  57. This README file contains the installation procedure and usage 
  58. information for the Intel740(tm) graphics accelerator Windows* NT 4.0 
  59. production software. The software and hardware requirements for this 
  60. release are as follows:
  61.

  85. The Intel740(tm) graphics accelerator is optimized to run with the 
  86. following PC configurations: 
  87. (1) Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R)II processors. 
  88. (2) Motherboard: Based on the Intel(R) 440LX, 440BX, 440GX AGPset
  89.     or a later generation Intel AGPset, motherboard must have an 
  90.     unpopulated AGP slot or the Intel740 chip must be down on the 
  91.     motherboard.
  92. (3) Operating System: Windows* 95 OSR 2.1 or later (with USB 
  93.     Supplement), Windows* 98, or Windows* NT 4.0 SP3 or later  
  94.     Peripherals: A CD-ROM drive to install software and drivers 
  95. (4) To support fully optimized AGP configuration, 32MB of system 
  96.     memory is recommended.

  109.      (1) Supports all 2D and 3D (OpenGL*) operations.
  110.      (2) The PV1.0 drivers do not function in a multiprocessor 
  111. environment.  This includes a system with two or more processors or a 
  112. uniprocessor system that runs with a multiprocessor, NT 4.0 kernel.  
  113. Intel plans on fixing this issue in a future driver release.

  128. (4) TV-Out anomalies- 
  129.     a. Using keyboard to set TV-Out position (in properties sheet)may 
  130. cause keyboard lockout when maximum/minimum position is reached 
  131. requiring reboot.
  132.     b. Left half of screen may momentarily flash black during a mode 
  133. change.
  134.     c. With TV-Out enabled and the desktop set at 800x600 resolution, 
  135. the entire desktop will not fit in the monitor screen.  The left and 
  136. right sides are cut off.
  137.     d. Enabling and disabling TV-Out quickly many times can sometimes 
  138. cause system to lock up.  Re-boot is required.
  139.     e. Monitor screen may blank out or screen corruption may be 
  140. visible if running DOS (not Windows or DDraw) games that use ModeX.
  141.     f. When booting up your system for the first time, an occasional 
  142. split screen (two images) may appear on the TV screen. If this occurs, 
  143. the system will need to be reset. The anomaly occurs more often in PAL 
  144. mode. This anomaly has been seen when using the Intel740(tm) drivers 
  145. (all versions) in combination with the Rockwell* BT868/869, Revision 
  146. "C" TV-Out Encoder Component. The above anomaly has not been seen when 
  147. using the Rockwell* BT868/869, Revision "D or E" components in 
  148. combination with the Intel740(tm) drivers.
  149.     g. In an NT MP (multi-processor) environment, Windows* NT 4.0 
  150. service pack 4 is required to use TV-Out.
  151.  
  152. (6) Video anomalies- you may see some of the following when using 
  153. video:
  154.     a. 1600x1200 resolution is not supported for Video for Windows.
  155.     b. In icon size video format, a dark band at the video window 
  156. bottom may be seen in PAL mode.
  157.     c. In vidcap application, changing from preview mode in icon video 
  158. format to overlay mode in full video format may cause a band to scroll 
  159. screen.
  160.     d. Capturing an .avi file without selecting the Indeo 4.4 codec 
  161. from the compression menu will result in low visual quality.
  162.     e. When video window is shown in a smaller window, the video may 
  163. be zoomed in on.
  164.     f. In an NT MP (multi-processor) environment, Windows* NT 4.0 
  165. service pack 4 is required to use video.
  166.     g. There is a conflict between the Adobe* Premiere video capture 
  167. application and the PV2.0 Intel740(tm) drivers.  For proper operation 
  168. of this application, load Adobe Premiere after loading the Intel740 
  169. PV2.0 drivers.
  170. (7) TV tuner support with Hauppauge TV tuner has been added.

  176. (1) Same as 2.0 except with item (3) VFW-video capture features have been removed.
  177. (2) Drivers are now upgradeable to Windows* NT 5.0.
  178. (3) Intel tested for PC98 WHQL compliance.
  179. (4) A Digital Signature Feature has been added to the gfxw.inf file to satisfy 
  180.     Microsoft* WHQL Certification requirements.

