PCL6 is HP's new graphic language that offers better WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get), faster performance, and better gray shading.  Windows NT 4.0 includes a PCL5e driver written by Microsoft, but this PCL6 driver will perform better in many instances.  This driver was developed and is supported by Hewlett-Packard for use on PCL6 capable printers like the LaserJet 5/5N/5M or the LaserJet 6P/6MP.

  55. - Close all applications or programs

  57. - Close any shell utilities such as: Microsoft Office Manager, Norton
  58.   Desktop,  etc.

  60. - Close virus checkers

  62. TO INSTALL THE HP PCL6 DRIVER IN WINDOWS NT 4.0:

  64. 1)  Click on Start, Settings, Printers.  
  65. 2)  Double click on "Add Printer"
  66. 3)  Answer the questions in the Add Printer Wizard until you reach the screen 
  67. with the printer manufacturer list.
  68. 4)  Select "Have Disk"
  69. 3)  Insert the HP PCL6 driver disk 1 in drive A and click "OK" OR type the 
  70. path to the location on your system where the driver files were 
  71. downloaded and decompressed.  
  72. 4)  Select the appropriate printer.
  73. 5)  Follow the remaining instructions to complete the printer 
  74. installation.

  83. *  Where are HP FontSmart, and HP JetAdmin? 
  84.  
  85. JetAdmin, a network printer management tool from HP, and FontSmart, a font management tool for Windows, are both included on the Windows 95 driver diskettes that ship with your printer.  Fontsmart may be loaded from your Windows 95 disks (Provided by HP in the printer box) onto your Windows NT system by selecting file, run, and setup on the disk 1 of the set. IMPORTANT:  This will not work with the LaserJet 6P/6MP disks, only the LaserJet 5/5M/5N disk set.  WARNING:  When the setup utility starts, select a "custom" installation and choose to install FontSmart ONLY!  If you install anything else, you will encounter problems.  DO NOT install JetAdmin from these disks.  It will not work and will cause problems with your system.

  87. Jet Admin for Windows NT 4.0 is available through HP's electronic fulfillment services mentioned at the end of this README.

  90. * Can I get a Flash Memory SIMM - for Fonts?

Optional 2MB or 4MB Flash memory SIMMs are available for the HP LaserJet 5/5M/5N printer (see your authorized HP dealer for more information. Not available for the LaserJet 6P/6MP). The flash memory software (HP Forms and Fonts Manager) can be used to download fonts but Windows NT 4.0 has no method for using the fonts at this time.  The fonts can be used by Windows 95 clients.

  94. * What if I install additional memory in the printer?

  96. If you have installed additional memory or removed memory from the printer, the printer driver may need to be updated manually. To identify the exact amount of memory, do the following:

  98. On the "Device Settings" tab in the driver, find the entry for "Installed Memory". Set the total amount of memory in the printer.  You can determine how much memory your printer has by printing a self-test from the control panel (LaserJet 5/5M/5N only).
