

  88.             DEVICE=c:\xxx\BIDIDRVR.SYS
  89.  
  90.             where c:\xxx is the directory where file BIDIDRVR.SYS resides.

  92.             To add "DEVICE=c:\xxx\BIDIDRVR.SYS" to CONFIG.SYS, use an editor
  93.             and open the CONFIG.SYS file.  Add "DEVICE=c:\xxx\BIDIDRVR.SYS"
  94.             as a new line.  Save the edited CONFIG.SYS file.  Copy the new
  95.             BIDIDRVR.SYS file to directory c:\xxx.  Your PC must be re-
  96.             booted for this change to take effect.  The installation is now
  97.             complete.