  182.     **Important: The Digital Signature feature within the gfxw.inf file has been 
  183.                  commented out. For WHQL Submission those commented lines must be 
  184.                  uncommented to reflect the respective IHV's information.

  195. 3.0  Intel740(tm) Driver Installation Procedure  
  196. **********************************************************************

  199.  General Installation Notes
  200. ----------------------------
  201. ** The operating system must be installed on the system prior to 
  202. installation.
  203.  
  204. ** This installation procedure is specific only to the version of 
  205. driver and installation file included in this release.
  206.  
  207. ** The ".INF" file is the installation file and includes all of the 
  208. driver and Graphics Properties page files associated with this 
  209. release.
  210.  
  211. ** This procedure assumes that all of the software associated with  
  212. this release is located in the same directory.
  213.  
  214. ------------------------
  215.  Installing the Drivers
  216. ------------------------
  217. (1) Before installing the Intel740(tm) graphics accelerator drivers, 
  218. first make sure that the Windows* NT default VGA graphics adapter 
  219. drivers are currently installed. To do this, click on "My Computer" 
  220. and then "Control Panel". In the "Control Panel" window, click on 
  221. "Display". In the "Display Properties" window, click on the "Settings 
  222. tab. Click the "Display Type" button and if the VGA graphics adapter 
  223. is the current graphics adapter, go to step 2 below, otherwise click 
  224. "Change".
  225.  
  226. In the "Change Display" window, highlight the "Standard Display Types" 
  227. under the Manufacturers column and then highlight the "VGA Compatible 
  228. Display Adapter" under the Display column. Click "OK". After the 
  229. drivers have been successfully installed, click "OK" in the 
  230. "Installing Driver" Window. Click the close button in the "Display 
  231. Type" window and then again click "Close" in the "Display Properties" 
  232. window. Restart the computer when the prompted to do so.
  233.  
  234. After rebooting, the "Invalid Display Settings" window will appear. 
  235. Press "OK" and change the resolution settings, if desired. If you 
  236. choose to change the resolution and/or color depth settings, follow 
  237. the instructions on the screen.
  238.  
  239. (2) After Windows* NT 4.0 has loaded, click on "My Computer" icon, 
  240. "Control Panel" icon, and then the "Display" icon.
  241.  
  242. (3) You should now be in the "Display Properties" window. Select the 
  243. "Settings" tab, and click on the "Display Type" button.
  244.  
  245. (4)"Display Type" window, click the "Change..." button.
  246.  
  247. (5) From the new window, click on the "Have Disk" button.
  248.  
  249. (6) You should now be in the "Install From Disk" window. In the "Copy 
  250. manufactures files from:" box, place the CD-ROM in the proper drive 
  251. and click the "Browse..." button.  The drivers are located in the 
  252. "\WinNT" directory of the CD-ROM.  When the correct directory is 
  253. chosen, click "OK" to continue the installation.
  254.  
  255. (7) A window should pop up stating that the " Intel740(tm) Video 
  256. Accelerator" drivers are about to be installed. Click the "OK" button 
  257. to accept the display driver change, and then click the "Yes" button 
  258. in the "Third Party Drivers" window as well as the "OK" button in the 
  259. "Installing Driver" window. Click "Close" on the "Display Properties" 
  260. window to complete the installation. Restart the computer when 
  261. prompted to do so.
  262.  
  263. After rebooting, the "Invalid Display Settings" window will appear. 
  264. Press "OK" and change the resolution settings, if desired. If you 
  265. choose to change the resolution and/or color depth settings, follow 
  266. the instructions on the screen.

  268. (8) The drivers should now be loaded.  To determine if the drivers 
  269. have been loaded correctly, refer to the "Verifying Installation" 
  270. section, below.

  273.  Verifying Driver Installation
  274. -------------------------------
  275. From the Windows* NT desktop, click on "My Computer" then "Control 
  276. Panel" then "Devices".  In the "Devices" window, under the "Device" 
  277. column the driver associated with the display adapter should read: 
  278. "gfx40" and the "Status" column next to the driver should read 
  279. "Started".  If this is not the case, the drivers will need to be re-
  280. installed.
