  28. 1.  The new Administrator Mode provides the ability
  29.     to lock VirusScan95 configuration settings.
  30.    
  31. 2.  VirusScan95 configuration files have been enhanced. 
  32.     Right-clicking on a VirusScan configuration
  33.     file (VSC) displays the file's properties and two
  34.     new tabs: Options and Actions. One of the new
  35.     properties is Start Automatically, located in the
  36.     Options tab. Start Automatically is necessary for
  37.     scheduled scanning from the optional System
  38.     Agent and for Startup group on-demand scanning.

  426. KNOWN ISSUES
  427.  
  428. 1.  VirusScan95 appears to continue scanning after
  429.     clicking STOP. If this occurs, move the VirusScan95 
  430.     window to reveal the DynaZip UnZip Error window.
  431.     Click OK and respond appropriately to the dialog
  432.     box.
  433.   
  434. 2.  Files with the "-" (dash) character in the filename that
  435.     are compressed in Zipped files will not be scanned by
  436.     the on-demand scanner.
  437.  
  438. 3.  When a macro virus is detected in conjunction with
  439.     other viruses, the macro virus remover will not work.
  440.     If this occurs, remove the other virus first or work
  441.     in a separate area.
  442.  
  443. 4.  Windows 95 no longer requires MS-DOS memory managers. 
  444.     Using MS-DOS memory managers may cause VirusScan95
  445.     to falsely detect viruses in memory. To eliminate
  446.     false warnings, remark (Rem) the memory manager lines
  447.     from your CONFIG.SYS to deactivate them.

  543. * TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION *

  545. The Eicar Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined 
  546. effort by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to 
  547. come up with one standard by which customers can verify 
  548. their anti-virus installations. To test your 
  549. installation, copy the following line into its own 
  550. file and name it EICAR.COM.
  551.

  554. When done, you will have a 69 or 70 byte file.
  555.  
  556. When VirusScan is applied to this file, SCAN will report 
  557. finding the EICAR-STANDARD-AV-TEST-FILE virus.
  558.  
  559. It is important to know that THIS IS NOT A VIRUS.
  560. However, users often have the need to test that their 
  561. installations function correctly. The anti-virus industry, 
  562. through the European Institute for Computer Antivirus 
  563. Research, has adopted this standard to facilitate this need.
  564.  
  565. Please delete the file when installation testing is completed
  566. so unsuspecting users are not unnecessarily alarmed.

  605. Q:  How do I scan multiple drives?
  606.  
  607. A: #1  VirusScan95 can scan many locations simultaneously.
  608.        To do this, take these steps:
  609.        1.  Launch Explorer.
  610.        2.  Highlight the drives or folders you want to
  611.            scan.
  612.        3.  Right-click to reveal the Context Menu.
  613.        4.  Select Scan for Viruses.
  614.        5.  Click Scan Now to begin scans.
  615.  
  616. A: #2  Enter LocalDrives or NetworkDrives in the 
  617.        Scan In text dialog on the Where & What property
  618.        page. Click Scan Now and all LocalDrives or all
  619.        NetworkDrives will be scanned.
  620.  
  621.  
  622. Q:  I moved a VSC file to my Startup folder.
  623.     Whenever I turn on my PC, it launches VirusScan95,
  624.     but it does not begin scanning. How can I make it
  625.     start scanning automatically?
  626.  
  627. A:  You need to customize your options. Take these
  628.     steps:
  629.  
  630.     1.  Navigate to the location of the saved VSC file.
  631.     2.  While pointing to the VSC file, right-click to
  632.         reveal the Context Menu.
  633.     3.  From the Context Menu, select Properties.  
  634.     4.  Select the Options Tab on the property sheet. 
  635.     5.  Check the Start Automatically box.
  636.  
  637.     By enabling this option, scanning will begin 
  638.     automatically. If viruses are not detected, 
  639.     VirusScan95 will automatically close and free up 
  640.     system resources.
  641.  
  642.  
  643. Q:  When VirusScan95 is launched, how does it determine
  644.     the default settings?
  645.  
  646. A:  VirusScan95 default settings may be found in the 
  647.     DEFAULT.VSC file located in the install directory. 
  648.  
  649.  
  650. Q:  My executable files were set to shareable and read-only
  651.     before I ran VirusScan95, now they are read-only. How
  652.     can I retain the shareable attribute?
  653.  
  654. A:  Mark the files Execute Only. Then create a dummy account
  655.     called SCAN on the server and grant only Read and
  656.     Filescan rights to that account. Log in as SCAN before
  657.     scanning your Novell volumes.
  658.  
  659.  
  660. Q:  Can I update VirusScan's data files to detect
  661.     new viruses?
  662.  
  663. A:  Yes. If you have Internet access, you can download
  664.     updated VirusScan data files from the McAfee Web 
  665.     Site, BBS, or other online resources. To download 
  666.     from the McAfee Web Site, follow these steps:
  667.  
  668.     1.  Go to the McAfee Web Site (http://www.mcafee.com
  669.         or 205.227.129.97).
  670.  
  671.     2.  Click on the Download McAfee button.
  672.  
  673.     3.  Scroll down, and select either McAfee for Home
  674.         (for personal evaluation copies) or McAfee 
  675.         for Business (for corporate evaluation copies).
  676.         If you select McAfee for Business, you will be
  677.         asked to provide some contact information. Use
  678.         Tab to move from line to line within the form.
  679.  
  680.     4.  Click on either Evaluation Copies of McAfee
  681.         Products or the McAfee Public Beta Site.
  682.  
  683.     5.  Click on Anti-virus, then select Index.txt to
  684.         view descriptions of the products available on
  685.         this site. Find the most recent virus data file
  686.         for your product.
  687.  
  688.     6.  Return to the Anti-virus page and click on the
  689.         file. Download the file by saving it to your
  690.         Desktop.

  706. The new Administrative Mode feature allows System
  707. Administrators to lock VirusScan95 configurations on
  708. users' systems. To use this feature, take the following
  709. steps:

  711. 1.  Start VirusScan95 by double-clicking on the
  712.     VirusScan icon.

  714. 2.  Press and hold the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and
  715.     double-click the magnifying glass icon.

  722.     b.  Confirm your new password.
