  4. DESCRIPTION
  5.         Foreign Travel Expense Accounting Version 1.52 tracks travel
  6.         expenses, performs the currency conversions and outputs  
  7.         reports to the screen and printer.  It is designed primarily
  8.         for business travelers who want a simple, convenient way to 
  9.         keep track of travel expenses that involve foreign currencies. 
  10.         It can "home base" your expenses in any of the currencies
  11.         listed (approximately 45) and allows you to use up to 10 
  12.         (including the "home base currency") at any one time.  It is
  13.         designed for practicality, not a lot of fancy pictures; just
  14.         get the numbers crunched and the expense report out.  This 
  15.         version is FREEWARE.

  18. NOTE:  Files created with this version are not compatible with the
  19.        original version 1.0, which dealt with only Asian 
  20.        currencies, or versions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, or 1.4 because of the 
  21.        way the files are saved (they are with version 1.5, 1.51).  
  22.        This should not be a major problem because, in most cases, you 
  23.        will use the program to track the expenses and rates during 
  24.        a trip and print out the result at the end, not saving the 
  25.        data (in the computer file) for posterity.

  29.         -Readme.1st - this file.

  35. INSTALLATION    
  36.         -Install this program the same way you would any other
  37.         Windows program, i.e. copy the files EXPENSE.EXE and 
  38.         EXPENSE.HLP to whatever directory you want them in. Then,
  39.         click on the "FILE" menu, then the "NEW" menu, then the 
  40.         "PROPERTIES" menu and fill in the appropriate information.
  41.         This program does not fool around with any of your Windows
  42.         files such as win.ini etc.  You can also double click on
  43.         the file name (EXPENSE.EXE) from the File Manager in
  44.         Windows to start the program.
  45.  
  46.         -After starting the program, click on the "DATA" menu and 
  47.         fill in the items you wish to use; it is probably best to
  48.         start by filling in the exchange rates and names, etc.
  49.         (NAMES/RATES) first.  If you save the file, you can then add 
  50.         exchange rates and transactions as you need to, while 
  51.         traveling.  If you use the same exchange rates a lot, just 
  52.         use the "SAVE AS" under the "FILE" menu to save a copy of 
  53.         your data file under a new name and then simply go through
  54.         the "TRANSPORTATION", "HOTEL" etc lists clicking on the 
  55.         "DELETE" button to remove your old transactions.  You then 
  56.         have a clean data base to start with using the same exchange 
  57.         rates as before without having to re-enter the rates.

  59.         -As mentioned in the "HELP" files, the capacity is limited,
  60.         but should be enough for at least one week at a time.

  62.         -Please read the first page of "HELP" files for particulars 
  63.         on some of the functioning of the program.  I did not add a
  64.         lot of error checking so the old adage about "garbage in, 
  65.         garbage out" still applies.

  67.         -Some of the icons are better for monochrome screens so choose
  68.         whichever is easier for you to read.  Also, please note that 
  69.         the default screen font for lower resolution screens (which 
  70.         I arbitrarily assumed would be laptop or notebook etc.) is 
  71.         smaller than normal.  That was done not to make the screen 
  72.         harder to read, although it has that effect, but so that more 
  73.         would fit on the screen without having to move all around.  
  74.         As of version 1.4 you can easily change the screen font to 
  75.         something you like by using the "FONT" menu.

  77.         -A sample data file, imaginatively called SAMPLE.EXP, is 
  78.         included with these files so you can see what it all looks
  79.         like when it is filled in.

  81.         IMPORTANT NOTE - THERE ARE TWO CARDINAL RULES FOR OPERATING
  82.         THIS PROGRAM: RULE ONE - YOU MUST DESIGNATE YOUR BASE
  83.         CURRENCY AS HAVING A VALUE OF "1.0".  RULE TWO - IF YOU
  84.         WANT TO USE THE DATE SORT (CHRONOLOGICAL TRANSACTION
  85.         SORTING), YOU MUST ENTER THE INDIVIDUAL TRANSACTION DATES
  86.         IN THIS FORMAT MM/DD/YY WITH LEADING ZEROS AS NECESSARY,
  87.         SO THAT 9 APRIL 1995 BECOMES 04/09/95.

  90. VERSION ENHANCEMENTS
  91.         
  92.         -Version 1.52 fixes a few minor menu selections and 
  93.         eliminates the hot key conflicts.

  96.         -Version 1.51 fixes header printing with certain printer
  97.         drivers and fixes printing if you print other than the
  98.         first page first.

  101.         -Version 1.5 adds improved screen scrolling, the use of sub
  102.         accounts for sorting (PROJECT/CLIENT), chronological sorting,
  103.         a ROWVIEW for easy access quick editing, and some improvement
  104.         in the continuing battle for perfect printing.

  107.         -Version 1.4 added a "BUSINESS ENTERTAINMENT" section for 
  108.         tracking expenses, as well as the ability to change screen
  109.         and printer fonts on the report as a whole, and added page
  110.         headers.
