  9. Im Unterverzeichnis fips20 befindet sich ein Werkzeug, mit 
  10.  
  11. dessen Hilfe FAT16-, VFAT- und FAT32-Partitionen in der 
  12.  
  13. Groesse veraendert werden koennen. Neben der Version 2.0 von 
  14.  
  15. fips ist im Unterverzeichnis fips15 auch noch die 
  16.  
  17. Version 1.5 beigefuegt. Sie beherrscht noch keine 
  18.  
  19. FAT32-Partitionen. Die Version 2.0 zeigte sich in unseren 
  20.  
  21. Versuchen sehr stabil. Da jedoch die Veraenderung eines 
  22.  
  23. Dateisystems einen ernsthaften Eingriff bedeutet und da 
  24.  
  25. sich die Version 1.5 ueber lange Zeit als sehr zuverlaessig
  26.  
  27. erwiesen hat, haben wir uns entschlossen, auch diese Version
  28.  
  29. mitzuliefern.

  33. Bitte beachten Sie, dass wir von der Vorgaengerversion 1.5c 
  34.  
  35. (sie ist mit 2.0 weitestgehend identisch) einige wenige 
  36.  
  37. Berichte bekommen haben, nach denen die Verwendung 
  38.  
  39. dieses Programms zu einem  vollstaendigen Datenverlust fuehrte.

  43. Die Verwendung aller Versionen von fips erfolgt auf 
  44.  
  45. eigene Gefahr !

  49. Es ist in jedem Fall sinnvoll, vor der Anwendung des

  51. Programms ein Backup aller wichtiger Daten zu erstellen.

  53. Bitte beachten Sie auch, dass erweiterte Partitionen mit

  55. Fips nicht bearbeitet werden koennen.

  59. Ggf. bietet sich die Verwendung eines kommerziellen

  61. Programms zur Veraenderung der Partitionen an, wie z.B.

  63. des System Commanders von V Communications Inc.

  69. Falls Sie mit fips 2.0 im Zusammenhang mit FAT32 auf

  71. Schwierigkeiten der genannten Art stossen, waeren wir fuer

  73. ein Feedback dankbar. Bitte teilen Sie uns in diesem Fall

  75. die genauen Daten der Partitionen vor/nach der Anwendung 
  76.  
  77. von fips 15c mit (Befehl 'fdisk -l'). Auch Details ueber 
  78.  
  79. Ihre Hardware (welche Platte, ...) waeren wichtig. Senden

  111. In the subdirectory fips20 you can find a tool for the resizing 
  112.  
  113. of FAT16-, VFAT- and FAT32-filesystems. Along with version 2.0 
  114.  
  115. of fips comes version 1.5, which is contained in the subdirectory 
  116.  
  117. fips15. It can't handle FAT32, though.
  118.  
  119.

  121. In our own tests we encountered  no problems with v. 2.0, FAT32 
  122.  
  123. filesystems could be resized flawlessly. Since changing the size 
  124.  
  125. of a partition is a severe operation and since v. 1.5 ran smoothly 
  126.  
  127. for a long time, we decided to also include this version.
  128.

  131. Please note, that there are (very few) reports from our customers, 
  132.  
  133. that the usage of fips 1.5c (which is almost identical with 2.0) 
  134.  
  135. in conjunction with FAT32 might lead to a complete loss of data. 
  136.

  139. Therefore : Use fips at your own risk !
  140.  
  141.

  143. Before using fips 2.0, we highly recommend to create a backup of
  144.  
  145. all important data. Please also note that fips can't handle 
  146.  
  147. extended partitions.

  151. In some cases the usage of a commercial product such as the System
  152.  
  153. Commander by V Communications Inc. (see http://www.v-com.com/ ) 
  154.  
  155. might be a wise decision.
  156.

  159. If you use fips 2.0 in conjunction with FAT32 and you come across 
  160.  
  161. problems such as a loss of data, it would help us a lot if you 
  162.  
  163. could send us some information about the circumstances of the crash.
  164.  
  165. Please collect information such as the exact geometry of the 
  166.  
  167. partitions (use 'fdisk -l') before and after the crash. We would 
  168.  
  169. also be interested in the type of hardware that you use (what 
  170.  
  171. disks, ...). Please send this information to feedback@suse.com .
