Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 Readme First File

Please read all the sections before you proceed with the
installation.

1. Contents of this Web site release package
------------------------------------------
The following subfolders contain the various parts of this
software:
|-\APPL - Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 Setup Software
| (for Windows 9x and Windows NT 4.0)
|
|-\DRIVERS\WIN9x - Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 Drivers
| (for Windows 9x)
|
|-\DRIVERS\WINNT40 - Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 Drivers
(for Windows NT 4.0)
It is advisable to follow the sequence of installing the drivers
(either section 2, 3 or 4) before you install the Creative PC-DVD
Encore Dxr3 software (section 5).
2. How to install the drivers in Windows 95
-----------------------------------------
For Windows 95 users, you need to know which version of
Windows 95 you are using before you proceed.
To check the version of Windows 95 you are using:
1. On the Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon.
2. On the menu that appears, click Properties.
The System Properties dialog box appears with the General
tabbed page displayed.
3. Look at the entry under System.
If it states: Microsoft Windows 95
4.00.950 B
then you have the OSR2 version of Windows 95.
Older versions of Windows 95 will have either '4.00.950'
or '4.00.950 A'
Now, proceed to one of the following sections:
A. To install the drivers in Windows 95 (Retail version)
B. To install the drivers in Windows 95 (OSR2 and later)
A. To install the drivers in Windows 95 (Retail version):
----------------------------------------------------------
1. Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. In the "Control Panel" window, double-click the "System" icon.
3. In the "System Properties" dialog box, click the "Device
Manager" tab.
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to "Sound, video, and game
controllers" and double-click "Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3".
5. Click the "Driver" tab.
6. Click the "Change Driver" button.
7. Click the "Have Disk" button.
8. Click the "Browse" button and go to the Setup subfolder of the
folder where you have placed the downloaded files.
Click the "OK" button.
9. Click the "Finish" button.
10. After the drivers are updated, RESTART THE SYSTEM.
11. Proceed to section 5, "How to upgrade Creative PC-DVD Encore
Dxr3 software".
B. To install the drivers in In Windows 95 (OSR2 version or later):
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Click -> Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. In the "Control Panel" window, double-click the "System" icon.
3. In the "System Properties" dialog box, click the "Device Manager"
tab.
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to "Sound, video, and game
controllers" and double-click "Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3".
5. Click the "Driver" tab.
6. Click the "Update Driver" button.
7. Select the "Yes (Recommended)" option button.
8. Click the "Next" button.
9. When the "Other Locations" button appears, click it.
10. Click the "Browse" button and go to the "Setup" subfolder of the
folder where you have placed the downloaded files.
Click the "OK" button.
11. Click the "Finish" button.
12. After the drivers are updated, restart the system.
13. Proceed to section 5, "How to upgrade Creative PC-DVD Encore
Dxr3 software."
3. How to install the drivers in Windows 98
-----------------------------------------
To install the drivers in Windows 98:
1. Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. In the "Control Panel" window, double-click the "System" icon.
3. In the "System Properties" dialog box, click the "Device
Manager" tab.
4. Click the plus (+) sign next to "Sound, video, and game
controllers" and double-click "Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3".
5. Click the "Driver" tab.
6. In the "Driver" dialog box, click the "Update Drivers" button.
7. In the "Update Device Driver Wizard" dialog box, click the
"Next" button.
8. Select the option "Display a list of all the drivers in a
specific location, so you can select the driver you want".
9. Click the "Next" button.
10. Click the "Have Disk" button.
11. In the "Install From Disk" dialog box, browse to the folder
\DRIVERS\WIN9x.
12. In the "Open" dialog box, select "ctdvdenc.inf" and click the
"OK" button.
13. In the "Install From Disk" dialog box, click the "OK" button.
14. In the "Select Device" dialog box, make sure that the device
Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 is selected and click the "OK" button.
The new drivers are copied to your system.
15. Click the "Finish" button and restart your system.
16. Proceed to section 5, "How to upgrade Creative PC-DVD Encore
Dxr3 software."
4. How to install the drivers in Windows NT 4.0
----------------------------------------------
To install the drivers in Windows NT 4.0:
1. Browse to the folder \DRIVERS\WINNT40 and run NT40DRV.EXE.
2. Restart your system.
If your current package does not contain the Windows NT 4.0
drivers, and if you have not yet installed your card, then
you must perform the first installation on a Windows 9x
platform. If you do not have a Windows 9x platform, you will
not be able to perform the installation.
Windows NT 4.0 Symmetric Multiple Processing (SMP) is not
supported in this release.
5. How to upgrade Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 software
----------------------------------------------------
To install the Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 software in Windows 95/98
and Windows NT 4.0:
1. Browse to the folder \APPL and run SETUP.EXE.
The setup program runs and Creative PC-DVD Encore Dxr3 software
will be installed.
2. If you have previously installed the Creative PC-DVD Encore
Dxr3 software, the message box "An older version of the software
package has been installed in the system. It is advisable to
uninstall it first before running this setup" will appear.
If this happens, click the "Yes" button to uninstall the
previous version and continue with the installation.
3. Restart your system.
