  33. Introduction
  34. ------------
  35. Winfoil was originally released in September 1993 as version 1.0. A new
  36. version 1.5 was released in December 1993. 
  37. This version replaces all other versions. Winfoil has been totally rewritten
  38. using Microsofts' Visual Basic and Microsofts' Access Database Engine.

  40. Listed below are the features provided by the previous versions which are
  41. also included in version  2.0.5;
  42.  
  43. Print airfoils sections in metric or imperial dimensions.
  44. Print one per page or automatically adjust  to print more than one per page.
  45. Print airfoils for a range of chord lengths.
  46. Print airfoil name, grid, chord length and coordinates.
  47. Print to the windows clipboard.
  48. Store airfoil lift, drag and pitching moment coefficients for airfoil 
  49. comparison and selection.
  50. Export airfoil data for input into other programs.
  51. Online help.
  52. Context sensitive Help. Press the Function Key F1 to select help on the 
  53. currently selected feature within WINFOIL or press the HELP button.
  54. Faster screen redraws
  55. Improved user interface - toolbars
  56. Print Airfoils larger than page size.
  57. CAD like user interface screens to design wings and airfoils
  58. Design wings or tails of any shape. Winfoil will automatically determine
  59. rib lengths.
  60. Airfoil thickness shown
  61. Airfoil thickness variation allowed for printing.
  62. Different airfoil sections can be selected for a wing design. Winfoil will
  63. automatically print the airfoil sections along the span.
  64. Automatic calculation of area, aspect ratio and mean aerodynamic chord.

  67. Horizontal and vertical tail sizing calculations for conventional aircraft

  82. There are no restricted functions in the unregistered version and full 
  83. online help is provided. Ten airfoils are provided in the unregistered 
  84. version.

  86. Please Note this program is Shareware. It is not Freeware. You are permitted
  87. to try the program for a maximum of 30 days after which you are expected to 
  88. send a registration fee to the author. Registered users will receive my
  89. thanks , a receipt  and a registered version of WINFOIL with 120 airfoils. 
  90. Registered users will also receive a free WINFOIL upgrade when available. 
  91. The upgrade will include new features and extra airfoils.

  126. -------------------

  128. Winfoil runs on any IBM or 100% compatible with the Intel 386,
  129. 486 or Pentium CPU and requires Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11 or Windows NT.
  130. At least 4 MB of memory and 3.5 MB of hard disk space is required.
  131. Graphics modes supported are; EGA , VGA , 8514/A and Hercules.
  132. Winfoil will print to any Windows supported printer and can run on a 
  133. network.

  138. Installation

  143. 1. You will need to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to run the DOS SHARE
  144.    utility.After the path statement which has C:\DOS in it add the following
  145.    line before the WIN command that starts Windows:
  146.  
  147.            SHARE /L:500 /F:5100
  148.  
  149.    If the /L or the /F setting to SHARE has a larger value than listed here, 
  150.    leave the setting as it is rather than reducing it.
  151.  
  152.    Save the file and restart your computer.
  153.    If you do not have an AUTOEXEC.BAT file, type C:\DOS\SHARE as a line
  154.    in a text file and save it as AUTOEXEC.BAT then restart your computer.

  156. 2. Run SETUP.EXE either by double clicking on the file whilst in FILE
  157.    MANAGER or by using the RUN command from the FILE menu in PROGRAM MANAGER
  158.    
  159.    eg; A:\SETUP
  160.      
  161.    Select the source directory, Click on the CONTINUE button.
  162.    Select the destination directory, Click on the CONTINUE button.
  163.    You will be prompted to insert disk 2 after all disk 1 files are
  164.    installed. You can cancel the installation process by clicking on the
  165.    CANCEL button.

  168. Bug Fixes and Enhancements
  169. --------------------------
  170.  
  171. 17/1/95    Fixed Wing List 'Change Wing' function. Would only work if
  172.     double clicked on the grid.
  173.  
  174. 17/1/95 Airfoil List, Coordinate List and Wing List are now sized 
  175.     according to the screen resolution. When Winfoil is run in 
  176.     SVGA and XGA modes the grids and buttons resize proportionally.
  177.  
  178. 19/1/95 Another fix required for screen sizing at different screen 
  179.     resolutions.

  181. 19/1/95 Wing Cad Undo function (trash can icon) fixed. Was not undoing
  182.     change until clicked a second time.
  183.     Fixed mouse positioning when stretching a selected coordinate    
  184.     pair at high screen resolutions, was shifting the cursor left.

  186. 14/2/95 Fix Registration form printing. Was defaulting to 5.25 disk.
  187.     Also fixed switching to a different application when exiting
  188.     this form.

  190. 21/2/95 New DLL added (Winflprt) to stop printing problem on networks.
  191.     Setup program modified to copy files to destination directory
  192.     if copy to windows system directory is unsuccessful after
  193.     version checking.

  196.     occuring.

  198. 11/4/95    Added DXF file output for ribs and airfoils. DXF files can be
  199.     read by other CAD programs (AutoCAD).

  203.     Enhanced Airfoil editing in AIRFOIL CAD screen. Can now select
  204.     coordinates for deletion or modification.

  207. 13/5/95 Fix airfoil coordinate edit screen. Fix airfoil coordinate 
  208.     delete function. Was previously using xupper coordinate
  209.     as the index for selecting the coordinate. Aifoil Coordinate
  210.     database table is indexed on the lower x coordinate.

  212. 22/7/95 Version 2.0.5 release. New version handles different International
  213.     language settings correctly. Printing of airfoils to DXF files
  214.     fixed in Print Airfoil Screen. Camber and chord line plotted 
  215.     on screen.

  217. 19/8/95 DXF file output fixed. Continuous lines incorrectly spelt. Autocad
  218.     would not load the file. However DXF file would load in other CAD
  219.     programs such as TurboCad.

  221. 22/8/95 Vertical Tail sizing Graph was showing incorrect values when mouse
  222.     clicked on graph for metric tail sizes.
