  4. PROGRAM SUMMARY:
  5.  
  6.     This program searches for and verifies the Ultra ATA/66 capability of 
  7.     specific Western Digital hard drives. If the drive is Ultra ATA/66 capable 
  8.     you can enable or disable this feature with this utility.

  12. TO RUN THE PROGRAM:
  13.  
  14.     BACK UP DATA:
  15.     Before running the program, it is recommended that users back up all data
  16.     for all hard drives. The WDATA66 test does not overwrite any data on the
  17.     drives and if used properly should not result in data loss, but the regular
  18.     backing up of data is always recommended.

  20.     STORE THE PROGRAM ON FLOPPY DRIVE:
  21.     The program must be run from a floppy drive, so copy the file WDDIAG.EXE
  22.     to a formatted bootable floppy diskette in A:.

  26.     ENABLING ULTRA ATA/66 CAPABILITY: 
  27.     All of the following conditions must be met before your system will be
  28.     able to utilize Ultra ATA/66:
  29.        1.  Your host system must support Ultra ATA/66 (Motherboard chipset, 
  30.         BIOS or add in Controller Card).
  31.     2.  A 40 Pin, 80 conductor cable must be attached between the host
  32.              system and the hard drive.
  33.     3.  Your operating must be enabled for DMA transfers
  34.     4.  Your hard drive must support Ultra ATA/66 and this capability must 
  35.         be enabled.

  37.     START THE PROGRAM:
  38.     To start the program, type WDATA66 at the DOS prompt, A:\WDATA66.
  39.    
  40.     SELECT A DRIVE: 
  41.     You can 'Select a Drive' by using the up/down arrow keys to highlight
  42.     a specific drive.  The utility will tell you if the drives detected are
  43.     'capable' of Ultra ATA/66 and if that feature is 'enabled'.  Hit enter to
  44.     select a drive and then type <y> to enable or disable the feature on 
  45.     supported drives.

  47.     The WDATA66 utility will support and recognize up to 8 hard drives.
  48.  
  49.     Enabling or disabling this feature on a selected drive can take up to 
  50.     30 seconds.  When the changes have been performed,  the 'enabled' status
  51.     message will change from "yes" to "no" or vice versa. You can select another
  52.     drive or hit <F10> to exit the utility.
  53.  
  54.     COMMAND LINE SWITCHES:
  55.     The following switches are available for use in an automated type setting. It
  56.     is recommended that these switches only be used in an automated manner, as
  57.     manually executing the program will help to verify that the proper drive is 
  58.     being selected for the enable or disable.

  63.                       Where X is the drive number starting at zero (0-7)

  65.     wdata66 /dX /o    To disable Ultra ATA66 on a selected drive
  66.                       Where X is the drive number starting at zero (0-7)

  68.     NOTE:
  69.     In order for the changes to take effect you must cycle power on your computer.
  70.     A <ctrl - alt - del> or warm boot/reset WILL NOT make the changes effective.
  71.     To cycle power,  turn off your computer,  wait 30 seconds and then power up.
