  12. "PurgeIE" is an acronym for "Purge Cache, Cookies and Tracks for
  13. Internet Explorer".

  15. "PurgeIE" is the "Swiss Army Knife" of Internet Explorer Cleanup and
  16. Management Tools.
  17.  
  18. "PurgeIE" is useful whether you need to save disk space, manage your
  19. Cache and Cookies or to Cleanup your surfing Tracks.
  20.  
  21. "PurgeIE" is distributed as Trialware.  This provides for you trying
  22. the software on your system prior to purchasing it.

  24. System Requirements:  Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP or NT 4.0
  25.                       Internet Explorer 4.x - 6.x

  27. Notice  -  Netscape is not supported.

  29. This trial version of "PurgeIE" may be installed and then evaluated for
  30. up to 15 non-contiguous days.

  32. There are no limitations imposed on the product within the trial period.

  34. After the trial period, "PurgeIE" must be registered to regain full
  35. functionality.  Registration costs only $19.95.

  42. trial period even if the product has not been registered.

  53.  
  54. This folder contains the self-extracting installation file for
  55. "PurgeIE" - PURG503.EXE
  56.  
  57. To install "PurgeIE", simply execute (run) PURG503.EXE from this
  58. folder.
  59.  
  60. If it becomes necessary to uninstall "PurgeIE", please use the
  61. 'Add/Remove' function found on your Window's 'Control Panel'.

  66.                               Overview
  67.  
  68. "PurgeIE" is a software utility program designed to help maintain the
  69. Cache and Cookie files and to remove one's Tracks for Internet
  70. Explorer 4.0, or higher, whether running on Windows-95, Windows-98,
  71. Windows-ME, Windows-2000, Windows-XP or NT 4.0.
  72.  
  73. "PurgeIE" offers several options in its fresh approach to the cleanup
  74. of Internet Explorer files:
  75.  
  76. First, a distinction is made between Offline Cache and Online Cache.
  77. These can be purged individually.
  78.  
  79. Online Cache was referred to as Subscription Cache in IE-4.  This
  80. document uses the term Online Cache to refer to "other than Offline"
  81. Cache.
  82.  
  83. Second, the user has the option to specify a "minimum time since last
  84. use" for purging Offline Cache and for purging Online
  85. Cache.
  86.  
  87. Third, Internet Explorer's primary INDEX.DAT files are properly
  88. updated without deleting them.  This is done in a manner consistent
  89. with the design of Internet Explorer's Cache system that was
  90. implemented beginning with Version 4.0.  This avoids the requirement
  91. for "rebooting" that other such utility programs require for their
  92. deleting the primary INDEX.DAT files.
  93.  
  94. Fourth, an option is provided for deleting "Stray" Cache and Cookie
  95. files.  These are files for which the index pointers have been lost
  96. within the INDEX.DAT files.
  97.  
  98. Fifth, a convenient method is provided for "protecting Cookies" from
  99. its purge function.
  100.  
  101. Sixth, this utility can also be viewed as a Track Cleaning utility as
  102. it has functions for deleting the user's tracks that Internet Explorer
  103. deposits in various Cache files, the INDEX.DAT files, the History
  104. Folders, the Windows Temporary files and the Registry.
  105.  
  106. Seventh, a Preview option is provided to enable the user to preview
  107. the effect of each of the Purge options.
