  1.   **** Welcome to "SURF THE REGISTRY" Version 1.01 ****

  3. PROGRAM FEATURES:
  4.  
  5. We have made every effort to make the Registry Surfer simple to
  6. use. You should be able to begin Surfing the Registry without
  7. even reading these instructions.
  8.  
  9. To get the most out of the product you should be aware of the 
  10. following features:
  11.  
  12. 1. SECTION: The "SECTION" block on the main form allows
  13. you to limit the registry search to a particular major
  14. section (or any combination of sections) of the registry. 
  15.  
  16. 2. MODE: The Registry Surfer can run in two modes:
  17.  
  18.     2.1. AUTOSTOP: In AUTOSTOP mode, the Registry
  19.     Surfer will pause after each "hit" of the string
  20.     you are searching for.
  21.  
  22.     2.2. CONTINUOUS: In CONTINUOUS mode, the Surfer
  23.     will display each "hit" and continue searching
  24.     automatically.
  25.  
  26. 3. SEARCH: The Registry Surfer will search any combination
  27. of Key Names, Value Names, and Value Data for the search
  28. argument you specify.
  29.  
  30. 4. SEARCH FOR: This is where you specify the value you
  31. are searching for. The Registry Surfer requires at least
  32. one non-blank character to look for. The drop-down list
  33. will display the last 10 values you searched for.
  34.  
  35. 5. OPTIONS:
  36.  
  37.     5.1. FIND WHOLE WORD ONLY: If this option is
  38.     checked, the string must be surrounded by
  39.     spaces, single-quotes, double-quotes, or
  40.     backslash (\) to be considered a hit. 
  41.  
  42.     5.2. MATCH CASE: If this option is checked,
  43.     a case-sensitive search is performed.
  44.  
  45.     5.3. MINIMIZE WHILE SURFING: If this option
  46.     is checked, the Registry Surfer will iconize
  47.     itself while searching. When the search is done,
  48.     the results window will automatically expand to
  49.     normal size. The Registry Surfer runs two to
  50.     three times faster when minimized.
  51.  
  52. While the search is in progress, the results window will
  53. display the following information.
  54.  
  55. 1. AUTO-STOP and RUN-MINIMIZED check boxes. These will
  56. reflect the options selected on the main window. You
  57. are free to change these options any time you wish, even
  58. when the Registry Surfer is "in-flight". 
  59.  
  60. 2. SEARCHING FOR: This window reflects the string we are
  61. currently looking for. The large window displays the
  62. fully qualified registry key currently being scanned.
  63.  
  64. 3. E.T.: The running elapsed time of the search.
  65.  
  66. 4. PAUSE/FIND NEXT: The Registry Surfer may be paused at
  67. any time during a search. You can browse or print the
  68. results, change options, etc.
  69.  
  70. 5. PRINT: This button will produce a landscape printout
  71. of the results window.
  72.  
  73. 6. RESULTS WINDOW: The registry locations where the
  74. search string was located are presented here in scrollable 
  75. tree-view form.
  76.  
  77. 7. PROGRESS BAR: The progress bar at the bottom of the 
  78. results window contains a rough graphical display of the
  79. search progress.

  82. TO INSTALL AND START:
  83.  
  84. 1. Unzip the downloaded file into any directory you wish.
  85.    Run SETUP.EXE to install the Registry Surfer.
  86.  
  87. 2. From File Manager or Windows Explorer double-click on
  88.             REGSURF.EXE 
  89.  
  90.  
  91. NOTES:
  92.  
  93. 1. This software may be given to your friends and co-workers and may 
  94.    be freely distributed on any CD, BBS, WEB page, etc. without 
  95.    requesting the consent of the authors. Thanks for your interest 
  96.    in The Registry Surfer.

  98. 2. This shareware version of the Registry Surfer is
  99.    free for 20 executions or 30 days. After that, if you
  100.    find the program useful and want to make it a permanent part
  101.    of your computer system, you should register for $28. Your
  102.    registration fee will help support ongoing shareware
  103.    development efforts.

  127. SOURCE CODE ($49):

  129. 1. The complete Registry Surfer VB4 source is available for
  130.    $49. This, of course, includes the Registration Key for the
  131.    program. The Registry Surfer uses absolutely no third
  132.    party controls or .DLL's so, if you have VB4, you are free
  133.    to load the project into the VB4 IDE and use the source code
  134.    any way you wish.

  136.    If you are a VB developer, The Registry Surfer source
  137.    is heavily commented and easy to follow. It will provide you
  138.    with good examples of most of the Registry API calls as well
  139.    as working examples of function recursion within VB.

  141.    To have the VB4 source included with your order, just indicate
  142.    "INCLUDE SOURCE CODE" when you order.
